Do not expect good grammar well constructed sentences or nice words in this thread. I'm about done with this BS and the reason is because Swarms, Rail Gun Turrets, and Forge Guns. They are OP against ADS and I can't even do anything about it. I'm about to quit this game because I decided to respec into ADS.
I'm going to tell you a story, a story of a high school sophmore whose over protective parents don't like the blood and violence in this game that there was while I was nova knifing. So I decided to take the high road and buy a respec into Assault Dropships, inspired by one of saxonmish's recent videos.
It was a giant mistake. First match literally 5 minutes after I made my first Assault Dropship. My fitting was: Python, 1 Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender, 1 Complex Shield Hardener, 1 Complex (Enhanced? I forgot) Light shield booster, a Complex PG mod and XT-1 Missile Launcher. Every one of my vehicle skills is MAXED out.
I have never ADS'ed before and have never skilled into a vehicle and I can tell you they are under powered.
I was in my first match ever in an ADS when as soon as I entered the first real enemy engagement I swooped in only to have a Swarmer, a pro forger, and a OFFICER FORGER immedietely instakill me. This was way in the beginning of the match when the enemy doesn't even know what to expect and they're already in full AV suits? Don't give me any of that "ADS's are OP, Swarms should be buffed" ****. I used a total of 10 Pythons that battle constantly trying to be useful to my team. You know what happened? I got a grand total of 0 kills, 10 deaths (pilot goes down with the ship logic) and 200 points from uplink team spawns. I thought to myself "Maybe I'm just having a bad match and coincedently got put in a battle with a guy who wanted to brandish an officer forge for fun." And so I searched for the next battle, hoping for something better. I was wrong.
Bridge map, go on the enemy side. Instablooped in a matter of seconds WITH my hardener on and my shield booster having been activated. You know why? 3 RAILGUN tanks, another GOD DAMN FORGER, and to top it off, a Caldari Assault CK.0 with (wait for it)...... a BEACON'S SWARM LAUNCHER.
I've lost a total of 20 mil in two matches. Let me emphasize that. TWO MATCHES. And I got 1 kill on a frontline suit in a blaster turret.
I need help ADSing, I'm almost destroyed my headphones and my PS3 controller and I'm about to get ready to rage quit this game.
Any suggestions? Tips? Git gud comments? Inevitable "Bucket of tears" trolls? I need a few. experienced ADS pilots to help me get good at this.
One last thing. AV needs to be nerfed to the ground. Swarms are way to effective, I got killed by a railgun tank while 500 meters above ground (on bridge map) and was blapped by a forge at that same distance (about.)
TL;DR: First time flying an ADS not good. AV OP. Nerf AV. Need help with piloting.

Sometimes you just know when something is ******. Swarms are ******. The simple fact is they are no fun to fight against. It's just run run run unless you double harden and even then, running is STILL the preferred tactic as if you don't immediately land the kill you will still likely go up in flames to yet another swarmer or AV on your way out.
Any weapon that auto tracks for over half of the map, dips around buildings, is generally glitchy and can be swapped out at one of the many supply depots, is going to be frustrating at the absolute best.
If a weapon requires very little input on the part of the operator, it should be less effective than a more skill oriented weapon such as the forge or the PLC. However, this is not the case. Swarms are THE go to AV weapon thanks to ease of use and overall effectiveness. They need to be taken down a notch, or dropships need to be brought up a notch.
Pick your poison, but they're far from balanced. |

What you invested in with SP you lack in experience. You cant just buy your way towads being a pilot.
Lesson 1: Never attack multiple AV. I have no idea why you thought taking on 2 forge guns and swarmer was a good strategy.
Lesson 2: Understand your surroundings. Check for glows indicating forgers are on thie field. Investagate high points. Understand where the redlines are and where you are relative to them. Be wary of any red supply depot. The same goes for installations.
Lesson 3: Evade, evade, evade. Never fly in a straight line, and always keep you speed up. Be ready to afterburn as soon as anything, and i do mean anything hits your ship.
Lesson 4: Listen carfeully. Swamrs hardly render, but half of the time you can hear a swarm launch. If you hear a launch, and you did not see the swamer just afterburn to the sky
Lesson 5: Pay Attention to enemy RDVs. Its always worth to flyover at a decent hieght and see what they dropped.
Lesson 6: Never engage without your hardner and afterburner ready to go. Stay in your readline roughly behind and above your MCC while they recharge.
Lesson 7: Know your enemy. You need to know what kind of AV is hitting you, whether its an Incubus, a Rail tank, A swarmer or a forge gun. Sounds obvious right? But there a massive difference in damage recieved from a kalkiotta forge and an Aldins. One can engage, the other you have to run.
Lesson 8: Kill equipment first!! The infantry you just killed will respaWn on the closest link in AV.

It's safe to assume that 2-3 Proto AV will spawn in at the very beginning of any match, if only to farm installations. There is never a point in a match against competent players that a squads worth of AV won't be roaming around somewhere. |

AV is a bit powerful, but knowing when to fly high to dodge or to when to swoop in is something that needs to be learned. Just like how I am learning how to tank. The pro tankers make it look easy (I aint talking about those p.ssy redline tanks either) and I thought I could do it too. I am still a sh.t tanker but I keep practicing, lost over 100mil so far, but I am better then I was when I first started tanking. Thats the only advice I can give.
Yeap, Jonny is right, make up a cheap fitting then practice a lot, personally I use FG against ADV and some Militia Ships Flew away from this planet xD #LOL
Seriously dude, with practice u'll be enough difficult to shoot like Usain Bold with diarrhea.

Those AV ambushes happen all the time. Thats normal.
Where you messed up was going back with a long line of Pythons trying to fight it out. Even the ground troopers think twice against charging two forge gunners in the open. And dropships are always, always in the open.
i want to say "dont just fly in." but until you have enough experience to know how to pick and choose your engagements, you will learn though lots of trial and error.
I'l give youa solid example. If I get this map, I know I am going to be engaging uplinks and troops exposed where the pipes meet the tower. They will be concentrated at a specific point, and i have time to hit them early before they are established. I f i get their uplinks frist they have to travel with AV from thier MCC. and our team has a solid foothold on the tower.
The enemy will generally be on thier side of the pipes, and may try to stick uplinks on the slant. If i keep circling the tower, i mitigate any threat from redline rails.
If i am under AV fire, i can use the tower to prevent any more locks. Also, i know that on that map the flight ceiling is abusrdly low but the flight area is very big. On that map i dont have to worry about installations, and i generally have a feel for what distances redling tanks can engage at.
Going stright up i will be well within the reach of ground or pipe AV, and my dropship will stall and eat every swarm volley. So i learned on this map to never afterburn straight up, but in the direction I am already traveling.
All of this i learned by being blown up until i got it "right"
A new pilot would just try sit on top of the pipes, get knocked by AV straight into the building. Or try to climb straight up under swarmfire, and raging like mad when swarms catchup to you when your dropship is locked into place by the flight ceiling.
Redline for Thee, but no Redline for Me.

Ignore the ignorant trolls.
But honestly, ADS are not underpowered. They are not flying death machines. They are high risk/high reward, and require a lot of actual practice to be good at. They are not meant to be flying tanks. They hit and run. If the y stick around the AV will bring them down. Rightly it should. You are essentially immune to all damage except from swarms. Not a lot of counter play there, and if the other team has weak AV or uncoordinated solo players you can essentially safely kill with impunity. The key is practice and realizing you can't shoe horn an ADS into every fight. ITs great SOME of the time, not most of the time. So my real suggestions are practice more, and have a fit that you enjoy on the ground for the 70% of the time an ADS is not very helpful. Remember vehicles are more seasoning than meat in this game. The infantry combat takes center role. |

What a coincidence. I'm also a sophomore who's parents don't like violence. So I play in the morning while they are still awake.
Now, I agree the AV is op on ships, but ads aren't bad. You have to spend time with them. I am go 22/0 with a python. You just need to know how to fit and use them.
My personal fav Python fit-
Pro missile Adv booster Adv hardener Adv light extender Adv ammo middle ammo expansion
When attacking and no signs of av, don't use your hardener, just take damage and if low on shields, boost. If there is AV, hit hardeners and make the av-ers your prime target. Don't let them take you out. Once low on shield, hit hardener. And most importantly- DONT BE AFRAID TO BACK OUT.

If it suits you. Personally, this fit is extremely effective for me. Decent shields, hardener for AV, can hit booster to stay on battle longer, and don't need to be going back to redline for more ammo.
