Honestly, I'd love to see some of these as hints that are shown during loading screens...but I'm guessing it's not just as simple as adding these bits of text to a line of code...but anyways, here's my ideas:
Marketplace: There's a section in the marketplace named "militia" There you can try out almost all vehicles, suits, and weapons in the game before you spend your skill points.
Equipment: The repair tool is a medgun that allows you to lock onto your allies and repair their health back.
Dropsuits: The Logistics suit is geared for carrying multiple types of equipment onto the battlefield to support your team.
Game Mechanics: In Dust 514, you earn passive sp at the rate of 1000 sp/hr even when you're not playing. Make sure to come back and spend your sp!
Community: Pressing the select button opens up the main chat interface where you can join chat channels, organize squads, find a corporation, or even just chat with other players! Some active chat channels are: (Insert a few popular chat channels like Dust University's public channel, faction channels, etc)
Installations: The supply depot is a hackable object that resupplies ammo, and allows you to switch to a different fitting even in the middle of battle. Is there a tank nearby? Head to the supply depot and switch to an anti-vehicle fitting!
Hint: Having an abundant supply of equipment on your team is key to success; however, making sure that your enemy can't have that advantage is also important. Explosive weapons like the mass driver, flaylock pistol, and flux grenades are great for taking out multiple equipment at once.

Our intent is to then use these tips, at least on the Launcher News, maybe in game News, even the first emails a player gets, newsletter, wherever it might help.
I even think some simple Lore tidbit would be fun, for example, racial fitting styles, some information on the NPC corps (I am always intrigued by the Kaalakiota, Gurista, Six Kin but they are a mystery to non-EVE players), same with Breach, Tactical etc.
Let me kick off a few, any help on this is appreciated but the community, game masters and myself are working on a solid list, and appreciate any help you can give. Basically a keyword and a little explanation, in one or two sentences. I.e.:
1) Battlefinder: Public Contracts are a great place to start for new players and old while Factional Warfare may warrant caution for less seasoned players
2) Equipment: You can equip ammo and armor replenishing Nanohives for you and your teammates
3) Weapon: The Mass Driver fires explosive rounds in an arc, much like a modern day Grenade Launcher
4) Weapon: The Laser Rifle fires a continuous beam that increases in damage over time, but overheats
5) Dropsuits: Heavy Frames are the only Dropsuits that can equip the powerful Forge Guns and Heavy Machine Guns
5) Dropsuits: Light Frames are the fastest Dropsuits
6) Dropsuits have slots for weapons, equipment, high modules, low modules and grenades. The slot layout can be very different per Dropsuit and Race.
7) Dropsuits have two types of limited energy reserves, CPU and PG. Weapons, equipment, modules, weapons and grenades use variable amounts of CPU and PG.
Thanks! Start by increasing WP requirement to leave Academy to at least 20,000 WP and then we may talk. 20.000 is a long, long, long time. My personal worry has been that it is to monotonous due to the map selection being limited. That's why we doubled the WP limit only when we had added racial rifles to each starter fit, and militia market. With militia sidearms and some more starting inventory we are designing, increasing the WP limit is definitely something we would consider because the players are exposed to more of DUST's versatility and deep customization. It also makes griefalts able to do their dirty work in the academy for far too long. That's why we need a total kills or some such additional threshold. Why 20k WP? I have studied this data at length and there is no clear cutoff WP that is optimal. 2400 WP is my estimate of the average player playing approximately 10 battles. Doubling that in Hotfix Delta is something that will probably happen.
Ten games is no where near enough. What is the thought behind this? When I talk to new players I encourage them to run through academy multiple times. Make a clone, activate passive, then leave it alone. Make second and third clones, take them through academy spending SP on whatever interest them, then once out of academy transfer ISK to their primary and biomass the clone. Do this three or 4 times until they have a basic understanding of the game mechanics.
I would suggest raising the academy to MUCH higher. More along the lines of 100k or a good weeks worth of play before letting them loose in public matches. Or, like someone else suggested, give them the option to stay in academy or leave after 20k. Give them time to enjoy the game and get hooked before throwing them to the wolves and quit the first night.
Then, after graduating from academy, automatic skill respec.

Tip: the most important data was never included in-game because of a mix between incompetence, lack of care for their work, and CCP's amazing management skill. Check the forums for things such as: Weapon range and headshot multipliers. Passive scan range, passive scan precision, dropsuit scan profile values are not displayed after modules and skills that modify them are applied. And which modules have stacking penalties and which don't.

Only probably better worded, or more in depth depending on the skill being mentioned.

to be honest this a good effort to help new players get into the game however it won't make them stay i suggest raising starting sp to 1m and remove the 250k starting isk(to prevent the pathetic butthurts from creating a character and stomping the academy and farming isk).
on to my tips/hints :
Dropsuit upgrades boost your suits base stats and is recommended to be skilled into first.
Guides to each weapon and suit can be found on rookie training grounds on the dust 514 forums.
most modules have stacking penalties be sure to keep this in mind when creating your fit
make multiple fits for differing designated roles ie medic, slayer, av
vehicles require a lot of sp to be used at a competitive level be sure to test the militia versions before investing
Large rail turrets primarily serve as long range av, secondary use to infantry, large missile turrets serve as close range av, secondary use to infantry, Large blaster turrets primarily serve as close range infantry, secondary use to av

Before you spend a lot of skillpoints on a weapon its probably better to spend your skillpoints on dropsuit command or dropsuit upgrade skills that will allow you to fit more or better defensive modules!

- Want stronger Combat Rifles, Mass Drivers, or Swarm Launchers?
Minmatar Commando Dropsuits have a skill which increases it's bonus by 2% per level, with a max of 10% at Level 5.
- Want stronger Rail Rifles or Sniper Rifles?
Caldari Commando Dropsuits have a skill which increases it's bonus by 2% per level, with a max of 10% at Level 5.
- Want stronger Assault Rifles or Plasma Cannons?
Gallente Commando Dropsuits have a skill which increases it's bonus by 2% per level, with a max of 10% at Level 5.
Amarr Commando Dropsuits have a skill which increases it's bonus by 2% per level, with a max of 10% at Level 5.
- Not every weapon deals the amount of damage that's listed on it's statistics. Each weapon has a specific damage profile which alters how much damage a weapon does to Shields or Armor.
- Squad Up!
Joining squads improves your chances of victory, and allows you to meet new friends as well. Also, it's always nice to have someone watching your back when those pesky Scouts arrive.
- In a jam?
If you find yourself being chased by a Medium or Heavy Frame, turn the corner and lay a Remote Explosive near the corner. As soon as the enemy steps over it, detonate the Explosive and they'll die. Though watch out, as they may see the explosive and shoot it.
- Enemies jampacked together?
If you find that enemies are staying close to each-other, use a Mass Driver to scatter them, and kill the ones who stay. You can purchase a MLT Mass Driver in the Market Place under Militia Gear > Weapons
- Need to heal an ally?
Repair Tools give you the ability to repair the Armor of an ally. These are useful for giving someone an extra boost during firefights, and patching them up afterwards. These give you WP based on how fast you repair an ally. The faster your Repair Tool's HP/s, the faster you receive WP.
- Out of ammo?
If you run out of ammo, use a Nanohive to replenish your ammunition. If you find that this happens often, you can upgrade Ammunition skills on your weapon to increase the amount of Ammo you have.
- Has a Teammate fallen?
If your teammate is downed, you can revive them by using a Nanite Injector. Though be sure that there are no enemies nearby when you do so.
- Tired of people sneaking up on you?
If you are a Scout, then use Range Amplifiers to increase your Dropsuit's passive Scan Radius. if you aren't a scout, use an Active Scanner to detect where enemies are, even through walls. Though you'll need to use better Scanners to deal with dampened enemies.
- Tired of being scanned?
If you find yourself being scanned, then use Profile Dampeners. They decrease your Dropsuit's Scan Profile, which allows you to evade Scanners.
- Shield Recharge too low?
You can use Shield Rechargers and Shield Energizers to increase your Shield Regeneration rate. Though the Energizers yield far more HP/s than the Rechargers, they drain a portion of your Shield HP as well.
- Dropsuit too slow?
If you find that your Dropsuit is too slow for your desire, use a Kinetic Catylizer to increase your Sprint Speed. if you need, you may also use Cardiac Regulators to increase your Stamina Pool and Stamina Regeneration Rate.
- Minmatar Dropsuits
Minmatar Dropsuits, prefer High Speeds over High HP. While they have the lowest HP of any dropsuits, they have the fastest regeneration rates as well
- Caldari Dropsuits
Caldari Dropsuits, prefer High Shield HP and Regeneration. While they aren't as beefy as Armored Dropsuits, they do have a substantial amount of Shields, and a high Regeneration rates as well.
- Gallente Dropsuits
Gallente Dropsuits, prefer Fast Armor Regeneration over HP. While they may have lower HP than the Amarr, they do have higher Armor Regeneration rates in comparison.
- Amarr Dropsuits
Amarr Dropsuits, prefer High HP over High Speed. While they are the slowest Dropsuits in the game, they also have the Highest HP in the game.
- Need more equipment?
Logistics Dropsuits allow you to carry multiple equipment slots, while also increasing the efficiency of your equipment. This is great for those who wish to support your team.
- Want 2 Weapons?
Commando Dropsuits allow you to wield 2 Light Weapons at once, making this the perfect option for AV users or those who wish to increase their diversity on the battlefield
- Want to be invisible?
Scout Dropsuits allow you to wield a cloak, which makes you semi-invisible based on how fast your moving. Keep in mind however, that you're never completely invisible
I know I missed some, but I'll be back soon.

I believe new players already get x10 LAVs, which is plenty to learn to call in vehicles. Although I don't know if they are already "pre-fitted" and available immediately, or if you need to "create" a vehicle fitting first?
If available immediately, it should be enough with simple tips how to call them in.
- "Vehicles: You can call in your personal vehicles by pressing right on the D-Pad, and selecting "Vehicles""
- "Vehicles: Only the vehicle owner can enter a vehicle for the first 5 seconds after being called in, and only squad members for the first 15 seconds". (Note: I am a little unsure about the times).

I would propose CCP Rattati update the Dust 514 User Manual to 1.8 status (preferably hotfixes as well), and include them in there in relevant places? The manual needs updating anyway.
There should also be a in-game tip on how to find and download the manual. |

7K at least then, your average is made up of players who are so easy to kill that they need more time in the Academy before being thrown into a pack of animals. Go make new characters and enter the academy to see for yourself. If you want to get out of the academy early join a squad through the squad finder...

Weapons:
Assault Rifle: This is a short range, medium rate of fire weapon that is good against shielded targets.
Combat Rifle: This is a medium range, high rate of fire weapon that does slightly more damage to armor than shields.
Scrambler Rifle: This is a medium range semi-auto weapon that does more damage to shields and has a devastating charged shot. Be careful not to cause it to overheat.
Laser Rifle: This is a long range weapon that fires in a continuous beam. It does high damage to shields, does not function well at short ranges, and can overheat.
Rail Rifle: This is a long range low rate of fire weapon that does much more damage to armor than shields. It has to spool up before firing so bursts are recommended.
Sniper Rifle: This is a long range weapon with a low rate of fire.
Weapon Sub Types:
Breach: Breach weapons have lower rates of fire than other variants but make up for this by having higher per shot damage. Breach weapons also have slightly smaller magazines than assault weapons.
Assault: Assault weapons have higher rate of fire than other variants and as a result have lower per shot damage.
Burst: Burst weapons have higher range than other varients and fire three shot bursts for each trigger pull.
Tactical: These weapons are semi-automatic meaning each time you pull the trigger a single shot is fired. Generally these weapons have longer ranges and do more damage to make up for their lack of full auto. Tactical weapons have much smaller magazines than assault weapons.
Grenades:
Flux: These grenades are perfect for taking out equipment and stripping the shields off shield tankers. Warning! Remote explosives destroyed with flux grenades will still explode potentially killing you or a team mate.
Locus: This is a standard anti-infantry grenade. They can be used to destory equipment but their smaller blast radius makes them less effective at this than flux grenades.
AV: Homing anti-vehicle grenades.
Grenade Varients:
Packed: These do more damage but do not track vehicle targets as well.
Contact: These grenades explode on impact.
Sleek: These grenades can be thrown farther in exchange for lower damage.

Hints for using remote explosives:
1) Remote explosives cannot be detonated for several seconds after being deployed.
2) Placing remote explosives on, or near, objectives allows you to potentially stop enemies from capturing a point even after you have run away.
3) Set the remote explosive by pushing R1 and detonate it by pressing L1
4) Remote explosives will stick to surfaces and vehicles but not infantry. Try placing them in surprising locations so your enemy doesn't shoot them.
5) Remote explosives are effective at destroying tanks when deployed on the rear of the tank between the treads. You will need at least 3 remotes in this location to kill a tank.
6) Remote explosives can be concealed by placing another piece of equipment on top of them. Try stacking an uplink on top of your remote. You just might get a kill when someone trys to destroy it.
7) Place remotes then try to lure infantry into them. This is a great way to kill a heavily armored target.
8) Some infantry targets have enough hitpoints that 2 remote explosives will be required to kill them.

Hints for using proximity mines:
1) Each type of proximity mine has its own max number you can place at a given time. This means that you can put out the max number of each kind (3 basic, 4 advanced, and 5 prototype) at a given time.
2) You can place even more proximity mines if you also use the aurum varients.
3) Always place your proximity mines in large numbers at choke points. They don't do as much damage as remotes so you need to force vehicles to drive over as many of them at a time as is possible.
4) While remotes will not detonate when infantry run over them they can be shot causing them to explode. This means you can be killed by a stray bullet while laying out your mine field.
5) In Factional Warfare matches and Planetary Conquest matches proximity mines will detonate your own remote explosives. This means that by surrounding a single proximity mine with three remote explosives you can create small anti tank/lav patches in large numbers.
6) Proximity mines can be hidden under other equipment. An enemy shooting that equipment will cause the proximity mine to explode potentially killing said enemy. Note: heavy frames generally have enough hitpoints to survive a single proximity mines explosion.
7) Vehicle drives who are moving cautiously can hear proximity mines beeping. Place your mines in areas vehicles are either likely to be focused on other things, or are likely to be moving quickly to prevent them from destroying your mines.

None of this really matters if the player community is taking care of it for you. By that I mean... YOUR VOICE COMMUNICATIONS IN THIS GAME SUCK SO HARD THAT THEY ARE CAUSING YOUR NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE TO FAIL HORRIBLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously! Fix the voice comms so that they are actually the default method of communication in this game and then old players will want to help new players. Veterans will share the tips and tricks with the average players to make them better etc.
Right now all the voice comms get used for are a bunch of idiots complaining about how OP that guys's gun is or why the other team has too many tanks. Either that or I hear babies crying, parents yelling at kids, police sirens in the background etc. Make your PTT the default and make it possible to PTT while dead and in menus. Because having no COMMS DISCIPLINE contributes to the uselessness of the current state of the voice comms.
Create a tiered method of comms so that squads can talk to one another, but squad leaders can still communicate also.
Make sure that new players know that voice comms are key to winning an that they should use them all the time!
Show the name of who is currently talking at the top of the screen!
All these things and so much more...

Some really going points here but also to note:
- I think you should adequately describe the dropsuit layout in relation not only to CPU/PG but what area in the actual fitting screen is considered the high slots, low slots, etc. Then expand upon that to say certain modules can fit in those spots. Give an example of each so it encourages the player to read up on those items for the benefit
- suggest starter items to place in those slots for some benefits (you have them already on the suit, but it doesn't encourage them to understand what they are and what they do for the player and their suit. this might help newer players realize that proto suits by themselves don't help you win. The extra pg/cpu on that suit to fit proto modules is what actually helps you win).
- while we're on that, really revamp some of these descriptions. They need more input to clearly state what they do. I can't tell you how many times 'what exactly does scan precision do?' get asked over and over again
- put effective ranges on all weaponry please
- please, please, please explain to new players the information readout that displays when you put your crosshairs on an enemy. this by itself could really effect how a new player approaches their enemies and cut down on the rage quitting. If they are explained that readout, they might start to understand that trying to shoot someone over 150m away with an SMG might be a bad idea (weapon ranges and efficiency) and also would start smarter game play so they won't try to flank a proto armor stacked heavy with over 1000ehp in their militia starter fit and expect to win because of other game past experience.

Grenades take 24 nanites to resupply at a nanohive, Av grenades take 32! Health restoring nanohives take 2 nanites everytime they restore health. Ammo restoring nanohives take 1 nanite if they restore less than 15% ammo, or two if they restore more than 15%
