Do not expect good grammar well constructed sentences or nice words in this thread. I'm about done with this BS and the reason is because Swarms, Rail Gun Turrets, and Forge Guns. They are OP against ADS and I can't even do anything about it. I'm about to quit this game because I decided to respec into ADS.
I'm going to tell you a story, a story of a high school sophmore whose over protective parents don't like the blood and violence in this game that there was while I was nova knifing. So I decided to take the high road and buy a respec into Assault Dropships, inspired by one of saxonmish's recent videos.
It was a giant mistake. First match literally 5 minutes after I made my first Assault Dropship. My fitting was: Python, 1 Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender, 1 Complex Shield Hardener, 1 Complex (Enhanced? I forgot) Light shield booster, a Complex PG mod and XT-1 Missile Launcher. Every one of my vehicle skills is MAXED out.
I have never ADS'ed before and have never skilled into a vehicle and I can tell you they are under powered.
I was in my first match ever in an ADS when as soon as I entered the first real enemy engagement I swooped in only to have a Swarmer, a pro forger, and a OFFICER FORGER immedietely instakill me. This was way in the beginning of the match when the enemy doesn't even know what to expect and they're already in full AV suits? Don't give me any of that "ADS's are OP, Swarms should be buffed" ****. I used a total of 10 Pythons that battle constantly trying to be useful to my team. You know what happened? I got a grand total of 0 kills, 10 deaths (pilot goes down with the ship logic) and 200 points from uplink team spawns. I thought to myself "Maybe I'm just having a bad match and coincedently got put in a battle with a guy who wanted to brandish an officer forge for fun." And so I searched for the next battle, hoping for something better. I was wrong.
Bridge map, go on the enemy side. Instablooped in a matter of seconds WITH my hardener on and my shield booster having been activated. You know why? 3 RAILGUN tanks, another GOD DAMN FORGER, and to top it off, a Caldari Assault CK.0 with (wait for it)...... a BEACON'S SWARM LAUNCHER.
I've lost a total of 20 mil in two matches. Let me emphasize that. TWO MATCHES. And I got 1 kill on a frontline suit in a blaster turret.
I need help ADSing, I'm almost destroyed my headphones and my PS3 controller and I'm about to get ready to rage quit this game.
Any suggestions? Tips? Git gud comments? Inevitable "Bucket of tears" trolls? I need a few. experienced ADS pilots to help me get good at this.
One last thing. AV needs to be nerfed to the ground. Swarms are way to effective, I got killed by a railgun tank while 500 meters above ground (on bridge map) and was blapped by a forge at that same distance (about.)
TL;DR: First time flying an ADS not good. AV OP. Nerf AV. Need help with piloting.

Any vehicle is going to feel UP at lower skills versus max skill AV.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I don't have "lower skills." My entire vehicle command tree is maxed, as well as my missile skill (and the various sub-branches) and the ADS skill as well as the Python skill is maxed as well.

Just make a super cheap fit and practice. AV is a bit powerful, but knowing when to fly high to dodge or to when to swoop in is something that needs to be learned.
Just like how I am learning how to tank. The pro tankers make it look easy (I aint talking about those p.ssy redline tanks either) and I thought I could do it too. I am still a sh.t tanker but I keep practicing, lost over 100mil so far, but I am better then I was when I first started tanking.
Thats the only advice I can give.

Then practice maneuvering and fast in fast out in your redline.
Past that i can't speak for swarms (I don't use them) but if you deliberately engage high risk maneuvers and do NOT fly in straight lines, the third forge shot is generally a hail mary shot rather than an accurate killshot.
It requires practice.
A well fit python or incubus has a three-IAFG shot lifespan. Talk to kaeru or darth to get better advice.

Just after down time is a great time. My director has some great fits for various occasions. I consult with him on anything vehicle. Hes rolled with the punches for longer than have been tanking. I wouldnt have emerged from Uprising 1.5 a tanker without his advice.

As one of the original full time pilots, I can tell you that if you aren't relying heavily on a squad and playing the very rigid playstyle required by current ADS, you're going to have a very, very bad time.
Running is the name of the game, and if you so much as stop to shoot infantry, you will VERY likely die to swarms as you try to run away. This game is circling the drain; skilling into the hardest to master role, and least rewarding, probably isn't the best choice.
Flying can be fun, but it's mostly an exercise in frustration. The only thing more frustrating than flying is coming to the forums where the AV try-hards who've never flown will flock to tell you all their magic tips for being a god of the sky.
Welcome to the party.
Swarms are the real threat, though damage stacked railguns can still one or two shot you depending on your fit. Typically those types never leave their redline though, so if you can identify them early they're usually easy enough to avoid. The trick to defeating forge guns has always, and will always be in understanding their timings. Once you have a good feel for exactly how fast a forge gun can shoot, you can adjust your flying so that you can alter your direction at the last possible moment. The forge gunner will likely be leading you, so when you have a good feel for the speed of their projectile you can usually predict where they're aiming for, see the shot before it hits, and adjust. Forge guns are actually fun to fight against because both players have to use a lot of skill. Typically though you do NOT want to engage a forge gunner. You may very well be able to kill him with enough fancy flying and luck, but every idiot with a swarm fit is going to rush to the nearest supply depot to collect their free points. I honestly don't know how anyone plays an anti infantry Python or even Incubus in this current meta. I stick to AV all the way and even that can incur a lot of deaths if you take any risks at all.
I would love a forge gun buff if it meant giving swarms the axe. They're such a joke. |

These are your problems and your problems start by using the Python , it's a hit and run machine and the fact that you only have one low slot , doesn't leave much for the imagination .
Shields go and so will you , typical of anything Caldari and one of the reasons why I say everything that works in EVE just doesn't translate to Dust .
Borderline OP nature keeps the Dev's from being innovative because they just don't know how to distribute CPU / PG in a way as to not lead anything Caldari to being that way .
You could have all the slots in the world with all the options and if you can find a middle ground via CPU / PG , you wouldn't have to worry about anything being OP .
One of the reasons that now most roles have the same CPU / PG and to me that restricts more then creates an environment of creativity .
Shield tanks suck because of this as well as the ADS , if I were you I would start by flying Gal ADS .
Take at least a month of straight flying to figure out the little things to keep you in the air until you become more efficient .
It's not hard but it won't be easy either because you have zero experience .
Don't add on to the problem by claiming something to be OP because you see " experienced " pilots saying this , I have shot down most claiming and to show this , I will reskill into vehicles myself as to show that I'm not just talk , you need the experience so that you would know what to do in what situation and how to avoid problems .
Most people claim AV is OP because they really want to farm infantry , once you get better you will see this yourself because once you try to confront another ADS , they will run for the hills ... I see this all the time and I just don't chase , I see all these " pilots " talking about how good they are and trying to give advice but in the air , their cowards .
I use my ADS to protect my troops from vehicles and not to farm infantry .

Just remember, anyone who defends swarms is defending their simplistic way of playing. The amount of effort and skill required by them is entirely dwarfed by that which is required of you, at any and all points. Commandos even take the one disadvantage of swarms away, not being able to shoot back.
Once swarms are taken down a notch it will be a bit less of a headache to fly. Currently the free kill auto tracker is irritating at best, but given CCPs track record I wouldn't expect much in the way of change any time soon.
It would be nice if Swarms weren't the only option in the game that required no effort in order to excel. |

Vesta Opalus ( excuse the mis-spelling ) already set you straight and that's the problem with most who talk about AV vs Vehicles , their bias and the fact that they have no knowledge in AV or very little experience to not have a bias view in this regard .
How many times has weapons , mods and roles been changed because if the bias of the community and their inexperience in that said feature that their trying to change ?
How many people come to the forums to complain about items because they died and more or less expressed bias and not a willingness to compromise for balance sake ?
You don't agree with me so your point is invalid .?. is that adult .?. remember if anyone defends this you already know that their wrong .?. OP check the swarm thread in the idea section , talk to people who actually play or specialize in AV , they might know what their talking about and could give you some pointers to help you survive .
I'm not going to tell you what to do , I could only give you suggestions from my experience .
I wish Vesta was on the CPM because it seems like he doesn't have his head up his @$$ and reflects both sides of a situation , people like that are problem solvers because they put knowledge , experience and wisdom before their own wants and desires and in fact , people like that for the most part want the best outcome out of most situations because they know how to lay ego aside .

Blaze, you skilled into the most difficult role in this game to play, what did you expect?
You can not skill into something, and expect to excel with out practice.
and the loss of isk is expected, you are running multiple full, or almost full, proto ADS's.
They are far from cheap.
You just have to practice with something a bit cheaper, knock it down to ADV, or even basic, until you get the movements, and the flying right.
Start using better DSs when you are capable of doing what you wand with worse dropships.

heard of a guy called ah what's his name CARNE something, CANON something from TOXIN? Best dropship pilot there is, honestly dude with XT-1s you're doing like 600 damage per missile, that's an insta-jib, with splash damage people can't hide.
Your skills must be the problem, not skill points, actual SKILLS, you say you've only just skilled into dropships so how can you expect to beat people like me with pro AV? I will eat a 5000 armour grimsnes for lunch.
Some people can dive into buildings, hover and dive back out, some people are so ridiculously skilled they can literally fly wherever they want, through buildings, and they won't die, and when they shoot? They do NOT miss.
what is his name people? the CANON guy from T-O-X-I-N? Because Blaziken, just hop into this dropship, and watch him, watch and learn.

1. If AV was OP, you'd know, more than likely you faced more than 1 competent team of AV, 2 people with swarms is more than enough to take down any ADS provided their quick enough on their fire time, a solo proto swarmer isn't enough unless its a beacon's which can immediately be taken out of the equation for "nerf/rebalancing" as any would know, OFFICER weapons are end game weapon's and are meant to be OP.
2. Railgun's? Seriously, you must've been flying with you're tail end scraping the ground, unless they hit you from 200meters, forge guns, different story, same ending as most, stay for a spell made by some rookie, expect to either blow up or turn into a toad hiding behind a big rock. FG's require you to actually lead the target, like RG's, but unlike them, they require charge up time, if you were sifting through AV shot's, you should've known what would happen to your ADS if you stayed longer, which you did, and you died.
3. So... not only did you lose a few dropships, you ALSO stayed with the ship?.... Hey uuhh... which server do you play on? which faction too? (Seriousness now) You fail to realize your #1 critical error.... You... Are.... GREEEEEEN! I once took and hacked the enemies ADS and began using it for myself, managed to keep it alive a long time, using its missiles to kill 90% of the opposition, even with PLC's and swarms hitting me, I'd just jet out and jet back in once my-sorry-HIS mods came back online, I'd jet back in, cause major damage. I could also tell my enemy was new to ADS as well, because, I manage to out maneuver him and strike back, bare in mind, I'm green too, haven't flown an ADS besides that one time before. Boy, was the enemy PIIISSSSEED! *TROLL FACE YOLO420*.
So yeah you just need to actually get used to flying and shooting and knowing when to fly away, know when tor run. And count your ISK.
