Me too The current code is unplayable at times and I believe that's the reason why some of us are so adamant about the core being fixed first before more aesthetics. I really think CCP needs to just come clean and pick which side of the fence their playing on.
Maybe it's just me but if CCP actually told us where our money was going or at least where our investments would end up I would feel more comfortable continuing to spend more time and money on a half baked product...
Some may say that's none of our business.. I don't know about everyone else but I don't typically like I investing time or money into a product that may be temporary or on the verge of going under.. Outside of the roadmap and Trello board the backbone to Dust being the PS3 has an obvious self life...

The real issue with bandwidth is it has not been explained at all to people in the game unless they got second hand info from a forumite. It would probably be fine if CCP took a little bit of effort to actually explain this convoluted principle in game to new players and people that only play the game. Why don't you hide the links under an overhang? Sometimes an overhang isn't nearby, but with the prevalence of indoor maps it's pretty easy to hide an uplink where a minor flux can't hit it. You can run uplinks on an assault or commando fitting; this allows you to provide a few uplinks and still slay when you have to.

There isn't even a piece of the battle UI to show you that you have X of Y bandwidth in use. That, to me, is just lazy.
They should have waited to deploy bandwidth until they had proper UI for it.

No point in trying to control what is out of your hands. And when some of the upper management run things so poorly, its pretty much all the people further down the hierarchy that have to step up and do what they can.

That's awesome and I have respect for Rattati for that but can you honestly tell me he truly doesn't know where Dust/Legion is headed after the ps3. ? If he does and it doesn't benefit the current "paying player base" all the shiny additions could be considered very manipulative and seen as a pretty shady business practice in the future.. Especially if the future isn't transparent to the paying customer.. :-/ |

Hiding a link from a flux OB does nothing. Any team quickly locates an uplink through scans or just by looking at what direction the enemy is coming from.
MAYBE bandwidth can be okay if:
a) Uplinks progressively have a lower scan profile ending with atleast one type of proto uplink that is absolutely invisible to any type of scans and possibly even has a smaller emission of light and sound.
b) As previously discussed bandwidth has mechanics added for management as well as an explanation that makes it understandable for all players of all levels. This would also probably call for bandwidth being slightly more simplified. |

I see no point to hold Rattati accountable for a company that has obvious management issues.
I would rather just enjoy a ride that is lasting longer and doing better than what it sounded like it would at FF. As far as I am concerned all this extra stuff is just a major bonus.

Rattati is the head dev of the Dust 514 project and as therefore is as the highest up Dust/Legion developer than we can easily get into contact with. I don't even know who heads Legion development, Rouge? No use reaching out to him when he literally hasn't made a single post on the Dust forum since May 2014 (His final post, in a spasm of bitter irony, happens to begin with "Our goal moving forward is to be as transparent as possible".) Rattati is the highest "higher up" with a solid connection to Legion that will speak to us, so he's our best hope for information about Legion. I don't doubt that he has nothing to do with Legion, as he's been hard at work with Dust, but there is no alternative. The future of Dust and the future of Legion are joined at the hip right now.

I like that attitude I really wish I could enjoy the ride and even throw a tip to the operator on each go around. But CCP as a whole is making it incredibly hard for me to throw more money at them and trust me I want too!
But I can't for the same reason I don't play single player games or CoD shooters for that matter. They all eventually come to an end and sit on our shelves collecting dust... Dust is supposed to be a living breathing persistent shooter. A lot of people including myself have spent $100s of dollars on Dust because we truly loved what it is and had faith on what it was to become.
There is no more 10 year plan, no more highlights at Fanfest to look forward too. Not even word on Legion, the one thing that would get a minority of us to actually start investing again.. You said it yourself you're enjoying the ride while it lasts. I'm here with you buddy, but if you paid to get on you should hold the park responsible for keeping you on the rails... |

By the time Phase 1 has its bugs worked out the player base will be under 2k concurrent, and development halted... This is what is bothering me. Most of this new ''content is smoke and mirrors, tbh. Where it does contact actual in-match gameplay, i.e. the warbarge, it's an arbitrary and immersion-breaking kludge that make very little sense. It's also potentially harmful, given the way Rattai was so willing to propose in-match damage bonuses - he should have been the one fighting marketing on that. Instead, once again, it's left to the playerbase to defend DUST. There are many ways to fix PC, this warbarge mechanic is totally unnecessary. This is a mechanic driven almost solely by a marketing model, imo. That marketing model is obviously bad for the game and really doesn't have any respect for DUST's core FPS gameplay or New Eden itself. Yeah, and it's unbelievably frustrating to anyone (vet or new comer) who has put time and money into Dust and who is awake enough see what's going on.. Then we have Rattati posting in this thread like he cares for the players and/or game.. I really want to believe him and I like what he has done so far outside of the strong boxes.. But when threads like above go unmentioned and have seemingly little concern to Rattati and friends. It's hard to stay positive, because anyone who can think outside of the shiny things mentality can see this game for what it is and realize why people have and continue to leave.. I would go on but that threads sums it up nicely... I actually do believe Ratatti cares, and is working to make the game better. But there's a stupidly stark comparison I'm going to make between EVE and DUST and no its not about lore, mechanics or the community. Its about the Dev-cycle. The real reason we're getting 'smoke and mirrors' besides the actually mentioned intent to enlarge the game and make it feel more engaging, is because as someone mentioned somewhere earlier (prolly you Bolsh) is that the core is rotten. As in, UNFIXABLE. Think of when the mechanics where first first made, 3 years ago now. All brilliant and beautiful hard coding that behaved..."magically" ...at first. Probably made by one or two dedicated devs. Then it was a new build here, and some new items there, everything still fairly 'rainbows and unicorns' because the core mechanics, while not perfect, fit decently well with the game. Then devs got shuffled and/or lost to work on the Uprising snafu. And snafu it did. The remake of textures and objects, additions to the game code continued to pile on the original 'legacy' code (FORESHADOWING) burying it deeper and deeper in lines of hardly distinguishable bits from one another. Development then continued to ramp up, adding more and more to try and 'fix' the dark ages of 1.0-1.4. Somewhere in the passage of time, the original coders have been lost. The people that could semi-easily go in and find what they're looking for and change it accordingly. Then Rouge came by and took everything not nailed down to do Legion. Far less devs, same ol' problems fastforward to today: Ratatti most likely KNOWS of the glaring issues, but quite possibly CAN NOT fix them. Either because the game architecture wont allow it, or the man-hours are sooo vast, it will kill anything else we could possibly have Just like EVE's Player Owned Structure coding. and why its never been fixed. In fact, EVE created a whole new class of deployables to dance around the POS code without having to fix it, because its too costly. So in reality, we're getting the shiny new stuff kitchen because we cant fix the crack in the basement walls without tearing the house apart. And that makes me a sad merc. I agree with your analysis Soldner. Thanks for writing that.
The last thing bothering me is that we 'know' Legion is being developed in UR3.
My acknowledged assumption is that CCP would address what is wrong in the core code as the first step of the Legion rewrite. Some of that work on core mechanics should come back to the DUST engine.
Maybe it is and we're just not aware of it. Or maybe the core rewrite isn't happening at all. I sure would like to know, because the answer to that question would allow me to decide if i should devote any time at all to DUST.
