As some of you may be aware I am winding down my in-game activities for the time being in order to focus my efforts on RL. Now that said I will also take this opportunity to focus my efforts on finishing out my CPM0 term as well. As this time I have no plans to run for CPM1, but I have a few goals that I will continue to press for moving forward.
First, I will continue to push CCP to be open with you all about future Dust 514 development. With recent discussions I feel that CCP is working actively towards this goal. I will be reserved in my expectations, but I feel that with the right direction CCP can improve not only the Dust experience but use that improved experience to the benefit of Project Legion as well. Even if the bandwidth avail to Dust has been decreased there is so much that can still be accomplished.
Second, in order to bring clarity to the future I will continue working with the community on the #greenlightlegion campaign so that all of the players can have confidence that Duster experience in New Eden will have a future for many years and decades to come. This will also include working with CCP to retrospectively look at the Project Legion announcement, acknowledge the mistakes, and learn where to improve moving forward so that transparency, openness, and a strong relationship with the community can become a mantra that CCP lives by.
Third, I will continue to advocate for the CPM1 elections to be held ASAP. In my opinion this was our primary mandate as CPM-and while the white papers were a great step in that direction I cannot and will not rest until you are able to cast your votes for your representatives. The Dust 514 community is here and deserves a voice and a chance to continue the process of building a working relationship with CCP and the community.
Forth, I had some very important conversations with players like Aeon about the need for the ISD to have a presence in Dust and far into the future. These conversations turned into impromptu face-to-face discussions with CCP Rouge, CCP TIme Runner, and CCP Saberwing that then led to some positive movements in the Sunday summit meeting. I see many areas where ISD or ISD-like institutions can help be a force multiplier for both the community and for CCP. Players have been trying for years to establish an ISD presence in Dust and it's time that their dedication and hard work be taken seriously. I will do what I can to identify any barriers blocking this from moving forward and work with CCP to not only identify solutions but act boldly on those solutions moving forward.
Last, I am committed to advocating for the preservation of Dust 514 players' financial and time investments into New Eden and will continue to press CCP to be open an honest about the transfer process moving forward with Project Legion. My personal feelings are that all aspects of our characters should be preserved as much as possible in a way that doesn't hinder Game Design in realizing the vision of Dust 514 through Project Legion. As part of this future vision I will also continue to advocate strongly that throughout the development process of Project Legion that CCP always consider a future on the PS4.
One of the reasons I decided become CPM was that I fell in love with this community and I wanted to see it have an elected voice. What happened with Legion at FanFest broke my heart, but sticking my head in the sand or telling CCP to shove it does nothing but satisfy base desires for recompense. There is more work to do than ever for the CPM and that will be my focus. Please understand that actions in-game are just that and my task as a CPM councilor is something I approach as a real life task as David. Whether you love me or hate me in-game I will advocate for you as best I can and push forward to continue to make CPM 1 a reality and ensure that the Dust 514 community is heard.

You as well. I only wish the community could truly understand the invaluable asset that you have been to the community through CPM as our secretary. 90% of what you have done will never be seen by the community, but I have seen your hard work and will do my best to honor what you have done for us all.

Snark.
If you're taking a break or winding down, there's no need for some grandiose speech. People take breaks, Everyone on the CPM has had to take one at some point or another during these last "3 months".
However, I cannot excuse the tone of this post, and I need to call Bull when I see it, whether it is from CCP or one of my fellow councilbros (and I expect them to do the same for me. This post is basically summed up as "Look at all the great **** that Kane is doing and wants to do" and makes it seem like he's the only one pushing for any of this or having any of these conversations. This post is a great summary of everything the entire CPM did at fanfest and are doing now, However.
The CPM is a team sport. Self-serving, "champion of the people" acts are ill-suited for the position. The unfortunate truth is that the when the real truth is being hidden by the NDA, the only public truth is the one that is spoken. This makes posts like Kane's OP dangerous as it skews the and diminishes (intentionally or not) the efforts and actions of his fellow Councilbros by drawing singular attention to himself and tying these actions to himself, not the whole group.
I wish I could echo IWS' sentiments, and while it is true that during Fanfest and Councilbro meetings everyone is blue.. The rest of the time, that is pretty much null and void. Kane is completely dependant on public attention (good or bad) and at best he could be described as a mindless parrot regurgitating the opinions of those he speaks to who are much more intelligent than he is... even if he doesn't fully understand those opinions. This has led to him rapidly changing position on key issues throughout the year, to the point where he even argues against his own points when one turns around and switches perspectives. Many people have accused him of being self-serving and using internal knowledge to benefit himself. These accusations are entirely false. (At least to my knowledge, but I have no reason to suspect otherwise) That being said, I would be lying if I said we as a council have not had to smack down some pretty selfish proposals in the past.
I won't say he hasn't done good stuff as a councilbro, as working together we have all done some excellent stuff. But I will not sit by and let him try to sell himself as a hero of the people when he has been anything but. If he spent less time looking for gratification and trying to seem space-important, he'd be able to do a lot more good.
Just saying.

Ok. I know I'm not privy to the internal politics of the CPM but that seemed overly harsh Nova and certainly not something that should be aired publicly without imternal dialogue.
Maybe Kane should've run the wording past the rest of you first but I personally got no great sense of self-aggrandisement from the OP. Merely that someone was stepping down for personall reasons.
Perhaps Kane merits the tongue lashing, maybe he doesn't. I've not worked with on a daily basis as you have Nova. But dragging the talk and tone of The War Room to The Council Chamber isn't really very seemly. Just my opinion you understand.

It pains me that I have to take the time to clarify a few things here, but such is necessary in cases like this.
First and foremost I'd like to echo Nova in that Kane's original post is indeed an excellent summary of the focal points of the council's current work. That said, the message Kane delivered should have been delivered as a group statement, rather than a personal one, as it inappropriately carried the implication that Kane was somehow alone in advocating for such things. For this I take personal responsibility. As CPM0 Chair, I should have worked with the group and produced a statement along these lines earlier, instead of allowing one of the council members to take personal credit and warp the message (whether intentional or not).
Secondly, regarding the claim that Kane's proposals were somehow selfish in nature, the same criticism could just as easily be leveled at me for advocating for Faction Warfare fixes given my history with that particular sub-community. The reality is that all proposals that are good for the game as a whole will align with personal interests of council members from time to time, and this both normal and perfectly acceptable.
Lastly, while anyone (including Nova Knife) is entitled to an extremely cynical view of Kane's motivations, there was absolutely nothing constructive or respectful about lashing out at Kane publicly here, except for (ironically) to get an equal amount of kudos from gawkers who delight in controversy.
We're all human of course, and under an immense amount of fatigue and stress. However, both the original statement and the subsequent response here represent poor judgement on behalf of the council as a whole, and for that I take full responsibility as well. I've spoken again to the group about the importance of teamwork especially during tough times, and I can only hope that prospective CPM1 candidates can learn from our mistakes and behave more professionally in the future. |
