It seems that new MM puts you with people from random parts of the world, i'm seeing people and corp i've never seen.
The lag is horrible.
I know there are not a lot of players active at the same time in each region, but please, before making teams check the player region (not what they have set in their options, their actual region), then all the rest. Otherwise we will have even match on the paper, but uneven because certain player can't hit other players due to lag.

We introduced a Team Balancing method. That's not Matchmaking, they are two distinct parts of the process of creating a battle.
Nothing changed about how players are collected from queues to create the 32 player pool. The Matchmaker does not try to gather similar Mu players.

Ok so if you haven't used the Mu for matchmaking, can you use it for matchamking?
When people queue, pick up the top 32 and put them in a match, the bottom 32 and put them in a match, the middle 32 and put them in a match.
Team-balancing is only going to work effectively if the people from which you pick the team is already balanced. Because no matter how good single players are, they will never be as good as a squad with comms and orders.

That's debatable actually. I believe that the utmost importance is equal teams. Playing with only players of the same ability, may hinder stomping, but it may also hinder learning. I have no problem with playing with players better than me as I see what they spawn in, where they place their uplinks etc AS LONG as the teams have similar ability. I have played competitive sports since I was a boy, and nothing is worse than unfair teams, when they could be fair. Once they are fair, then it's still up the players to play their heart out and win.

Maybe make a quick match mode... Basically ambush with no squads but team speak still active, no shared passive scans or extra points ( bolth of which are significantly better for vets ). Would be great for new casual players.

I was thinking about something, but i believe it's not possible without a client update, even something simple as a rate the match button, where you can rate your last match, it would be useful to know if a match is balanced or not.
I've noticed something, when i play solo, match are more balanced, probably squad mutliplier need a tweek.

That sounds boring as hell tbh. Would prolly start seeing the same peeps ad nauseum in battles.

The lag part does suck, but the fact that we're seeing more small corps could mean more organized groups. That's a good thing! Those blueberries that take up half your team and don't fight could be seen less and less with this system. The more we see 3 to 6 man squads actually fighting the better the battles! I encourage all new players to squad up and join corps so they can stay in the game longer.

That was not solved, but something I really don't like and would like to change. The game already has trigger events that are used to activate the announcements for MCC shields 50% depleted, Shields depleted, and Armor 50% depleted - you could use one of these trigger event points to also trigger the cessation of adding players to the match.

I have played competitive sports since I was a boy, and nothing is worse than unfair teams, when they could be fair. Once they are fair, then it's still up the players to play their heart out and win. While I agree that some variation of allowable mu is desirable, I think it's also very desirable to be able to influence the outcome of a battle.
My vehicle alt went through some matches lately to get the MCC-bonus. He has exactly 0 skill points in infantry. To test the matchmaking I played mostly infantry. The character has far less than 100 WP/death, and about 100 WP per match average. Mu-wise garbage. Most matches, especially skirmishes, were very well balanced. The matches were only decided in the last third of the battle. Mission accomplished. Thumbs up. On the other hand I walked out of those matches with scores like 2/11 and similar.
I know how to play the game. On this character I can do just fine in STD gear and walk out of a match 20/3 or similar. So while the end-of-match scores were fine even for my 0-SP alt I had an absolutely rotten time. No enjoyment at all. There was nothing to learn there except that this game should be avoided unless you're a vet. I would not recommend anyone to sit through 6 months of 1/10-games before being allowed into the fun-club.
On the other hand academy-battles are tremendous fun for new players. Everyone is on a similar footing mu-wise. I think that says something about the merits of a limited mu-bracket for matches.
TL;DR: I cast my vote for limited mu-brackets. |

I have played competitive sports since I was a boy, and nothing is worse than unfair teams, when they could be fair. Once they are fair, then it's still up the players to play their heart out and win. Doesn't this approach simply lead to the high-mu players on each temp roflstomping the low-mu players on the other team? Or are we relying on high-mu players on each side feeling brotherly love and protecting their low-mu teammates?
Consider a football (soccer) match: on each side you have five premiership players, and six primary school children. Those are balanced teams. Now, put up a significant prize for winning; enough to overcome the premiership players' desire to sacrifice their own enjoyment for the kids.
How much do those school children learn?
Almost nothing, probably. Those primary school children might learn a lot from playing with others who are 2 or 3 years older than them, but what they'll see from those professionals will simply look like magic. You learn lots by competing against people a bit better than you; you learn nothing from having your backside kicked in ways you can't even understand.
Why not divide the players into 3 mu-bands (low, medium and high), and divide the battles into 2 bands (basic and tough)? Put low and medium mu players into basic battles; put medium and high mu players into tough battles. This would leave all players fighting against 66% of the player-base (potentially), but the bottom third wouldn't have to fight the top third. The intermediates spend half their time at the top of the leaderboards in basics, and half at the bottom in toughs.
RF Gyro: 12.5% damage bonus; 10.5% rate of fire bonus
