Here are some of my absolute favorite looking ship from eve, the Curse. The Tech 2 version of the Amarr Arbitrator, manufactured by Khanid Innovations (who has the best color scheme). I know it's in a Gallente station, but they had the best office prices available for that area
Curse
Khanid Logi and Tanker, sometimes AV Heavy or Sniper.
I believe all these roles are support for front line soldiers.

Black and Red digital like the Bloodgrail, with black metal. Hell no! Yes, someday we should get pirate suits, but they should have custom models and be amazing! It would really cheapen DUST/LEGION if these were just paint jobs thrown in as BPOs to make a quick buck. At the current pace of development I'm thinking at least 5 years out.
Best PvE idea ever!

Okay first and foremost the bottom line question we need to ask is
Does the Navy need to match the Army?
And depending on how this question is answered would lead to how much freedom we should have.
If No we get more freedom on how we do things.
If Yes it may restrain us a bit but not so much we're not at a position able to do anything about it.
Now before we go citing IRL places do note that there are multiple militaries all over the world; some of which is where the NAVY is part of the ARMY (China) and in others they're separate entities (US and most European Countries)
Now why would you culturually have the two components wearing or branding the same colors? The answer lies likely in pride and friend and foe recognition.
Pride is also the most likely excuse as to why we still have camo today despite the next factor I am going to bring up.
Why Camo?
Normally in our environment camouflage is by all means rendered useless. Visual confirmation in our battlefields are computer assisted and impossible to dodge without a cloaking device so a visual paint scheme has been proven largely ineffective. Yet despite this the desire to camo things up is still there.
This is likely attributed to Pride and potential psychological warfare (ie Blood Raider paint is very damn distinctive and would strike fear in most people at the sight of one. )
This is also why the Quafe suit can get away with its blatant advertising without compromising the soldiers ability to fight much.
So overall we have a massive range of potential candidates for just about everything when it comes to visual customizations for all sorts of races; corps; and special issues even.
I say let us exhaust our current pallets as well as explore new issues of colors simultaneously.
So Starting with Corps and Empires
We start comparing dust 514 colors to eve colors and low and behold.
Now I am going to draw up a few examples starting with the gallente (as they're easiest)

those are all good, as for Gallente they like to have a lot of greens and stuff so maybe use green with grays.
Also, my major complaint right now with the suit colors is...
WHO THE HELL MAKES A LOGISTICS SUIT ******* CONSTRUCTION YELLOW FOR THE ENTIRE OTHER TEAM TO BE ABLE TO SPOT THEM A MILE AWAY WITHOUT NEEDING A SCOPE!!!
Additionally, why the hell are assault suits white? Another color that attracts a lot of attention.

I can see your point IWS but I feel like in the history of Dust 514 I have seen nothing but poor representation of the Amarr via their dropsuit colour schemes.
I could cite the debacle and failures of the Racial Faction Packs sold early this year which saw the Gallente, Caldari, and Minmatar all recieved unique and almost custom colour schemes that had not been seen before. All the Amarr got was a a "Neo" suit with orange high light after CCP advertised, then removed from the description, Golden Dropsuits.
While I don't think they necessarily "need" to match the Navy Variations I cannot see why players would ever be adverse to the Woodland Gallente Green FDU camo, the Digital State Protectorate Grey/Blue, the Drab almost Tiger Striped Republic Navy, and the clear concentric designs of the White/Black/Teal Imperial Navy designs.
I am a huge stickler for aesthetic design.
As I have stated before and posted
Here are some suggested themes with colour palates that are lore appropriate and a gallery of all of the Amarr Faction's (pirate inclusive) and their respective colour schemes.
Themes are:
- Khanid Cyber Knight - Either Tan on Navy Blue - Ammatar Consulate Marine - Grey with Golden High Lights - Imperial Court Paladin - Deep Crimson with Gold Highlights
My personal Favourite (AKA would throw money at!):
Tash Murkon - Grey with Deep Ochre Orange
You probably have this already but Thematic Colour Schemes

BTW Kagehoshi those amrr are slightly out of date and fan designed ( T'Amber is rather notorious for her recolors she even did the fuzzy megathron and few others.)
For example the CCP Ripped shaders puts the trash murkon in a much darker metal and deeper ruby color.

In a perfect world there would be an online shader tool. People could colour a suit with sliders, add information about why it is a certain colour, and then post it online/in game for people to vote on. The most voted for gets in the game. The community engagement would be marvelous. Oh the feels.
I don't even know what Tash Murkon is but it looks absolutely splendid. Corp used shaders would be absolutely awesome. You would know you are fighting a squad of PFB or D-uni just by colour.

Tash Murkon is one of many Amarrian houses capable of inheriting the throne after Khanid ditch the whole succession rights. They're a bit more expertise in mercantile and commerce over the other houses better known for their theology, technology, and military; their economy is to not be trifled with but some suspect they fund the Dark Khanid cult which torments the departing kingdom constantly.

This.
The Caldari have 8 Megacorporations who have their own unique colour schemes.
The Amarr have 5 Noble Families, the Emperor Family, the Court Chamberlain, and Imperial colour schemes.
Gallente have something like 4 Corporations, Intaki Vessels, etc and their unique colour schemes
The Minmatar have Tribal Colour Schemes, etc
All are lore appropriate an not a single one has been used as far as I can tell to this date...... moreover Pirate factions have their own unique colour schemes.

They use the same battle tactics, weapons, ships, modules, ect. as the other Amarr. They have always just been repainted.
The only pirate factions that are likely to get their own models are Sansha and Angels. Sansha Dropsuits would be sick. Imagine strange, bulbous, horned/spined, unnatural humanoids with similarly descripted weapons that fire purple lasers. Their ships remind me of something between sea urchins and a fetus. Just creepy.

This is exactly what is missing in dust. Context.
Who knows, or even cares what they are fighting for in dust. Federal marines, Sanmatar kelkoons, Amarr Templars.
These things are perfectly logical when you play eve, in dust however it's just pixels and light.

Moar Screenshots! (Did a stop-off in Amarr on my way back from a self-guided tour of Ammatar Space)
Khanid Innovation Sacrilege Heavy Attack Cruiser - Another Amarr Missile Brawling Ship from the Kingdom, Highly Resistant Armor combined with Enough Missile Spam to make a Macross Variable fighter, or a Broadside blush.
Mordu's Legion Garmur Frigate - A fast, recently released frigate that is somewhere between an Assault Frigate and an Interceptor...very fast, great at holding things down, is best outfitted to kite the enemy.
The Raven State Issue - The Very Rare Variant of the Raven Class battleship (Screenshot only available due to the Limited Edition Ships market tab), used to be the only ship available to players with 8 missile hard-points, still remains a contender for highest non-siege damage, but the unique nature of this ship make it unlikely to ever be fielded

Hey Thaddeus ... just F.Y.I
It was with the "Trinity 2" graphics engine 2007 that the Khanid Navy were at there best ( Black , Silver & blue lights and port holes)..
Unfortunately i never took any screenshots of my ships before the colour scheme was changed to what we currently have .. Which was only recently. Theres a few posts on the forums asking CCP not to change the Khanid Navy colour scheme.
The "Dominion" trailer shows a squadron of Khanid Interdictors at .57secs into the vid ( but too quick to get a good look at them) and a Damnation from 1.40 but the silver hull is reflecting the the red colouration of the nebula behind it.
