I'm working on something that does a cross comparison between rifles and I would like to include something related to accuracy and recoil. However the only related stat I can find in-game is "Accuracy Rating", however the values seem to be completely all over the place. (AR and higher than ARR and ACR but less than AScr....Laser Rifle which I would consider perfectly accurate, has even less Accuracy Rating than the Assault-Variant Rifles)
So I'm guessing either it's just a trash stat that doesn't mean anything, or it's being used in a formula I don't understand.
Either way, if it is a trash stat, is there some data dump we can get our hands on to get information on Accuracy, Recoil, and Dispersion? Or if the stat is actually meaningful, what is the equation that's being used and how does the Accuracy Rating effect Accuracy, Recoil, and Dispersion?

It is a formula, I will dig it up. Only applies to dispersion weapons.

Much appreciated! Probably one of the older Dust mysteries, so it'll be awesome to figure out what it actually means.

Still need optimal range in the weapon stats, forge gun reload speed, etc.
It's great that Protofits is a nice work around but I know of a handful of people in game who (unbelievably) don't have PCs.
Have a suggestion for the Planetary Services Department?

And protofits can be pretty buggy, even on PC. I can't imagine how it would be on PS3.

Not really, considering my 10 year old PC is weaker than the PS3. The problem is it doesn't support many things like Flash.

Yes really because the PS3 barely has enough RAM for one to use its browser, flash isn't that much of an issue when a lot of sites are adding HTML5, and Javascript support on the PS3 browser is poor.

You weren't kidding, I can't even use it for 10 minutes without having to restart my PS3.

RAM isn't the problem, I've got 4 tabs open in Firefox right now and I've barely used 100MB of RAM so a Browser with significantly less features should have no problem on a system with 256MB.

I was under the impression that the accuracy rating was a sum value of how much the gun disperses when firing (the halfway point between hip fire and ads fire.)
I think I remember being told something like that. But that would only apply to guns with dispersion -- so Laser and Forge would not apply.
Regardless, that's just something I think I remember from 2+ years ago...
There was a good thread by a dev before that explained how dispersion works in this game. I recommend that read. |

I was initially thinking of something like that but the numbers don't seem to really make sense
AR GÇô 56.7 ARR GÇô 54.16 ASR GÇô 59.99 ACR GÇô 54.45
BAR GÇô 57.85 RR GÇô 54.47
TAR GÇô 57.09 SR GÇô 57.46
BAR GÇô 56.24 CR GÇô 58.77
And to make it really weird, the Laser Rifle has a rating of 53.73.
I'm almost wondering if its partially a function of bullet damage and fire rate as well.
I'll see if I can dig up that thread though.
EDIT: Found it - https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2394266#post2394266
Will dissect the spreadsheet when i'm more conscious.

I don't know Pokey. I think it makes sense.
I mean, take the CR. It has low dispersion in both Hip and ADS per bullet fired.
The AR and ARR both have higher dispersion in both the hip and ADS modes. The RR line has more recoil -- but I don't think the accuracy rating on a gun even considers that. I think it ONLY considers the dispersion amounts.
And as I mentioned -- I think the accuracy figure ONLY takes dispersion weapons into account. Hence it is meaningless on the Laser rifle as it has 0 dispersion.
Depending on the dispersion growth numbers listed from that thread that you so thoughtfully linked, Pokey, it isn't unreasonable. Hopefully Ratta will be able to find the exact formula and explain it. |

Actually according to CCP Frame in that post, most rifles have 0 dispersion when aiming down the sight, so in reality overall accuracy when ADS is entirely dictated by recoild which is.....hilarious considering a RR has more recoil than the AR.
I downloaded the most recent data dump from the forums and will try to figure it all out unless Rattati is kind enough to give me dispersion data directly. I also now want to figure out how recoil is calculated as well.

Recoil is not factored into accuracy, but accuracy is just a derived stat, doesn't do anything on its own.
There are different recoil settings as well for ADS and hipfire, the RR for example, to reduce its close combat power has a compounding recoil, ie. grows exponentially instead of linearly. That's why holding it down makes you aim at the sky in bullet 20 or so.

youve touched a nerve with me. its combat power is lacking at both close and long range due to recoil
ive used the RR since its release and know it very well. besides ghost firing, the RR has issues at long range where its kick interferes with its accuracy. the community knows this. you know this.
yet every detail of the RR has been designed to keep the weapon from being precise. high recoil, the inability to feather the trigger viably, and charge up time are work against the RR being a precision weapon.
why has nothing been done about it? isnt it something you can hotfix?
id like to know the logic behind its design honestly
PS
its funny that the RR was nerfed at close range because its a long range weapon perform too well at close range but the Scr was left untouched for ages in its effectiveness at all ranges, including the RR's range

I too would be interested in hearing more. The last time we heard anything about this before now was way back when, was it Frame or someone else who posted on this subject?
