This is CCP we're talking about so we can never be sure anything will happen. Work with me here.
Let's suppose that skins do become a thing. Assuming skins are organized by [Size] [Race] [Skin Color]... Medium Amarr Navy for example. Also assume they will be BPO's. How much would you pay for a single skin?
I would not not pay more than 4000 AUR ($1.99 USD) per skin. Thoughts? I'd say the Navy skins should be LP store only, like 30,000LP and 250,000 ISK. But for regular skins I think 4000 AUR would be right. Quafe skins however... Boxes.
Attention passengers I will be your captain for the evening, I'm sure we won't run into any swarms but just inc- JUMP!!!

In League of Legends, you can see your character so the skin being 5, 10, 20 dollars is something that people can generally find some acceptance with. For DUST, you are only going to see it when you are in your quarter, your friends won't see it for being able to show off, and the person trying to kill you doesn't give a stinky turd what you look like as the battles are too fast to go "That guy has a Caldari Navy skin!" My favorited skin is the Caldari 'Raven' Assault with an Exile Assault Rifle and NOTHING else in it. I call it Cheeves. It only exists if I want to call in a vehicle as a cheap suit and because I love the white, digital camouflage on it. If that was a skin, what do I care if my enemies see it; I already 'got mine'.*
It is the same problem in EVE. Aside from you, the only way people are going to see your vanity items is if you snapshot them in your profile picture. Pretty easy if it is the Looking Glass Ocular Implant (monocle), which goes for roughly 70 dollars worth of Aurum. But for something like Men's Commando Pants, which is about 15 dollars worth of Aurum, it isn't as easy.
* maybe that is the reason I am a terrible lover... You don't get to see your character in TF2 but they have a whole economy about hats and other pieces of eye candy. The only time you get to see it is when you die or taunt.

Rattati has hinted that we should save our LP from the LP event this weekend because of some new items in the store; maybe skins are those items. How much would you be willing to pay in ISK? What about LP + ISK? I personally think the LP/ISK cost of the APEX dropsuits is ******* insane. Yeah, I don't think anyone with a life would go out of their way to play FW for a month just to only be able to get one suit...
