Hey guys
So with Hotfix Charlie we trialed changing the sniper rifle crosshair. Please leave your feedback on the change in this thread.
Initial impressions point us to people not liking the change other than on the Tactical series of sniper rifles. At this stage, we would be looking to revert to the old crosshair on all sniper rifles other than the Tactical snipers, which would retain the new crosshair.

it is misleading that the circle is the same size on different zoom levels. moving targets are now easier to hit at range stationary targets require you to find the edges and guess at the center
the edge of the circle is a kill on moving targets, but the edge of the circle on a stationary target shows a red x for a hit but no damage to their suit.

In my opinion the new crosshair is great. I haven't found any issues with it and I have seen many smiper rifle kills on the kill feed than ever before.
In my opinion the right person to ask about the new crosshair is Nod keras. This guy is OP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qva5W-COGC8&list=PLDYupuoGmGBHUsyRK5HYxjFxSS84wP787&index=1

I like the new reticule, especially the color, it does not blend with anything, if at the end of the story you will revert the reticule please at least keep the color.
But there is a problem, the current reticule is better than the previous at short distance, within 300 meters the current reticule is perfect, outside 300 meters the previous reticule was better.
If you plan to increase the sniper rifle zoom in Delta there is no point to change the reticule, with a Thale's zoom level i've had no problem even with long shots (>500 meters), with other SR scopes long shots are a little more annoying than before, but still viable.

This sounds like reasonable thinking, the tactical scopes do seem to be better with the new scopes, and as a rule of thumb they seem to be more tactically deployable now.
but the charge rifle is awful with the new scope so please change it on those. thanks |

I'm not a sniper, but what I seem to be getting from the community is that for longer-range snipers like the charge/thales, the dot was better, while the shorter range snipers benefit more from the circle.
So...the tactical would make sense to keep the circle, since it's definitely more of a shorter-range high firing weapon (unlike other tactical weapons which usually fire slower...I'd rename it to the assault sniper lol)

Can't we just have the two reticules available in the options menu of the neocom? Something like a toggle between the two under controls?
I'd prefer this rather than outright removing it from other snipers, and both parties can be happy.
My apologies if I come off as an elitist, but I try to view things objectively, logically, and factually.

Why do you say this? The charge feels greatly powerful (but not overly so) with the new scope. Perhaps its a preference issue, but perhaps we could have it as an option somewhere (dunno how easy that is to program). |

I like the new sniper riffle crosshair. But i think, it is a necessary for sniper to modulate the zoom.
A zoom as the Ishukune, an other as the Thale and I think an other with more precision. |

I hate the circle, its like the circle in the hmg, your shot scatter inside that circle, sniper rifle is suppose to be about precision, bring back that dot, your wasting the awesomeness of my charge sniper rifle.
if your going to insist on that god damn circle, buff the power for the sniper rifle, make 300x on the headshot not 175x, the body shot retain to 90x, if this is not possible, bring back that dot.

Love the new scope but still hate the inability to change zoom in battle without switching rifles. Can designate the melee button to toggle between settings while aiming down scope. I hate it when I'm trying to aim then suddenly I swing my fist cause I was pressing down too hard on the stick. |

I use the charge sniper rifle mostly and the current reticule needs to be changed back to the dot for this. I agree that it works ok for the tactical versions. Please also look at damage output (at least for headshots) its frustrating to not be able to kill a Heavy on a rooftop, when you have hit them with an entire clip, when my purpose in squad is to keep the high places clear, although I think that this might also have to do with a "false" hit registering so it looks like Im hitting him when Im actually not. Thanks for looking at the Sniper Rifles ! |

Can you try changing it to the HMG sight dot? A dot is preferable to a circle and a smaller dot more so than a larger one. |

So uh, I decided to do a bit more messing around and I think I might have found our option C.
(I'll update the OP to include these)
So now here's the question. Keep the current one on any variants, use this new one on certain variants, or revert to the old one on some variants.
(For those wondering, the dot in the centre is smaller than the old dot, and the crosshair only lights up when the dot in the middle is over a target)

UPDATE: So I went and did some more mad science and I came up with these as a third option:

Thoughts on these as replacement for some or all of the current sniper crosshairs?
Run with it logibro! good deduction:) an threads or hints of Hotfix Delta? got some suggestions for it! |

Pretty!
Love that it fixes the circle's "false positive" problem (red crosshairs, missed shot). Can you by chance show us what it looks like at 200+ meters?

Interesting..
Smaller dot would allow for even more precision..
However..
You might lose track of it on daytime maps easier.. With the additional lines you may end up cluttering up your view from long range..
(It looks nice this time I'll give you that)
I'm still on board for selling multiple variants for each sniper rifle with the different reticles.
This would make EVERYONE HAPPY.

Is it possible to mix the old dot sight with the new circle sight? Concentric circles are something that the human eye does pretty well with.

It's easy enough to push the extra lines on the crosshair further away from the dot. if that's a concern. Losing track of the dot on daytime maps is also a concern I have, but hopefully the extra lines should help point you to where it should be.

Like again, it looks good..
Just imagine tracking a target moving on a rooftop.. from left to right.. you line up for a head shot..
but the horizontal lines are partially obscuring your view..
(or imagine "more lines" when you're trying to focus one guy surrounded by his buddies.. think 1 logi 3 heavies)
I really don't like clutter.
Thanks for the reply.
How about offering multiple variations of the guns for sale with each of the reticles?
Is this not a possibility?

Technically a possibility, but it would seriously clutter up the market. I'm fine with having different crosshair types for the different variants of sniper rifles (as they need to be different guns anyway) but adding different types just for the crosshair is something I'm not a real fan of doing.
On another note, how does this look? Like I was saying, I can push out the size a bit for the extra lines

Thanks for the snapshot, Logibro!
I personally love the new crosshair, and I'd love to see it in game. Though I must defer to Symbiotic's expertise on the subject. For every opponent I've sniped, Symbiotic has likely sniped 1000.
Edit: I like the image in Post #29 as well. Very little clutter :-)
