We're not talking about suits. We're talking mentality. You brought up logi suits as an example of not trying hard. I'm saying you can be an assault and be casual. Running an assault does not make you a tryhard. Likewise, running a logi doesnt mean you aren't. It's a matter of priority of focus on the gameplay.
The tryhard mentality is great for competitive play like the competitions CCP holds with EVE. Tryhard is expected in a game mode like PC. I find it surprising in DUST FW considering that FW in EVE was made for new players that can't run better stuff and need a mode to jump right into a situation that provides ready made fights.
I'd like to see FW be that in DUST with restrictions to gear or the matchmaking algorithms and therefore pubs could be the free for all arena brawl. PC is the competitive mode. Everyone involved is there for the push, push, push quick win progression.
Then of course there could be brackets for FW based on gear tier. Like EVE FW, you have sites that allow a certain type of ship. These scale up.

I have been an advocate of this for a long time. Dust players should choose where they fight in FW based on where fights in EVE are happening in FW.

I also have no clue how trying hard ruins the concept of video games. They're supposed to be fun. I have fun when I'm giving it my all. I do occasionally enjoy playing a more relaxed style, but as a competitive person at heart, I like to win.

I believe he may be referring to those who pull proto or officer gear out only when there's only 8 people left on the other side because the rest of the enemy team all quit, or when your team is obviously superior and the other team is getting rekt already. In an even, balanced match or when your team is losing and you are trying to fight back I don't see an issue with it. But when it's used for beating on an already dead team, it's a seriously wrong thing to do.
That said, I run almost exclusively proto because for some reason the mu almost always puts me up against proto/officer squads. The reason I run it is to support my team because typically I see no other proto on my side. When I don't see proto or officer on the other side I'll either run my Adv Minmando with a PLC and Acr or my Apex Minassault with an Exile and Syndicate typically. When I end up in an ambush where the other team only has 3-5 people I'll throw on a proto suit and suicide into them to be sure they get their SP for the match and if they don't manage it I've been known to send them 1-3Mil just to make sure they aren't going to be that guy who decides to rage quit and delete the whole game that match.
I've been doing my part for helping the other team to have a chance and for new players to hopefully stick around for a long time now because unlike many of us who've been here a long time, I haven't forgotten how hard things can be. (not saying that's you, just saying in general about the playerbase) Proto/Officer gear is a part of it, but so are core skills, adaptability available to us due to high SP, necessary modules for different tanking methods, weapon variety for range and DPS options, ISK availability, map familiarity, etc., etc., etc. It's easy to say they need to adapt and grind it out but things have never been so bad for new players than it is now and it will only get worse as more people continue to gain the advantages mentioned above.
