I consider the whole ordeal the same as the old "Myspace" picture dilemma.
You see picture of woman. Woman is hot. You talk to woman. You go on date with woman. You can't find woman at the bar. Woman finds you. She's some hideously disgusting blob of blubber that looks absolutely nothing like she did in those, now clearly photoshopped and excellently angled, profile pictures. You fake ill and leave.
CCP disguised Dust to be some longterm plan of awesomeness. This caused many of us to spend money based on that promise. I don't regret the money I spent because I had a lot of fun using it all. Unfortunately I do feel somewhat scammed because I would not have spent that money if I knew the game would be ending this soon. Ultimately it was all our own choice to make the purchases we made. Thus is life. Deal with it. |

I am clearly stating my reasoning for buying AUR. And now your saying that I'm... making things up?????? What am I making up exactly? My own reasonings for doing things?
We were mislead. Period. They should not of put Omega on sale when they plan to announce Dust 2.0 on a different platform. Dust continuing as a 'Low Resource Project" meant the same to most of us as if it was a doomed project, which it quite literally means until CCP can pull resources from another project back onto Dust. Which means the cancellation of another project or expansion of CCP *Not likely*
Anyone who has words of defense for CCP against me gets slammed. Get used to it scrub.
Here's how it works, buddy :) You can buy a car to drive to the moon, but that doesn't mean the car manufacturer stole from you when you realize it isn't going to get you to the moon. The way they work things like this out in the real world, where adults live, is by having a contract, or a buyer/seller agreement. This way buyers can protect themselves, and so can sellers by being very clear about what is being purchased and the liability therein. If you don't choose to read such things, and continue to imagine that that car, er Aurum, is going to get you to the moon, you have no one to blame but yourself. Especially when someone like me comes here and reminds you that the Aurum you bought is still just as functional as it was two weeks ago. You lost nothing but your fantasy about what you bought. I know that hurts, but you'll get over it. Buck up buttercup :) Oh, look. The fanboy is defending CCP with, "Hahaha, scams work scrub, CRY CRY CRY!" Lmao. lol. Ad Hominem FTL

I spent more money on Dust than I have ever done one a single game (not sure of the exact amount, but well over $100)
Do I feel cheated? - No Do I feel I got my money's worth? - Absolutely, I had (and have) a blast playing this game Did I spend money for the future of Dust? - No... Well, kind off. I enjoy their games so I want to support CCP developing the IP further (EVE + Dust). Did I get disappointed at the Fanfest presentation? - Absolutely, but mainly how it was handled, not the content (more of a massive face palm; Not again...) Will I play Legion when/if it comes out? - Hell Yes. Will I spend any more money on Dust after the Legion announcement? - On the fence on this one. As I stated, I support the IP so that includes Legion, but I would like to see Legion green lit before. My EVE account starts to run out, so I might put my money there instead, but either way they end up in CCPs pockets I guess Do I feel for our fellow mercs that don't own a gaming PC? - Yes, without a doubt. Been in those situations myself a couple of times with other games... It sucks.
****, this got longer than I thought... See you on the battlefield.

They didn't "steal" anything. You decided to spend money on a game you were privileged to play by CCP. I spent $40 on this game.... The first $20 was well spent on a merc pack that I ended up getting 4 bpos from. The other was for aurum

I don't consider choosing to pay for something of my own free will as being stolen from. I'm not sure I would consider anything I purchased before October/pre-EA-man to be "stolen," but everything after October/post-EA-man when it was already decided upon that Dust was done and Legion was the only hope of the original vision moving forward, then yeah it sure feels like the money I spent on boosters for the events was stolen from me. I spent that money under the impression that my progress would survive for years down the road despite CCP knowing full well it wouldn't. The difference with before the EA man came was that CCP were also still under the impression Dust was going to keep on moving forward.
And yeah yeah say what you want about CCP "trying their best" to make sure our progress isn't forgotten in Legion, until I hear them confirm exactly how they plan to do that then my money feels as good as stolen.

I spent $150 on what I was promised to be a long-term game Quite simply there was a breach of contract Exactly. Of course, I'll state again that before the EA man came I wouldn't really consider it money stolen. Sure they may have promised a long term goal, but as a customer you show understand that nothing in this industry can be guaranteed. So really, you're giving your money to support CCP under the conditions that they work towards that goal of making their product last long term.
Now, after the EA man came we were still giving our money to support CCP but they were no longer working towards that goal and knew full well, so at that point we were flat out being lied to and misdirected. Heck, even after the EA man came in you have CCP Praetorian say "We're laser focused on PS3" which was a flat out lie even at the time he said it. And sure it has since been revealed that CCP was really angry that Praetorian said that, but that's something you should of corrected and let your consumers know 7 months ago, not after the fact. And really from the moment they decided that they would no longer work for the long term sustainability of Dust 514 they should of let their consumers know that they are no longer able to meet their goal. So really, the term "steal" isn't that far fetched for everything after October.

mag stole 40 dollars from me, I bought that from the store when it was new got an extra character slot played it for 6 monthes, that never played it again, I heard it shut down 2 years later, I believe the money was stolen from me as well.
in the case of dust I don't regret any money I spent on it as I've gotten the value out of it, but I will never spend a penny after what we saw at fan fest. |

oh why's that?
also not really discrediting giving my opinion some may believe they have had their money stolen, but the end of the day I get more play value out of every dollar with dust then I get with any triple A title I buy.
dust will be around for another 2 years, and it will never be supported by it's devs again like mag, the shoe seems to fit to me. |

MAG was never pitched as a long term decade-spanning product. No one from Sony or Zipper told you they were laser focused on continuing work on the PS3 while in fact worked on porting the same game to PC (oops, it has a different name so it's not the same game ) and ending that long term plan, but still happily charged you for game-currency under the impression that the long term plan was still there.

If you only bought into Dust for the lobby shooter than sure it may not feel like your money got stolen, but for all of us who were promised the meaningful sandbox connected to EVE Online, only to be told that that is actually going to be a completely separate game with a separate progression, then yeah it feels like our money (and time) was spent on nothing.
Nobody said mag wouldn't be around for years, they were updating it regularly, they even had an expansion so at least for the first year their were no signs of it dieing.
now most mmo's are like this, it's hoped that they will be around for decades like WOW or DDO or what not, but most don't come out and say it, now CCP developed this game so that it would take 10 years to cap your skills, meaning at the time they really did believe that the game would be around for 10 years, we call that being cocky.
the sandbox connection to eve is not going to happen, it doesn't look like it will even happen in legion, by this point it's pretty obvious CCP doesn't even know how to accomplish it or what accomplishing it even means, sorry but you bet on the wrong horse if this was the only reason you were playing dust, I on the other hand paid for dust based on what it CURRENTLY was and what it could be, the emphasis being on what it is more then what it could be.
morale of the story don't spend money on promises spend money on what actually is, stay the fck away from kick starter as well...has nothing to do with this but I don't think you'd have good experiences with it. |
