problem with PC is that the prices differ from country to country some people say that you can build a cheap gaming pc for about $450-$500, convert that to the currency where i am and you're looking at about R4500-R5000 and with that amount of money you can't even buy a decent gaming pc, thats just enough for a office pc.
and depending on the system requirements for Legion, the price for a PC might just go up.
a decent gaming pc for us here in south africa will cost about R8000-R10 000 which is equivalent to $800-$1000.
now if i had to buy a decent gaming PC just to play Legion if its system requirements are high i might as well just buy a ps4 which is much cheaper (about R6000 = $600)
i CAN afford a gaming PC but i WONT spend such a high amount of cash just to play 1 game and surf the web when most games these days are coming to the console anyways. maybe for those who live somewhere else and pc's are cheaper then good for you.

I admit it ooks like the thread went rampant with PC vs PS3 arguments, but it stems from the desire of players here who want to show that there are advantages to moving the concept of DUST to a different development environment, and that the hardware is not a roadblock.
I downsized to a $400 laptop from a tower a couple of years ago to accommodate my lifestyle and it still has the capacity to game. I spent the same amount on a PS3 to play a select few titles, but primarily as a Blu-ray player. I don't think it was a bad investment at the time, and I know that both will have an end to their life cycle.
This thread (and the forum) is filled with passionate people who just want their stories to be heard, and that's ok.

1. That is not a counter-point. You can spend 140 USD to have a controller with programmable turbo and maybe a few functions (that fail more often than they work) or you can buy a PC rig that will not have any framterate issues, along with bots that are about a million time ssmarter than a controller. That is not even close to comparible. Next.
2. GPUs cot as much as consoles typically, The 9800 GT has trouble with some games that the PS3 plays, and that is 3 generations newer than the PS3. While a 7870 has about the same specs, it will not be able to keep up with a PS4, as history has shown us again and again. Next.
3. NVidia shield is not-upgradable, and it is android. Next.
4. PCs ARE less portable, and ARE NOT as sturdy, are you really trying to say otherwise? I have a colecovision that works just fine. It has gone through 3 generations of KIDS and is still fine.
Also, this entire post is just another good example of why you should be ejected from REPRESENTING CONSOLE GAMERS ON A CONSOLE GAME. You are a PCmasteracist.
1. A PS3 player with an older model PS3 upgraded the HDD to a SSD with excessively fast data rates. This hard drive can run up to 100-400 usd depending on the vendor specs and size. This player experiences a massive relative boosts to loading speeds and gets on average 5-15 seconds field time over more modern models (which has a data governor of sorts purposely to try to keep it fair) or those who cannot be bothered to sink that much more money on that system.

You know what is awesome about having family members and upgrading computers? doing hand me downs. My computer is still in my family though in all separate parts. The parts that comprised the first computer I built by myself was sold to an old couple who only needed it for emails.

Or maybe you need to understand my history a bit more. 1. A PS3 player with an older model PS3 upgraded the HDD to a SSD with excessively fast data rates. This hard drive can run up to 100-400 usd depending on the vendor specs and size. This player experiences a massive relative boosts to loading speeds and gets on average 5-15 seconds field time over more modern models (which has a data governor of sorts purposely to try to keep it fair) or those who cannot be bothered to sink that much more money on that system and I too consider it unfair but getting Sony to put in a software limiter for the older models is rather stupid fight. 2. Page 1 Results. 9800 GTX 34.00 400 gt for 54.99 610 gt for 59.99 Shop better... 3. Neither was the ps4; ps3, ps2, ps1, ps1/snes, snes, nes. 4. http://www.falcon-nw.com/desktops/fragboxSalt on wound factor http://oldcomputers.net/compaqiii.htmlthis is not even the oldest one I know of; model I worked once only had a printer output while it was in portable mode. Also most of those computers back there where highly upgradeable provided you had the right parts but those build in the standard 286 where generally not a problem. Most common request back then was replacing the 5 1/4 with the 3 1/2 drives. When you fix lots of computers you run into alot of weird things. Like one of these... http://www.minuszerodegrees.net/misc/5170_memory_board_512K.jpg took me forever to solder all of the chips off one of these before. Also NES original babysat me quite a bit. You know what is awesome about having family members and upgrading computers? doing hand me downs. My computer is still in my family though in all separate parts. The parts that comprised the first computer I built by myself was sold to an old couple who only needed it for emails. Lol, you have to be a teenager, no way an adult makes that post.
1) PS3 has a SATA 1 connector, this means that it is capped at around the transfer speeds of a modern 7200 RPM drive. There have been numerous TEST done by reliable sources, SSDs might sometimes provide a bit of a boost when loading, maybe. Depends on the game and the operation being performed by that game. There is no such thing as a 15 second difference in anything but installs. You are indeed limited to Sata 1 speeds on a PS#, any PS3.
2) How much was the 9800 GT when released? How much was the PS3 when the 9800 GT released... you see the point right? PS3 was 2 years old by the time the 9800 GT, at $300, finally ended up with graphics parity. The PS3 has a 7900 GS (basically) inside. The fact that you completely missed out on this point just shows how incredibly, unbelievably, atrociously thick headed you actually are.
3)Then why did you bring up the Nvidia shield?
4) Or you could have just linked to laptops, doesn';t change the fact that PCs as a whole are less portable, and less reliable on a WHOLE than consoles are.
Also, I think it is cute when you talk about upgradability. As soon as CPU sockets change over, well there goes your whole upgradability because you will be buying a new MB/CPU/RAM at the very least, you SHOULD be buying a new PSU as well. Yep, every 2-3 years sockets completely change, every 4-5 years Ram standards change, every 10 or so years EVERYTHING changes. PCs are not eternally upgradable.
Also, if you were older than a teen, you would realize having ANYONE know you can fix a computer is just a HUGE pain in the butt, that is of course unless you like being IT (for free no less) to everyone and their mom. People don't value technological knowledge like they do mechanical, and if you worked in a STEM field you would know this.
beyond any of this drivel..... aren't you supposed to be REPRESENTING PS3 OWNERS ON THEIR CONSOLE GAME???? Of course not, why would I think a teenager knew the first thing about responsibility.

2. Doesnt matter 9800gt is 50$ or less these days. A card that runs just about any current game coming out at console level graphics is about as much still; just pick the right vendor and chipset and have a good enough board to support it. Video Cards have the highest attrition rates and their starting prices bottom out amazingly fast. This can be blamed on production methods (they don't have to build a new factory for every new card unlike oh say a TV or console would) PS3 at launch was 500$ today an ultra slim runs you 200-300$
3. Consoles are not designed to be that portable though; a quick example is that if your ps3/xbox/wii been living its entire life as a horizontal; and you put it in a vertical you can easily kill it and we're not just talking about the optic drive. Also none of these things have handles or places to wrap up cords and the external on many of the models is the largest factor of non portability there is.
4. Odd consoles goes through the same issues. New Models even in the same year. Problem there? you have to buy a whole new console to upgrade and at that point you don't get any really increased performance. Maybe higher reliability and lighter weight or larger screen size. Since we're talking about PS3
CECH B CECH A Had flash card readers and wifi CHEH C / E 4 USB Ports; PS2 Emulators, SACD palyback, Linux Support, End of Gen 1 CHEH G / H / J / K / L / M / P / Q Reduction to 2 USB ports, End of Gen 2, End of Fatmans CHEH 20/21/25/30 A / B First fo the slims featuring Bravia sync xmb control, doubly truehd and dts- hd master audio bistreaming. Generation 3 died in this run and Gen 4 Started.
CHEH 40 A/B/C has a smaller foot print and is Generation 5.
Problem here? There is no way you can get a CHEC gen 1 to have any of the features of Gen 5.
So if you were an upgrade console fanatic (they exist its how I get free consoles) you just blew about 2.5k keeping up in pace of consoles.
As for upgrading computers; back of my hand; eyes stabbed out blind, certified Testout Computer Tech. My previous job fixing F-18s electrical systems in similar conditions.
Aren't you supposed to be complaining about issues with dust 514 instead of the hardware its on?

turn the graphics settings down, the only advantage in online gaming is your internet, your ping to the server relative to the person you're shooting at's ping.

I have had my PS3 for only a year longer than my PC, my PC will be able to play watch dogs, spend enough money and you can future-proof a machine for perhaps 5 years.

I'm starting to see more and more why people are questioning why IWS is representing us. This really showed it off if he's here talking like a pc elitist down on ps3 when that's what most of the Dust community prefer to run on. And changing of the position of the console never killed it, maybe possibly one of the early model 360s, but that's a whole other story behind the Red Ring of Death. Never heard of a ps3 croaking due to that let alone a Wii. Nintendo takes testing their systems to the extreme, like throwing it over a house, running it over with a vehicle. Nintendo might not get third party, but that understand durability.

Anyone who knows how to build, maintain, and understand the parts of a computer can prevent most of this.
You can bring your pc to your friends house. If your pc is built efficiently it should be around the same size of a console.
A good case will save hardware if dropped. Real good cases can go for about $80-$100.
I RARELY have to upgrade my computer. Oh no. my processor is a few years old time to overclock it. If I haven't already. Then there is nothing to worry about.

4. to fragile but this can be said for the xbox as well cause if your hit it while the game is running say good bye the that disk. i've drop my ps3 tons of times and it didn't even skip a beat now if a pc where to fall its all over time to to replace parts Anyone who knows how to build, maintain, and understand the parts of a computer can prevent most of this. Honestly my gaming rig is 8 years old and it runs titanfal. Not at full amazing graphics but it runs just fine. I have a old nvidia 9800gtx video card windows 7x64 and i think the cpu is a amd athelon 2 with 3 cores (4th unlocked via bios) O and about 16 gigs of ram because more is always better :)
Typically as long as everything is fully bolted down a small drop won't do much harm. The only components that migth get damaged from being dropped are the hard drive and the optical drives. They are the only things with moving parts that would be affected. The ram might pop out but it wouldnt be harmed unless its a really long drop. The PS3 uses a hard drive as well and honestly seeing how its mounted i would think that it would be even more susceptible to being broken by being dropped. Same with the optical drive. Honestly i hate how the ps3 is built it was clearly built with looks over function in mind. |

I swear I've never known anyone over the age of 15 to use a console. It is a kiddie machine and has been since computer games took off around 1995. I only just bought one last year for my kids and as an aside got to play this game.
This game was going to be on a PC and it was a silly idea to have ever turned to the console for a company like CCP. I hated having to even consider having to get a console to play it. If I was going to get a PS3 for this game then I was going to wait until it took off.
Now we see that was never going to happen. It was a pretty predictable outcome too.

This is a simple truth which is hard to accept for many. Was hard to accept it for me anyway. But I do seek the truth.

How are those Civilization games? Sim City 4? Total War: Shogun 2? Starcraft? LoL, Dota, TF2, Counterstrike? Oh wait, you can't play any of those incredible games. That's too bad. |

You can't get all those PS4 exclusives on PC either. Again, buy it all and be a real gamer.

Poor poor people. Locked out of that elite club of "real gamers" due to financial reasons.
And what about those who can't justify additional game expenditures due other, non-financial reasons? Yeah. They can't be in the "real gamer" club, either.
It really makes me proud to be among the few, the elite... the real gamers.

It's not hard to buy and build a $1500 rig, it just takes a little more work, (I got mine within a week with leftover money for games, and that wasn't even out of my regular income). 2: I've had my PC for 3/2 years, and it is still stronger than the PS4...... I call bullshit. 3: It's called a mini rig with a split screen game. Wait, who would seriously like to play split screen? it was lame back then, and it's still lame now. 4: if you have it at a place where it won't fall, then maybe it won't get damaged? All I see is ****** excuses tbh. I assume my points are too great to argue against?
1. I assume you don't have any non-computer-nerd friends then. Building a PC is beyond 99.9% of the population.. at the very least.
2. Show me your 2-3 year old rig that is more powerful than the PS4.. please. I have a watercooled i7 920 @ 3.8 Ghz and a GTX 580 w/ 12 GBs of system ram, a 2-3 year old rig. I am positive a PS4 will end up surpassing what my rig is capable of graphics wise. I would love a laugh. Also, you SHOULD replace your PSU every 5 years no matter what. A PSU dying can easily kill your entire rig and that is not worth the chance. Every 2-3 years PC manufacturers switch CPU socket types, this means when you go to upgrade your CPU, you need a new motherboard and then the odds are pretty good you need new ram too.
3. Split screen is fun when you have friends. Hate to break it to you, but friends IRL >>>> friends on a headset.
4. This doesn't address that on average a console is more durable than a PC.

Iron Wolf Saber wrote:1. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-can-ssd-upgrades-boost-ps3-performance diagnostic tools, check; articulated details, check; technical reasoning and though process as to why, check 2. This can be blamed on production methods (they don't have to build a new factory for every new card unlike oh say a TV or console would) PS3 at launch was 500$ today an ultra slim runs you 200-300$ 3. Since we're talking about PS3 CECH B CECH A Had flash card readers and wifi CHEH C / E 4 USB Ports; PS2 Emulators, SACD palyback, Linux Support, End of Gen 1 CHEH G / H / J / K / L / M / P / Q Reduction to 2 USB ports, End of Gen 2, End of Fatmans CHEH 20/21/25/30 A / B First fo the slims featuring Bravia sync xmb control, doubly truehd and dts- hd master audio bistreaming. You are just reaching now.. you are comparing having to update your computer to console hardware revisions. New flash genius, I can play all of the latest greatest PS3 games on my 2007 PS3 without MISSING ONE THING (always wait until first price drop... always).
Also, if you went from fixing f-18 electrical systems to upgrading computers, you are an idiot.
1) I know you have been unemployed for like the majority of the time You have been a member of the Dust community, this is no secret.
2) There is no possible way that a job that requires a security clearance would pay less than f-ing geek squad.
Also, you keep comparing the cost of a 9800 GT from today, which makes me really think you are just an idiot. In order to match the performance of a PS3 in 2008 (2 years after it came out) you had to spend 75% of the cost of the ENTIRE CONSOLE on a graphics card ONLY.
LOL, even today, can you build a computer that will beat a PS3 for less than the cost of a super-slim (~$260 with a free game)? I know the fact that windows will be $100, blurray drive at least $50, and blurray playback software being another $50 only leaves you with $6-70 for case, MB, KB/m, CPU, GPU, PSU, RAM, oh and thats right... you need that 1 year warranty on everything so that means brand new components.
PS3 > a GPU. a PS3 by itself will play games, watch movies, surf the internet, stream/share local media, print, you know... a great deal of stuff (not anywhere near as much as a computer, but stil a ton of stuff). A GPU will do nothing without it's surrounding components, you really can't compare just a GPU versus an entire console.
On point 3. Yeah I am going to need a source on that on right there. Also, for a handle see the gamecube.
