It is just a corp name... most of them actually felt pretty average. Although same could be said when I joined tp and felt like everyone was average on my level and 99% of the rest of the player base was just terribad. There were only very few players during my time on this game that really stood out to me. Eh when they guys like Beld I knew to stay the **** away from his tank. The talent range of the current playerbase simply does not compare to that of the era of chromosome and before in closed beta. Those real high end guys, (Fizzy and James comes to mind) rocked basic and advanced Caldari assaults with GEKs and less than 500 hp and they would put up kill counts and kdrs I struggle to hit with dual tanked stacked proto suits with Duvolles. And they did it without aim assist or tac net shenanigans. I might be considered an above average player now, hell, in this current pool I'd even put myself as well above average, but back when the bunnies and Imperfects were relevant, I couldn't even hold a flame to some of those guys in my wildest fantasies. Only thing I had going for me was being a good assault counter sniper, and anti-AV for slap. Oh I won't deny that. Pre Tankpocalypse 1.7 I was a significantly better Tanker than I am now...... I'm lazy now, my tanks cost all of maybe 700-800K ISK which isn't much, and I don't care when I lose em or how....... back pre 1.7 I did. I'd spend minutes analysing an enemy tank on foot to find out how it fought and then to guess what it was equipped with before calling in my own. Then I would basically keep tabs on it either waiting for friendly AV to engage or for a chance to sneak up behind it and once that happened I'd simply go to town on it in my "Little Soma that Could". Either that or ran the old Light Scout HAV to wreck anything that thought it was superior to a MLT tank with insane mobility and DPS.
Speak for yourselves noobs lol. When I first started, I only felt like I sucked for 2 weeks max then I started carrying my team. Facing james ment it wasn't going to be another snoozefest match. I looked forward to players like him but I never considered them as invincible as some people make them out to be.
I guess that is the difference between our skill levels.... I can actually fight back. :p

General please.
It's not hard to score highly on your team in public matches if you try, especially with how vehicles used to be before turrets got 10K EHP. You could easily score 4-5K WP a match and have 35-60 kills. That did not means I was a better tanker than I was before I simply had an OP tool that required little effort to use.
I was better back then because I cared enough to want to be.
Currently I don't. All I have to do is win FW matches and beat the Q-Sync on the other side of the map..... job done. No enjoyment, no context, and a lack of content means I don't have the motivation to want to be competitive.
I said, "Empress, I do this, I thought that you knew this.

Yes. SyN was another one. I think SyN and TeamPlayers were probably of only a handful of corps that could actually beat the Imps and Bunnies with some resemblance of consistency.
Pretty much all the corps that were in closed beta and then made up EoN during the early PC days. Imps and Bunnies went independent and didn't take sides, and were up for hire at that point, if memory serves.
Don't matter. EoN would have eventually fallen, whether or not the Imps and Bunnies joined. They simply weren't big enough. Made hundreds of millions of isk, but people were just getting tired. Didn't want to try anymore.
Back in the day, if you were facing SyN, Team, or Imps. It would make your palms sweaty and you got excited for the match. I don't get excited and anxious for a match like that anymore. As for the Bunnies, I never saw them often enough personally to know for sure. The times I did, the match was hit or miss. I knew they were good though, because some guys in corp would tell me how fun a match would be against them. I just never really experienced them.
We corp battled Imps and won a few times, tt was back and forth. We only beat them once in PC though, never got them again. We never corp battled the Bunnies, and I only saw the Bunnies once in PC when I was ringing for SyN. We won. We never once beat SyN in a corp battle, but I did a lot of ringing with them, and they did for us too. They were ALWAYS good. We never corp battled Team Players. I did some ringing for them in PC. They won consistently.
My vote for GOAT goes to Synergy Gaming. With Imps and Team Players tied for second. Bunnies third (on grounds that even though I dont have much experience facing them, I saw the wake of destruction they left behind in PC).

Dude, let's not act like 500 eHP was not more than enough in chromosome. This game was terribly easy and majorly clunky and if you look at the first person perspective of most of these players, you find out that all good players have similar good aims, just some take more advantage of either broken mechanics or just being more aware. The hit detection was god awful and strafing with a kin-catted out dragonfly scout only made it worse, it was easy to get away with under 500 eHP if they never landed a bullet. "Talent" just comes from playing the game long enough to get good at it. Less than mate. Fizzy in particular ran around with barely 400, if that. I recall that number because it was how I was able to kill him with finely cooked basic locus grenades whenever I had to face off with him. And these guys ran assaults, not kin cat scouts. Even with the shoddy hit detection, being able to stay alive is one thing, but these guys put up 45+ kills on a regular basis, I watched them put up greater than 60 with GEKs on basic assaults. That was talent. Talent -nowadays- is people who have played long enough to have 50 million sp. ARs were OP as **** and the only go-to weapon there was. Sax can still drop a 70 bomb using advanced gear, and I know plenty of others that can too. This game was easy mode back in chromasome, I think if you match up the best players of today versus the best players then, in this era, they would get toasted dude. There's more to DUST now.
You're right. The game is different today. But I don't think the older players would have a hard time adapting to cloaked shotgun scouts (and I honestly think that's the ONLY thing that would catch the old dream teams off-guard at first).
Newer weapons like RRs and CRs they would immediately adapt to. The learning curve is far less steep today than it was back then.

Depends what we're talking about here. Imperfects in closed beta was far different than in open beta and beyond. Pretty sure we played SyN in the closed beta tournament and rolled right over them, but then again I'm sure it was a different SyN than the one in open beta and beyond.
Though, I've always considered SyN a good corp, but nowhere near the level of say TP for example.
Bunnies were top guys for sure, as long as we're only talking 8 vs 8 battles. They just weren't deep enough of a corp to be considered a top corp in bigger battles.
Winner of the EU Squad Cup & the closed beta Tester's Tournament.

Well, you're right. Just like you say, "it depends". If we start getting into who did what during their prime, then naturally the arguments to decide GOAT become convoluted. I just gave a vote based on what I experienced of them across all eras: Closed, Open, and PC.
It's a close order too. Near the end of my time playing PC, SyN and TP were constantly carrying for EoN against bad odds. My time with both of them made me filthy rich. lol

I wouldn't say SyN could consistently win the elite 8v8 battles of closed beta, but we could go 30+ players deep without a dropoff in talent which was extremely rare back then.

Y'all havent mentioned the original BetaMax group (damn good) or Seraphim Initiative. Both top corps. Although the tournament that Imperfects won for that LAV blueprint was pretty cool. Nyan San was around then too...
And as far as the scores go -- anybody could put up 40+/0 games as well. The Type B suit (was it B?) and a gek with your points properly sunk into Damage Mods and the damage mod proficiency was all you needed to **** with headshots. Those tier 2 suits (as in rank 2 in the skill....) could go toe to toe with a heavy and win 95% of the time...
Not to MENTION all the free kills remotes on the points gave you because they turned invisible... |

I was not "Leet" enough for the PFBHz v PRO battle at the time, it seems...
But on a more nostalgic note, I do think that the original 8 merc "Dream Teams" - Imps, PFBHz, SI, SyN - would roast the current best players if they played with the same interest that they did back then.
The Zitros were a very, very good pair, and Mr. Zitro's tank was pretty damn awesome. Aldin was the only tanker that Slap26 ever admitted could pop his tank. Protoman set the first "legitimate" 100+ Kill in pubs (Admittedly, he called in tanks on top of buildings for a fair chunk of it) Fizzy was great as well. I think that at my best, I was close to his equal. I would absolutely say that he was better than me
James was/is the best player I have seen. Not because he is great at DUST, but because he is great at shooters in general. He had extraordinarily good aim, even on a DS3. I remember the first time I played against him in a Q-synced pub match. Everyone in the corp had hyped him up, so I wanted to take a crack at him. He hadn't even gotten enough skill points for proto gear, but he wrecked me in mine. I got a kill or two on him, but he and I were just at different levels. Not to say I was the best of the best or anything. There were and are plenty of players better than myself.
Laz was one of the best Dropship pilots, along with Doc Holiday, etc.
If PFBHz had fared well in the opening days of Uprising, we probably would have operated like TP did in their heyday. We were not deep enough to own tons of space, but we would have been very active ringers.

Beat pfbz with a quebec squad 5 vs 8 in a corp match.
Good times.
They even tried to awoxx us by having radar swap teams mid match and we still won.
Very good times.
