As it is, someone can start moving unpredictably, thereby confusing their opponent and throwing off their aim. But there's also a chance that the opponent is a tryhard strafe-cheater as well, and now you have TWO people trying to trick each other into missing shots, while also trying to LAND shots.
I think we can all say that using such trickery to win an encounter is utterly unacceptable. It's kinda like in basketball when someone fakes another player out, and then the referee shoots the offending player in the back of the head.
CCP PLEASE. I only half agree with you because you're missing half the picture.
Removing strafing is fine, but we also need a set of passive skills that increase aim assist. They would have to break down to categories like 'Adhesion Amplification', 'Magnetization Radius Modulation' and 'Assist Range Projection' to name only a few.
But we also want to maintain racial identities, so we could vary racial bonuses, for example Ammarians could get an 'Alpha Shot hyperMagenetization' bonus for their Scrambler Rifles bonus while Minmatar could get a 'Projectile Tracking Adhesion' bonus for their Combat Rifles. 'Assist Range Amplification' would be a great native bonus for the Caldari and their Rail Rifles, whereas 'Magnetization Radius Expansion' is just the ticket for Gallente.
I know this all sound great, we have to be careful that all these skillpoint sinks don't make the game too grindy, so these bonuses should be available in the AUR store, to accommodate all manners of playstyles.
P.S. Could someone please forward this to CCP Z? I think he'll love it.

TooMany Names AlreadyTaken wrote:As people above said, we need inertia physics, the way it is now people change direction instantly, becoming near untouchable.
EDIT: Yup, had a feeling my post would be on the next page... shoulda listened to it, yup... -.- I'm tired of this silly myth about the game not having "inertia"
You strafe left-right-left-right and the local client DOES NOT let you instantly change directions, there's a little slop. Test it yourself.
The problem is that the network/movement prediction code is misconfigured or just plain screwed, and is showing remote clients that your character is at x + 3 location, instead of x + 1 (or whatever the right latency correction is). Strafing quickly just exacerbates this.
This is evident to anyone who plays without aim assist (Mouse users, FW Griefers, Plasma Cannons, Mass Drivers, etc), who watch their shots fly right through people every damned day because their target is NOT ACTUALLY THERE.
Let's not confuse the issue, eliminating strafing isn't to "fix" the netcode, and won't ever "fix" the netcode unless movement is removed entirely from the game (something that should be seriously considered).
The point of removing strafing is to fix the fundamental flaw in this game: THAT PEOPLE CAN STRAFE AT ALL.

In fact, you should probably make a new proposal thread with this idea.

Can CCP fix the core problems of the game instead of trying to put playability band aids on on that just make these things even more difficult to fix?
Strafing was never a problem when we had the thing that slowed you down when you got shot. I really think this should be brought back. I think you're on to something.
Removing strafing might not be enough since you can still turn and sprint. I fully support the reduction of motion while being shot, especially since aim assist will work EVEN BETTER with that mechanism.
Honestly the TTK in this game is way too high anyway.

It's a defense mechanism for scouts, because we have to dodge shots due to a lower eHP.
I think strafing is more of an issue with heavies and assaults. Idk if you've ever seen a min/gal/cal heavy strafe, but it's difficult to kill a skilled strafer in a heavy suit. Shield-tanked assault suits are also hard to hit while strafing.
Due to the high amount of hit points a character can have, and a low TTK like this game, you emphasize strafing as an importance to maintain as much of that eHP as possible.
If you eliminate strafing, it no longer becomes about skill necessarily, rather who has the most eHP. That's why I like strafing, just not with heavies.

+1000 Thank you OP
I am just sick and tired of losing Gunfights to scrubs, who magically move their thumbs left and right. Its a game breaking mechanic, and I am just finally glad someone had the courage to bring it up.
I have been here sense day one and have amassed a huge amount of SP and ISK. 99% of the player population should not even be able to challenge me, yet with the strafing mechanic, I die more times then I kill.
CCP I am a paying loyal costumer, who is being destroyed by these so-called joystick jockeys. Just get rid of strafing, and LET US ROLL FOR KILLS. |

I think you're on to something.
This IS an RPG after all.
Shouldn't the highest skilled character in the best gear always win out?
Individual skill shouldn't be what defines this game, and actually prevents people from enjoying it because they aren't "FPS spergs". I think enough is enough.
I should be rewarded for grinding and buying boosters, and my SP and skill tree should have more of an effect on the outcome. Can we just have a roll of the dice for encounters based on stats?
We could even have modules that increase our "luck", just so maybe the low skilled players can win an encounter SOMETIMES (maybe like 5-10%). This gets to the root of the idea behind Aim Assist modules, but cuts all the middle-men out.
The Luck Module should have stacking penalties of course. We wouldn't want this game over-run by Proto-Luck tryhards.

Lmao! Dodging should be part of a game in my opinion, BUT people using keyboards should not have the advantage they do with it.
Personally I say disable using a keyboard for the game, I've played online FPS's on a PC, a controller cannot contend with the functionality of the keyboard and mouse.

That's just silly since everyone will obviously play with a keyboard and mouse primarily.
The argument could be made that everyone can use a keyboard and mouse, but the thing is every system comes with a controller so you know everyone has one and people like me who use a USB port for their headset can't plug up both since there is only one USB spot left .3.

with the current TTK, the best way to prolong your life is to strafe. shooting from behind cover ismt very efective, as most weapons have fairly light recoil, allowing for precise placement of shots. Although, if you could come up with an alternate way of doing things, i would support it, because I personally have the most fun in Academy matches where no one knows how to strafe, so they all fire from behind cover.

Then you come to DUST 514 where I Put on an high tech dropsuit with shields and regenerative armor. Skill out the character with millions of skill points amplifying movement speed, health points ETC...
Why should we have an intense fight where both mercenaries are fighting for 20-30 seconds?
