Seriously, it seems like everyone just wants to tell me that I'm a scrub whilst saying how hardcore they are because they don't use a cloak. Not one person has given me a decent reason why they don't use a cloak; it's always 'cloak is for scrubs'. I get sick of this elitist bs. 'Oh, you don't use a cloak? I must avert my gaze, I am not worthy to look upon your clone! #toohardcore4me'. If someone asks me if I use cloak, I know exactly what's coming next: 'I don't use cloak because cloak is for scrubs omg git gud scrub lololololololololol!'. - _ - 'Oh, I'm sorry for using a piece of equipment that was designed for my role, and that I get a bonus to. Guess I'm just an idiot!'
Not using a cloak on a Scout is like not using a SCR/LR on an Amarr Assault, or not using Knives on a Min Scout, because then it becomes EEEEEEEZZZZZZZ mode!
Just please, stop the elitist bs. I use a cloak. Get. Over. It.

Issues are still abound with the cloak due to how it functions and how it easily becomes less of a tactical tool (equipment should be this) and more of a Short Range Weapons Delivery System.
Nothing wrong with the cloak itself but depending on who you ask..... but I liked Aeon's suggestion for cloaks.

To be fair though the cloak is the only module/equipment item specifically intended for use by one single dropsuit.
I mean how would a scout like it if Assault got Jump Jets and flew off every time they put one shotgun round into them?

I mean how would a scout like it if Assault got Jump Jets and flew off every time they put one shotgun round into them? Then the jet pack would be a bit overpowered. I suggest giving it a 3.0s warm-up time before you lift off.
Cloaks have recently gotten a healthy nerf: the scan radius reduction and cloak delay's effects are tangible. I don't get insta-gibbed nearly as much and *GASP!* I sometimes survive scout encounters, even when they ambush me while cloaked.
If we can fix the dual tanking, wiggle strafe scouts then we will be in a good place.

Because a lot of us developed fits and playstyles with the scouts way before they were OP or cloaks were invented.
A cloak is a good tool to use, if you like it use it. Just dont forget that there is possibly a lot more valuable pieces of equipment that you ~might~ want to think about using instead.
Don't worry about elitism, its everywhere.

People deride scouts who cloak because it's perceived as OP. It's not REALLY OP. A very annoying power when people just appear behind me after I cleared the guard off a obby and get insta-killed by a invisible human.
If I wasn't a masochist, is run squads, and it wouldn't be a big issue.

No cloaks for me. Personally, I think it was kind of a dumb idea for CCP to introduce cloaks (and expect them to be a logistical nightmare from here until Legion for them).
But I've got no problem with other players who use them.
See, the thing is, I die way too easily to people with cloaks. And to people with Proto suits. Or people with Assault Drop Ships. Nova Knives. Tanks. Rail Rifles. Anyone with 10 million sp or more. Squads. Q-syncers. Laser Rifles. Etc etc etc.
I've just come to accept that 1) I am somewhere in the top of the low tier and I'm going to be eaten alive by 85% of the Dust player base.
and 2) I'll never ever catch up to vets.
So I just play, and that's how it should be for most of us. So if you want to use cloaks go for it. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise if that's what you like to do.
but no, I will never use one.

The cloak has its uses and drawbacks, like everything in this game. I find it useful for crossing open ground when there is no other way to reach the objective. It's not like I'm going to give those randomly scattered assaults easy kills.
On the other hand, it serves little purpose in city maps.

It's a simple change, but in dust when people can see nearly forever, no cloak can get pretty hard. Though, Amarr Assault and Min scout, SCR/LR Knives or not is generally easy mode. A lot of scouts at advanced, same for assaults are easy mode. A simple change like not exploiting a suit skill bonuses doesn't mean you are some gamer plebian, because even when no cloak use does get hard don't forget scouts can excel in nearly anything they want to. You're just being smart player. |

Not exactly right.
A cloak can be used on any suit that can fit it (I've seen logi and assaults use it). That said, an HMG or Forge can only go an heavy or sentinel suits.

You're talking about some of the best scouts in the game. I said most good scouts not the elite :) I know all those guys were good but scouts were extremely hard mode back in the day. |
