Adding one last spreadsheet to list tonight because clearly CCP (who developed this change) and the CPM (who absent mindedly approved it) have no idea what the community wants anymore. (Hint: We want our salvage without having to [kitten] pay for it). Why should -WE- have to pay for the salvage that -WE- earned?
Add your name below with a '/signed' and I'll add it to the spreadsheet.
CCP: We want our salvage back!

Didn't think about it like that until you mentioned it.
Which makes it even more hilarious, when you think about it like this:
- They make you buy an Agent to get the maximum returns... - They take away salvage and replace it with these salvage boxes... - You can open the salvage boxes, but only if you spend -MORE- money.... - And what you get out of the salvage boxes is AURUM GEAR which is essentially worthless because it costs MORE MONEY to restock.
So, basically, the scheme here is that: We pay for these keys to open these mystery boxes, get a random assortment of things that we can sell BUT AT A REDUCED RATE

Or how about we get rid of them entirely so we can have our in-game ISK variant salvage back? If CCP had asked us before implementing this crock, I'm sure the general community would have unanimously said 'No, we do not want to no longer receive salvage from fighting.'
It'd be like, in Eve Online, if you blew up someone's ship and the only way to get the stuff out of the wreck was by paying CCP $0.40 every single time you wanted to retrieve the loot YOU FOUGHT FOR.
The salvage boxes serve absolutely no purpose besides forcing players to spend money for something that we normally got for playing the game. We got the salvage because we fought and killed other players, playing their game. I would expect this out of a subscription based game where you could bypass the salvage boxes by being a subscriber, but this is just ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind them if they gave free keys way more often.
However, if boxes are out, I expect more missions to give away free stuff. Like, AT LEAST 5/10 missions must ALWAYS hand out items.
If we just get rid of them, then we'd be getting rid of another thing that could've been cool, but turned out the other way.
I vote for the balancing of boxes. |

The daily missions thing is cool but it doesn't account for a player's individual play-time. If you were only going to play five or six matches, the daily missions probably give an equal value of ISK as you would have normally gotten.
HOWEVER, if you're a player that would normally play for marathon sessions and get salvage every match, they basically just hit your payouts with a nerf sledgehammer.

At the moment they are annoying people
The price of keys should be lower The vast majority of people that buy keys think they were ripped off, I certainly did
There should be an option to swap 1000 boxes for 100,000SP , It would make one day month a nice day,
They should give away keys for behavior that helps the community, For example for every 2nd battle you have for Amarr you should get a key
I think they should clarify that strong boxes are an extra, the amount of salvage has not decreased.

You do realize that it's $5 for every 10 boxes, right? We had a perfectly functional, working, reasonable system to begin with and now it's been turned into just another money grab. A lot of us don't care about the 'tweaks to drop rates' or 'other ways around', it's a silly, stupid system that has no place in the game. There is no justifiable reason to have it in the game other than to make money and it directly interferes with the very essence of what New Eden is supposed to be.
Chill with the CCP Fanboyism for a second, please.
EDIT: Seriously, if CCP isn't making enough money through BPOs, Boosters, and Respecs/Market Agents, maybe it's time to just call it quits before this goes any further and starts having a more direct impact on the game like Aurum only skill books or some non-sense.

Lets be honest. The strongbox system has promise but implementation is leaving a lot to be desired.
I totally understand CCP`s desire to want to make money, honestly I am not a fool. However there is little incentive to spend money to open boxes right now because they mostly contain crap. Call it as it is - right now its extreme gambling.
It needs reworking at best.
On top of that, since these changes came through the paltry amount of loot we used to salvage seems to be even more rare now. It feels as if strongboxes have replaced a lot of the loot we would get before.
My main concern and gripe however, is I have yet to see a single officer weapon drop. I feel as if officer weapons have been turned from a rare loot mechanism in game to a pay-wall of gambling where you have a good chance of not even getting said rare loot, even if you DO actually pay for keys.
I am quite saddened by the whole strongbox fiasco as it could have been a much better system.

I got 3 thales as regular salvage yesterday, along with a 9k forge gun, and some grenades.
My missions yesterday gave me 500k isk and 34k SP.
My missions today will net me 2 keys, 520k isk and 42k SP.
Not to mention dozens of adv/pro suits, mods and weapons.
The drop rate on the crates are annoying... but I do have a chance at keys thru missions.
Those with bad luck may go days or even weeks with out missions for keys.
I went weeks on end with out officer salvage in pubs in the past... same difference.

And to all the "reasonable" people replying to this thread. Strongboxes are not a bad idea inherently, I believe most people here object to the way CCP implemented them, on top of them really just adding an unnecessary layer of randomness. There is nothing about the way they work as they are that suggests anything but a huge desperate money grap, and even that was done badly.

/signed but with a caveat
1) Stongboxes should become rare.
2) Keys should give equal Aurum return, and becomed staggered as well
e.g, A 50 aur key give 50 aur worth of items , 100 aur key 100 aur value, 1000 aur key 1000 aur value etc
3) Option to sell strongboxes for ISK. Gamble if you want, and sell the boxes if you don't. 10K per box would give the boxes some value in either selling or achieving in mission rewards.
4) Remove all starter fits, frontline and defender, as well as basic items immediately
I don't care about CCP trying to make money, but there is a much better way to go about it than ripping off your player base. War Thunder is also a free to play game that heavily rewards players who invest real money. They manage to be successful without diluting the value of items purchased.
CCP needs to convince us that spending cash on the boxes is worth it.
There is no way the + $100 of aurum i need to unlock my 300+ boxes will be the equivalent of either the elite pack, or the 10 year Templar anniversary edition of EVE onlline, or almost a year's subscription to EVE online.

I still get salvage for battles, and now I get strongboxes too. I don't see a problem with CCP adding features. The amount of strongboxes you get compared to the amount of keys is insane though. They need to rethink the chances of finding boxes and keys and give everyone like 200 keys for Christmas to make up for the extreme amount of boxes we have already. |

Do I think it's perfect? Absolutely NOT. Do I like the concept? Absolutely.
In the few matches I have played I have not noticed a decrease in normal salvage...(but hey, I could be wrong?) The mechanics and logic is good, but the box drop rate needs to be cut drastically. --> 1 key per 10 boxes.
It should not cost you a fortune to open every box you get, and right now the drop rate is silly. That is my only grievance with the system.

boxes must be four types -Amarr -Caldari -Gallente -Minmatar
you should be able to buy their keys in the LP market the hacked keys purchased for AUR should open all types
you can farm a key type and open 1/4 boxes or two types of keys and open half of boxes and farm twice if you want to get the remaining key types you will need to buy a booster or lose faction standing
farm or pay I think this is better than the current model of the mystery box for money

Agreed.
We don't yank weapons when they're out-of-balance; we balance them. Why yank this new content if we can finetune it to make for a more rewarding experience?
* Adjust strongbox:key pickup ratio from 50:1 to 20:1 (or better) * Add Key Cache to strongbox loot (Fox Gaden) * Add Passive/Active Boosters to strongbox loot (Delt) * Add ultra-rare strongbox exclusives (i.e. BPO Light Wpns tagged as Sidearms, BPO vehicles, etc) * Add rarity ratings and tweak strongbox aura (blue, purple, gold) * Add an Isk value to strongboxes and permit their sale via market |

Why is the only time I see a good CPM idea, the same time they are trolling .... Then tomorrow I'll read an actual proposal and think... this guy must be trolling
As for removal of boxes or fixes to droprates.... You guys Suck. CCP bother to add something, you flood the forums with complaints... CCP give away a stupid amount of boxes, you complain some more... CCP want your money to build their game... more complaints
I understand why people are bugged, but really?? get some restraint and ignore the boxes... These over-flowing tear buckets could be filled with much more productive QQ. |

Don't remove. Just edit them and the AUR price so they are worth buying. Make it only drop loot I can use. Make them drop officer tokens I can trade for the weapon I want. And make the boxes rare. O should not be getting 70 in one day.

This. Kind of.... Just make the keys racially themed and keep the boxes how they are.
Buying an Amarr LP key would automatically drop Amarr type items when the box is opened. AUR keys can be selected race as well. Keys from missions remain the same and are totally random.
If I could get all Amarr items which is what i run, I would buy a pile of keys. Just because even basic stuff I would know that I can use it.

/Signed. Didn't think about it like that until you mentioned it. Which makes it even more hilarious, when you think about it like this: - They make you buy an Agent to get the maximum returns...
I hadn't either because I never sell anything after initially cleaning out my inventory after purchasing the agent.
Seems like they need to sit down and have a meeting on real life monetization and how they relate to ingame income generation.
1) Obviously the salvage system 2) The effect of 8 billion different types of BPOs on the current ISK payouts

Add your name below with a '/signed' and I'll add it to the spreadsheet. CCP: We want our salvage back! Free to play, you don't have to buy anything to play this. You can now even grind for a BPO suit. I call entitled b.s. on this whole thread. I am literally looking at your avatar and flipping you the bird.
I see where you are coming from but honestly STYLIE77, this is more about the implementation of strong boxes. Not the mission system (which by the way I agree is a fairly nice addition to the game).
You may call this thread an entitlement whine but really who are the fools here? CCP could have changed a few things and actually made strongboxes something people want to spend isk on. As it is right now, please show me anyone that thinks spending aurum on these keys is a good idea. (If you say yourself I will scream)
You would think CCP would want to make more of an incentive for people to buy them, not less.
Being able to grind for a BPO suit is awesome I agree. Certainly did not expect that from CCP and I gave them props for that from day one.

Here is an idea: Strong boxes can only be found as salvage for every daily mission completed at the end of a match so at max 15 a day, not only that if a player gets killed a certain number of times he/she loses a strong box and said killer gets the box. Now this way MERCS are not flooded by BOXES and become something of a trophy like the Frozen Corpses in EVE. But first we need to have at least half of our boxes removed from the game.

why not just:
1. reduce the drop rate signifigantly 2. allow some other way to open them (e.g. 500k-1mill isk per crate or do X amount of mission to allow 1 unlock) 3. have more ways of getting keys besides spending real money 4. create a 10% chance to get a key from battle salvage

How they should have done it:
Bronze strongbox: 50% drop chance Contains some basic/militia gear upto 20 units
Silver strongbox: 25% drop chance Contains adv/basic gear upto 10 units
Gold strongbox: 10% drop chance Contains proto gear upto 5 units.
Diamond strongbox: 2% drop chance Contains officer gear upto 3 units.
The strong boxes are free to open and drop randomly in salvage, however you can also buy them for aurum in "strongbox packs" For example: 5 bronze for 250 aurum, 5 silver for 500 aurum, 5 gold for 750 aurum
