Dear Community
I would like to request your assistance in coming up with tips/hints that could ease our new players journey into DUST 514. Not just for brand new players, but also simple "aha, moments"
Our intent is to then use these tips, at least on the Launcher News, maybe in game News, even the first emails a player gets, newsletter, wherever it might help.
I even think some simple Lore tidbit would be fun, for example, racial fitting styles, some information on the NPC corps (I am always intrigued by the Kaalakiota, Gurista, Six Kin but they are a mystery to non-EVE players), same with Breach, Tactical etc.
Let me kick off a few, any help on this is appreciated but the community, game masters and myself are working on a solid list, and appreciate any help you can give. Basically a keyword and a little explanation, in one or two sentences. I.e.:
1) Battlefinder: Public Contracts are a great place to start for new players and old while Factional Warfare may warrant caution for less seasoned players
2) Equipment: You can equip ammo and armor replenishing Nanohives for you and your teammates
3) Weapon: The Mass Driver fires explosive rounds in an arc, much like a modern day Grenade Launcher
4) Weapon: The Laser Rifle fires a continuous beam that increases in damage over time, but overheats
5) Dropsuits: Heavy Frames are the only Dropsuits that can equip the powerful Forge Guns and Heavy Machine Guns
5) Dropsuits: Light Frames are the fastest Dropsuits
6) Dropsuits have slots for weapons, equipment, high modules, low modules and grenades. The slot layout can be very different per Dropsuit and Race.
7) Dropsuits have two types of limited energy reserves, CPU and PG. Weapons, equipment, modules, weapons and grenades use variable amounts of CPU and PG.
Thanks!

- Drop uplinks provide a place for your teammates to spawn if their clones are terminated. Be sure to place them in safe, well-hidden locations.
- The rail rifle is a powerful, long range light weapon, but it has a short charge up time before it begins firing. This reduces it's effectiveness in close-quarters combat.

Skills have diminishing returns so try and spend accordingly. The SP needed for the final 3% increase in weapon damage could be used to get a 15-20% increase to dropsuit shields or armor (didn't do the math, but we all see what I'm getting at).

Tip 1. BUY EVERYTHING IN THE MILITIA STORE 20 to 50 copies every weapon every militia dropsuit every mod.and 5 copies of every militia vehicle. 2 Now that you have those dropsuits make heavy suits with militia forge and hmg. 3 Make a lot of suits and try different weapons before spending skill points. |

Rail Rifle: Hold the trigger to 'pre-charge' as you're walking around a corner to begin firing as soon as you exit cover.
Scrambler Rifle: Quickly fire once more after firing a fully charged shot to apply a 'double-tap' without overheating.
Defensive Fighting: Don't run immediately when taking damage, your suit might be able to shrug it off.
Nanite Injector: Clear an area of hostiles before reviving a friendly to prevent unnecessary deaths.
Remote Explosives: Place a remote explosive on the ceiling just inside of a door frame to help conceal it.
Spatial Awareness: Your minimap has an 'N' to mark where North is. Get a feel for what direction this is early in the match to improve your awareness and communication with your team.

Scanning is shared between squad members. Heavy dropsuits are easier to detect whilst light suits are more difficult. Keep your eyes open for scouts.
Heavy machine guns are devastating at short range but can be defeated at longer ranges. |

20.000 is a long, long, long time. My personal worry has been that it is to monotonous due to the map selection being limited. That's why we doubled the WP limit only when we had added racial rifles to each starter fit, and militia market.
With militia sidearms and some more starting inventory we are designing, increasing the WP limit is definitely something we would consider because the players are exposed to more of DUST's versatility and deep customization. It also makes griefalts able to do their dirty work in the academy for far too long. That's why we need a total kills or some such additional threshold.
Why 20k WP? I have studied this data at length and there is no clear cutoff WP that is optimal. 2400 WP is my estimate of the average player playing approximately 10 battles. Doubling that in Hotfix Delta is something that will probably happen.

Is there really a purpose in attempting to identify Pirate factions like the Gurista's...... no content related to them in in the core game......
And at this point aligning themselves with and learning about the Gurista's is impossible considering players are still under the impression greated by CCP's biased (heavily politically Eurocentric) footnotes that the Gallente and Minmatar are "Good Guys" with no faults.
I'll certainly contribute but lets not get ahead of ourselves......

This way s¦¦c¦¦r¦¦u¦¦b¦¦s¦¦ new players can re-enter the academy if they feel public contracts are too difficult don't have to wait inordinate amounts of time to have access to public contracts but because of the cap vets can't just stomp the academy.

7K at least then, your average is made up of players who are so easy to kill that they need more time in the Academy before being thrown into a pack of animals. Go make new characters and enter the academy to see for yourself.

-Orbital strikes are earned by joining a squad and collectively accruing [orbital value] of warpoints among all the squad members - squad leaders are responsible for calling and targeting a strike. In faction warfare / planetary conquest, orbital strikes are provided by pilots in eve and any squad-leader may attempt to target them, in these modes they function on three minute timers, independent of warpoints.
-Nanite injectors are a great way to earn a bit of warpoints by saving a teammates suit and a clone, but don't run out into enemy fire for that [wp value]. It's likely to just get yourself and the ally you were attempting to help killed... and make them sad, or angry.
-Drop uplinks are a great way to control a battle as they shorten reinforcement lines, a well placed uplink not only helps your team, but will also generate you quite a bit of warpoints!
-Shooting or otherwise attempting to get your allies in trouble in faction warfare is rude. Don't do it.
-Don't steal allied vehicles. If a player was kind enough to give you a ride somewhere respect that by hopping out of their vehicles and otherwise leaving them alone.
-If you're in a vehicle, don't shoot the turrets unless you actually have targets, doing otherwise can give your location away to enemy vehicles or players equipped with anti-vehicle weapons.

Can we add some hints and tips about the social chat channels and their in game interface? For the longest time, when I was a noob I had no idea what all those windows on the right-hand side were for. Something like:
- Find like-minded Mercs in your neocom's chat channels. Socialise, form squads and strategise with corp mates.
Lastly, on a related (but off topic) note: is it possible to have a chat channel that represents your contacts list? So you can easily see your in game buddies and form squads with them? We can call this chat channel "contacts". It would be a lot more useful than the "local" channel that I never use for example.
