For a long time people have been telling me that playing with a low sensitivity and AA enabled was better than a higher sensitivity.
It feels, like I just have to get the cross hairs vaguely on target and then the AA actually does the minute details to get the gun on target to lay down damage.
I've played many shooters with AA but it was always used to correct for players with high sensitivities on controllers(to make those last few adjustments that you just can't realistically make on a controller), I find it a bit disturbing that the AA in Dust basically replaces the fine motor controls that normally separate people with the ability to aim accurately and those that can't.
Since Dust has a very low maximum sensitivity having AA doesn't make sense.

I'm all for raising the max sensitivity. I can't stand the retardedly slow turn rate of our mercs. It's like a half or a a third of the rate of other FPSs.
I keep my sensitivity maxed in every setting possible and I still feel like I'm wading through a swamp with every movement.
Are you suggesting a sliding AA scale? Low sensitivity, low AA. High sensitivity, high AA. |

aim assist on DUST 514 is very low compared to destiny. destiny makes it feel invisible sometimes though unless you examine it closely.
DUST 514 has different aim sensitivities for many weapons which can make the aiming weird. aim assist helps make aiming smooth. it also allows you to focus on positioning and tactics rather than 100% focus on your aim.
when DUST514 had no aim assist, it was much harder to kill brick tanked proto veteran guys even if you ambushed them from behind because you usually missed them 40% of the time because the tools we use (joysticks) can be hard to use for precision aiming sometimes. aim assist helps newbs and veterans have a smaller gun game performance difference so that the other mechanics of the game like damage profiles and the huge difference in health from militia to proto gear does not overwhelm the new players.
the aim assist is necessary and is just as strong as it was in chromosome, just with some tweaks, making it perform as intended in more situations compared to the chromosome patch in 2013. |

I agree, destiny has far greater AA, but even without it the aiming is smooth. In dust it feels like you're fighting the controller just to get a bead on someone at times. Also the frequency in which it kicks in is weird.
There have been times where i've ADS at a corner, redberry runs by and it starts tracking, others I manually put the dot (Scrambler user primarily, most the AScR) on someone and literally nothing happens. Not even a kneejerk. Part of this has to do with range obviously and the weapon as you mentioned, but shouldn't it function all the way out to the optimal range of all weapons? Does it? Things I don't know.
Being a PC gamer by nature, it's instinct to auto correct once you get LoS, especially when people do the ballerina strafe. Sticks don't offer the same fine tuned precision of a mouse/trackball and AA is there to help compensate, but punishes that PC gamer instinct. I just find it odd is all

I never really noticed the AA until I started to hipfire. believe it or not just a few weeks ago, burst AR and CR are stupid even my exile is nasty up close. Either my gun game has gotten significantly better in the past few weeks and aiming down site is just not my style ooooor AA is a little crazy.

And thats why i have AA turned off. Everything 100% still too slow.
My aim has been baaaaaad lately so i just spray and hope i kill something.

If AA was not a band aid for poor hit detection, low frame rates, and lag then this would be a valid conversation.
Even with AA turned on I find myself unable to land a bullet on target so it really don't matter. I say just turn AA off so that scrubs like me will get strafed to death and forced to rage quit. Problem solved. |

On topic though, I have my settings to default. I have no problems with it, though I usually play fps games without AA. If it's possible to turn it off, I may do just that.

Dust AA isn't 'strong'. And this little tracking you tell about, it doesn't appear when you are fast aiming / or it's very weak when you do so.
Ps. For schtako, Defiance have strong AA. But it's still fun to play.

Once you start shooting, aim assist does not follow your target as much as it does when youGÇÖre not shooting.
We made this video just a few days ago. You can see the aim assist being super sticky as long as youGÇÖre not firing your gun. Once you start firing it pretty much stops tracking. If your target is strafing just few steps to the left and right, then the aim assist helps even when firing (somewhere around 1 minute mark on the video).
IGÇÖm definitely going to test aim assist further, IGÇÖm curious, but the aim assist is really not that strong on DUST.

For the 1290398389423 time, the aim assist in DUST is one of the weakest around.
Every single shooter in my library of PS3 games has either the same or stronger aim assist.

gawd it sucked when they changed the aim assist and gave KB/M antiaim assist, I went from being one of the best run and gun guys on oceanic to being being below average, saw people that were terrible become killers over night, but ppl insisted it wasn't stupidly op AA.
I noticed when i plugged an eagle eye in, that it wasn't even the aim that improved, you could shoot in someones general direction and more bullets would hit them, without AA 90% would miss, with it 90% would hit.

Dust's Aim assist is a Hit detection buff.... Nothing more.
It performs backwards to what Strong aim assists do in other games such as Destiny...
In other games the Aim assist helps players get crosshairs on the general target or around it... The player then has to do fine inputs into the aiming interface to get a good enough shot to be competitive...
DUST you do the general aiming at target yourself... Then Aim assist keeps you hitting at a 90-100% Bullet accuracy... Making it feel like a "Lock" on feature rather then Aim assist keeping the general player competitive...
Aim assist buffed hit detection around the DS3... as soon as you plug in a Mouse into the USB you can see how night and day hit detection performs...
Aim assist is only tragic in DUST 514 because we spent some of the most considered funnest times of DUST's builds without it... But we complained about hit detection for nearly a year solid... Instead of fixing the Core Mechanic and issue to helping DUST be a success they just slapped an Aim assist band-aid over it...

Does anyone have there aim sensitivities set to 8 for X-axis and 7 for Y-axis for hip fire and ADS like me?
Ive never tried it at 40 for 70. |

After I tried the original Halo, I will never complain about aim assist ever again. That game literally aimed for you and pretended that you were the one aiming. Often it would get the target even before you knew about its position.
Also, I'd love for sniping to get a modifier button to lower the sensitivity on demand. Getting headshots is kind of ridiculous on a controller, with the low zoom and the rather big deadzone of the analog stick. |

DUST 514 actually HAD aim assist, yes even back in chromo. It was actually removed during Uprising 1.0, and everyone and their mother complained about the aiming.
