This just in:
- there are no guided missiles on tanks. - ships warp through planets - ships do not continue moving in the same direction after thrust is applied in a different direction. - clone jumping does not utterly destroy your mind. - clones "beam down" magically to planets through links and CRUs. - peanut butter can not, in fact, play record albums.

I'm not going to get angry at CCP for not making their weapon descriptions 100% accurate to the weapon itself.
So, folks at CCP or fellow nerds on the forums, please answer these 3 questions:
- How much mass would each 'beehive' sniper round have? Better yet how much would each round way in kilograms, that would be easier.
- Is there a range difference for the Charge variant and the Officer variants comparable to the difference of the Tactical and Regular versions? (I've learned that its really easy to hunt Tactical Snipers with Regular Snipers because of that range difference)
- Is the headshot bonus 3x damage?
[I can guess its at least three times as much because with a regular unmodified sniper rifle, it takes about 3 body shots to kill a Min or Cal starter fit, 4 for Gal and Amarr. Getting one head shot will kill a Min or Cal starter fit, but will almost kill a Gal or Amarr. I assume thats because they have more armor, cause shooting them in the head leaves them with only a sliver of health.

I used to be a hell of a sniper, but now with a broken controller, and the average EHP of a suit exceeding 400 I can only make about 10 kills a match with one.
I use the logi because I can carry lots of hives with it. Whenever I deploy hives after filling up my ammo I throw a bunch of grenades to use it up. Can't give my position away y'know.

The sniper hits in this game ARE instataneous without any delay.
But, the delay you are seeing is - the internet latency. Hence it might take some time for hit to register.

i used to snipe in gal and cal logi suits, but then they nerfed damage mods, and keep buffing everything else. farthest in Uprising for me was 600.12m. a lot of us are saddened by how snipers are. a lot of OG snipers spec'd out of the weapon a while back and went into other things. that's kinda why the few of us dedicated snipers (even if we don't play the game anymore) are the only reasonable voices left to fight for balance tweaks. other guys don't visit the forums or quit the game. definately could use buffs (base damage and range imo) but not without some map changes (redline distance).

The people who own CCP don't want certain roles in the game and nerfed those roles to oblivion. They're only kept in the game for cosmetic appeal. A good sniper is supposed to be almost undetectable, probably only makes one or two kills at most and should receive huge payouts for such kills, to compare with the sort of payouts people with opportunity to make many more kills than they can. By making the redline so small and nerfing the range of the SR to something like <500m (totally ridiculous) the SR is now more a close range single shot rifle. The sniper role has all but disappeared.
P.S. I also only snipe in a scout suit (Hawk) modified with a SR, but still with the cloak and profile dampeners so I can still act as a scout as well. |

Sniper subclass fits tho...mmmm...I kind of want to...maybe...make stats for something like that...hmm.... No, the range is ridiculous. Anything that travels 2.5km/s (that's 2.5 kilometres per second...) doesn't "dissipate" within a few seconds, that's at least 5km (not 500m!!) and yes it eventually "slows down" but it only stops when it follows a trajectory to hit something. The idea that this could be anything like 500m is just ridiculous. |

To answer your questions OP:
1) The mass of the projectile would depend on the density of the material used to make the projectile...now it is a rail projectile so we know that it needs to be conductive, have a conductive outer shell, or have a conductive sabot. It would also depend on what they mean when they say "beehive," as this could mean multiple projectiles that separate from a main shell (like a shotgun...or an airbursting round), it could mean that it has a beehive like structure to minimize mass (Why?), or it could mean that it is a fragmentation round that sends shrapnel is several directions after impacting/penetrating a target or target area.
2) The Variant Ranges are as follows:
Tactical Variants (excluding 'Balac's"): 350m Range
Charge Sniper Rifles (Including 'Symb's') and Balac's Sniper Rifle : 400m Range
Vanilla Sniper Rifles (Including 'Thale's'): 450m Range
3) The Headshot Multipliers are as follows:
Tactical Variants: 2x
Charge Sniper Rifles (Including 'Symb's'): 3.5x
Vanilla Sniper Rifles (Including 'Thale's'): 3x
I think the Balac's might also have the 3.5x multiplier, but I accidentally deleted the video I had with it

Well...this is not entirely true, just the ship's "Max Velocity" is apparently the sum of all vectors the ship is on. I believe the only technobabble I've heard on the velocity thing being a side-effect of warp drive technology, exchange sublight velocity for the ability to go FTL...seems like a good trade.

"Spawn Beacons" are actually miniaturized versions of these: Cynosural Field Generator. The Warbarge locks a wormhole generator onto the selected Cyno Field, and your next clone steps through...radiation of the process takes that combat clone's lifespan from a month or so (since that dropsuit isn't exactly safe for use) to maybe a week at best...but who cares, its lifespan in most battles is measured in seconds.
As for CRUs...as far as I know, they have a number of clones stored inside of them, plus the necessary systems to allow for the clone-jump
Khanid Logi and Tanker, sometimes AV Heavy or Sniper.

I like sniping in a commando suit because if I'm in my spot and can't find any targets because the flow of battle morphed elsewhere, I can just get off my duff, switch to my AR or whatever and join the fray without needing to swap my suit first... |

Fine, call them marksman rifles or whatever tickles your fancy...
I don't know who all these people are who want some huge range/damage buff that will encourage folks to move even farther behind the redline... You'd need a perfect connection to even get your shot to register on a moving target, and once you get past 500-550m, things in your scope are going to look really "skippy"...Personally, I'd rather have an adjustable scope (or at least some better crosshairs)
For all this talk about math and physics, we should be damned glad sniper shots are instant, linear and predictable; instead of how much more of a PITA it would be if we had to compensate for bullet drop...

By the way speed of sound is 340 meters per second so a dust514 sniper rifle has the velocity of mach 7.35 at the end of the barrel of the rifle so for a si fi sniper rifle the range of 450 meters is pathetic.

Unfortunately if it were like that, they would be op. I've made all of these arguments myself. The way the sniper rifle (snipper riffle) is implemented in this game is a joke.
wouldn't be OP. would be balanced. every other FPS out there, as we've said time again, is balanced around infantry with 100 HP or some variation of it. chest shot takes you down to 25 HP or OHK with proper perks in some games, and head shots mean death. This game, however, doesn't work off of a 100 HP pool. it has various suits of various sizes and starting HP pools. With the current mechanics, head shot multiplier damage effectively does reflect that, but body shot damage doesn't. Take Symbs' feedback into consideration on how it's supposed to be from one of our previous sniper feedback threads and that's how it should be. It looks exactly like how Lightning has it laid out except for a +1 more shot if the person is brick tanking and most people brick tank. you work from the highest HP pool to the lowest. like i said, people have it easy in DUST, yet they cry like it's something new - a new concept they've never heard of cause they wanna hide behind their tanked out suit. play an actual competitive shooter and you will see that that's how sniper rifles are really balanced. why? cause they can't defend themselves up close unless they swap to their sidearm or support tools like C4/Proxies. all it takes is one shot to change the battle. multiple head shots if the sniper's good. go check out DarkBetrayed, MongolFPS, or SgtEnigma's sniper montages and you will see.

So its a expensive candy corn shooter. I'm pretty sure since there's no actual fire or explosive involved in a railgun and just fletchettes,I'm pretty sure it can hold up for a little more than just 450m.
