... expert sniper in all games, Well I did play approx 3 rounds now with Sniper and various other weapons, It is suggested that you crouch or dont move while you shoot, also added to that your performance with specific weapons improves with skill points placed to.. one you unlock after IV level on handling. |

I haven't had too much time in as a sniper since 2.0 came about so it might have changed (this new map seems terribad for sniping so far but I've only played a couple of rounds). Previously if you crouched and then gave it a second or two it would settle down. After that it'd be pretty smooth outside of shot recoil. I was almost to the point of unlocking the proficiency skill before the wipe but that was supposed to make the sway lessen even more.

I may be just whiny, but as someone who isn't super proficient at console shooters I agree that sniping seems to be a bit more difficult than it should be. I quickly found that crouching and staying still helped shake, as it should, but things are still a bit unbalanced past that.
Part if it is it seems that aiming is a bit more 'hoppy' than it could be, particularly when scoped. I feel like there should be a larger precision movement area around the center of the stick than there is, and that while scoped you should only turn quickly if you push the stick near the edge. I feel like other games handle this better, though to be honest that could be a lack of skill on my part, i'm just not sure.
Another issue is that it seems that the base zoom distance should either be higher, or the base range (or accuracy, or zoom) on assault rifles should be lower, as often those with assault rifles can quickly pick me off at range while I'm trying to line up my shot. It seems like there should be more of a range divide, such that they have to take cover or get a bit closer before being at a reasonable engagement range. I'm sure that to an extent this is a skill issue on my end, but even taking that into account it seems to be a balance issue.
Another bit that probably contributes to this is that as far as I can tell, after you've fired a few shots close to someone auto-aim kicks in, giving giving higher rate-of-fire weapons (like the assault rifle, again) an advantage at range, since the sniper has to line up their shot much better than the assault rifle user, which seems a bit broken at longer ranges.
Maybe I'm just whiny though, hard to say.

Actually I have had a great time sniping on the new map. Run up either side and in behind the buildings, get up on the ledge and work you way round the ledge to front, drop down on to the pipes and run forward. From there I snipe, jump down to take objectives, or if the objective is taken just toss down some remote explosives to crish the hopes and dreams of the next enemy trying to take the objective. |

i like it . no 360 no scope headshots in this game . no sniping while running, pretty much no sniping while walking its like your actually trying to use a real rifle where shooting at a target 200 yeards away requires concentration , effort, and skill. and before anyone complains . i have done my share of sniping with this build and i still like it, its on my list of things to max out and get the proto 2 play with |

Sniping is fine I think, but I do agree with the scope issue. It's ridiculous that our scopes only cover ~50% of our max range. Maybe add a second zoom as is common in other shooters?
Oftentimes I'll take my SMG into close quarters and then just snipe from behind a pillar, been working great lately. |

what setting do you guys use for your sensitivity. Here is an idea why not make the sensitivity controllable while zoomed in. The way this would work is you press the grenade bumper key, the further you press it in the less sensitive the movement it allowing you to be as precise as you need to. what do you guys think ? |

I'm sitting around 60-65 on sensitivity.
If you can send a round into every firefight you see... even with no kills you'll find yourself with 20-30k in assists alone.
Weaponry 5 + Sniper 5 help a lot in transitioning from Assists to outright kills as well.
Hit detection is MUCH better now than it was, but I'm finding unlabeled foes/friends to be more of an impediment. |

I'm sorry, to all the people who say that sniping is fine the way it is, I suggest they go pick up any of Tom Clancey's shooters and turn off all the aim assists. THAT's the type of precision movement we should have on our gun control. I can easilly aim and hit a target in that game, and it has **** to do with aim assist, the controls are just better, they offer much better variable sensitivity on the controller.
Of course pardon me for a second on this particular rant, because honestly it may be the controllers or the consoles to... I have yet to confirm this by playing enough PS3 games to be sure, but I was told there was a sensitivity dead zone on most PS3 controllers that was caused by the actual programming, if this is the case, then CCP is working with what they were given. Unfortunately i hope this isn't the case, because there are certainly games that have gotten aim sensitivity WAY WAY WAY better then this game. And no once again, it is not just you sucking, don't believe the hype, its BS. |

Sniping in Dust 514 is far more stationary than in many other games. Moving while aiming and quickscoping are pretty much no go. Another thing to note in sniping is that the map design often forces snipers to seek for a higher ground or alternatively stick to more open areas. If I am on the ground level my aiming gets constantly interrupted as there are just so many things blocking the view, including player tanks.
If you are looking for quick scoping, i'd recommend checking out the tactical assault rifles. They are generally easier to use while moving and with decent gun, skills, and gear you'll might not 2 shot players but the higher rate of fire allows you to pull for more hits than normal sniper rifle. |

F0nx wrote:cant hit a god damn thing, and trust me im an expert sniper in any game, can somebody explain to me the system they're using ? we have drop suits but cant hold my rifle steady ? really WTF Based on when this was posted, I am guessing you are on the 2.0 build... So if you are having that much trouble then, no you are not an expert sniper in any game. I am a seriously craptastic player and I am still sniping and killing targets out to 200 meters. My K/D rate would make many people cry and I still manage to snipe people out of LAVs and Dropships or snipe them while they try to take an objective.
I have my sensitivity set to 85, level 1 Sniping skill and I can still get the occasional 1HK versus heavy suits using the Charge Sniper rifle.

Once you aim down the sight for a certain length of time, the sway almost completely goes away. I prefered using the Charge Sniper Rifle - it seemed to be the only one with 1-hit kill capabilities for most classes.
The reason sniping is hard in most fps games is that there is almost no reason to choose a sniper rifle over an assault rifle.
Most fire fights in video games occur within the effective range of assault rifles, leaving snipers vulnerable. Assault rifle users can fight at almost any range, unlike snipers. At distances beyond those of an AR (I did notice the limited range of ARs in dust) it's usually very hard to hit an opponent with a sniper rifle anyway.
Some players were using dropships to get onto the buildings, then placed a spawn beacon there.
I had quite a bit of fun spawning up there and picking people off, though we were still vulnerable to attack from assault rifles below and from dropships above. |

I think you need to be able to walk the target. Right now your stick moves at a certain distance, at a greater rate of speed. IOW the dead spot on the stick is too large. You should be able to slightly push the button, and get slight movement on the site. Right now you go from no movement to too much movement with too large a dead spot in between the points, once they fix this i think Sniping will be more realistic, but as it stands you can still kill things from a large distant but a little more luck is involved. |

In most other games i can make small adjustments to my targeting by moving my charactger left to right, but this makes the sway kick in again, its a pain in the ass because the right stick isnt precise enough when you need it too (long range counter sniping), but all in all once you get used to the idea that you dont have to run around and mix it up in qq you can really do some damage on the field, I'm even getting the hang of quick scope shots (if you do it fast enough your recticle usually is on target and than sways. Aagain the sniper proficiency skill goes a long way. |

Hate to point this out, but in my quote I said:
Quote: and turn off all the aim assists.
The point was, and I thought this would be clear to anyone who actually read the post, that other games have better sensitivity control, and better handling and ALLOW players to demonstrate superior skill and strategy rather then learning to play with clunky controls and fighting the mechanics... Did I say it couldn't be done? No anyone who spends enough time grinding away with ANY control set can eventually master it, but that doesn't mean all control sets are made equal, and this all applies regardless of aim assist, I dont support aim assist in fact. Just good quality sensitivity control that allows the player to focus more on the game, and less on compensating for crap controls. |
