There is a distinct possibility that we will have dropsuit skins in the near-ish future. Maybe... probably.
This is CCP we're talking about so we can never be sure anything will happen. Work with me here.
Let's suppose that skins do become a thing. Assuming skins are organized by [Size] [Race] [Skin Color]... Medium Amarr Navy for example. Also assume they will be BPO's. How much would you pay for a single skin?
I would not not pay more than 4000 AUR ($1.99 USD) per skin. Thoughts?

I wouldn't
I might get some from LP store , but just like in eve with the nexus store.. I didn't buy any of them either. I ran around finding them through exploration , that would be bad ass to do something like that in dust..but that vision and many others will never be realized sadly. |

It is hard to determine an acceptable price.
In League of Legends, you can see your character so the skin being 5, 10, 20 dollars is something that people can generally find some acceptance with. For DUST, you are only going to see it when you are in your quarter, your friends won't see it for being able to show off, and the person trying to kill you doesn't give a stinky turd what you look like as the battles are too fast to go "That guy has a Caldari Navy skin!" My favorited skin is the Caldari 'Raven' Assault with an Exile Assault Rifle and NOTHING else in it. I call it Cheeves. It only exists if I want to call in a vehicle as a cheap suit and because I love the white, digital camouflage on it. If that was a skin, what do I care if my enemies see it; I already 'got mine'.*
It is the same problem in EVE. Aside from you, the only way people are going to see your vanity items is if you snapshot them in your profile picture. Pretty easy if it is the Looking Glass Ocular Implant (monocle), which goes for roughly 70 dollars worth of Aurum. But for something like Men's Commando Pants, which is about 15 dollars worth of Aurum, it isn't as easy.
* maybe that is the reason I am a terrible lover...

I suppose that depends on the quality and selection.
Right now BPOs are roughly 20k AUR, and after already having a BPO of my chosen frame any others would just be purely visual changes.
For example, I don't mind the idea of there being "premium" skins such as the FW-only Navy SKINS, or higher-end SKINS for 10 - 20k AUR. (Think the complex patterns on some suits)
If they can develop tons of very simple recolors, those I'd be willing to pay more like 2 - 3k AUR for. (Think an Amarr where the gold was replaced with Silver or Bronze) |

I should also mention that some of the skins would be available from their respective LP stores for a hefty price, much the same way we see APEX dropsuits.

Honestly after as money as i've spent on this game, they could probably charge 5-10 dollars and I will still buy it, let me tell you why. When something is for sale in the Marketplace my first thought is "that's too much no way". Then guess what I do? guess what I ****** do? I end up buyin that gosh darn ***** anyway lol. So hopefully not too many people that play Dust think like me.............. jeez

Harry Bawlss wrote:Shouldn't pay for skins. Should be something to earn. Why? Cheap, purely cosmetic purchases are great ways to keep a F2P funded and devs employed. A whole helluva lot better than dropsuit BPOs.
Also, I said in an earlier post that you can optionally earn the skins in the LP store for each faction. That allows people who can't / won't buy aurum to still earn a skin.

Skins are the least scummy way for a company to monetize a free to play game. If this was a full price game I would agree with you, but not for F2P.
I'd probably pay 5 dollars, but I think if CCP made them more like 1 or 2 dollars I'd end up spending more in the long run. |

It entirely depends how they work precisely and more importantly how do they look!
Aurum wise I would expect that they would be a little more expensive than a mere 4k aurum but there are many possibilities to have LP ones for the factions.

Of course, I am speculating.
If CCP keeps with the primary colors of the navy factions in Eve Online then these skins should look pretty nice. I see your point though.
Something we haven't considered yet: what if CCP made these skins BPCs. 4000 AUR for 1000 Medium Amarr Navy skins or something like that. I have to say I would probably not purchase skins if they were BPCs. Would anyone else?

With cosmetic items like this the cheaper CCP can afford to make them, the better. You want new players who have played a week to look at the market and see something they can easily justify spending money on with a very low price point.
Look at League of Legends and their champion skins. I have played maybe 10 hours of LoL but I still bought a Nexus skin just because he looked badass and it was pocket change.

1. Your teammates will generally see it more as character model are bigger. 2. Hats add more than just a recoloring of a dropsuit. Heavy with a Football helmet over a Scout that is purple. 3. The opponent sees it perfectly when you kill them through the "killer snapshot." 4. The items are seen whenever you choose the load out. 5. The pre-game start lets you show it off.
I think these differences make for, well, a different kind of beast though TF2 is a good counter-example to my point. My main problem is that CCP has priced things really crazy high. At least League of Legends gives you a skin and a new splash page and, depending on the price, new particle effects and voice acting. Dunno if "digital camo assault" can keep up with hats or LoL skins. Will be interesting to see, assuming it happens.

Hmm... What would be a good price point? It depends on the SKINs I suppose.
Simple (one colour) variations should not cost you much, perhaps 1000-3000 AUR. More complex (camo etc) can go for 3000-6000 AUR. Unique faction skins can go even higher, with a LP equivalent in the relevant store.
In addition: There should always be some skins not obtainable in any store, and only obtainable through events, missions and pure luck (I.e strongboxes). |

To my understanding, SKINs will allow us to both customize the appearance of drop suits, as well as modify base stats of the drop suit (by color). So I would say all SKINs that give bonuses should cost ISK. Cosmetic SKINs should be between $0.99 and $1.99, with a bundle of 3 SKINs being $4.99
