I would absolutely love to give you sales data for digital purchases, but the company that makes up 75% of all PC digital sales (steam) does not release sales figures. I can tell you that valve made under 1 billion dollars last year, which would put it at about 1/5th of activision.

Face it, PC is a secondary thought to most game publishers because of rampant, easy piracy and easy cheats and lack-luster sales.

There is ONE analyst stating that PC software revenue was $22 billion last year, and since steam does release it's numbers, I would love how he came to that figure. Console gaming? 38 billion dollars, and that is from multiple sources.

Pc sales are declining 10% a year for the last few years.

PC gaming is a socially unacceptable (i.e. nerdy) thing and PC gamers are mostly social pariahs. Sorry guys, it is the truth.

Such global stats don't apply as much to building a player base for Dust 2 as they would for most games. You have to have a lot of gamer nerd in you to want to succeed in Dust and go through the progressions, learn the game, figure out the fitting and stats and everything. You have to be even more of a gamer nerd to want to be immersed in emergent gameplay and be active in a corp and all that.

Point is this: Dust needs to be itself to thrive and that means modeling itself after EVE and being basically the shooter version of EVE. This type of game won't attract as many masses as Destiny or whatever, but it will attract some and that community will grow and many of them will stick with the game over the long haul. A lot of PC gamers want that type of game, so that's the market we want for Dust 2. PC is already primed for Dust and there a lot of EVE players and other gamers that will play if it's on PC (and actually an MMOFPS). Console on the other hand has some of the gamer nerd crowd that wants that emergent content but a lot of the base just wants to sit down and relax with a lobby shooter, like the OP. Nothing wrong with that, and there will be ample opportunities for that in Dust 2, but that's not what makes CCP games special.

TLDR: Only a PC platform will enable CCP to realize their and our vision of what Dust can be, and the nature of PC gaming and character of PC gamers gives Dust 2 potentially a broader player base who will buy in to the emergent gameplay.

'Tis funny, in a way. If the global power grid were to be wiped out by, say, a series of massive flares from the Sun, farming and animal husbandry would continue, albeit in a reduced, pre-electrical fashion.

Most everything else in society would grind to a halt and quickly de-evolve into savagery, especially in the cities. Your average gamer GÇö PC and console GÇö would likely be among the first to lose his/her life in that sort of social upheaval.

So, Beeeees is once again shown to be a short-sighted member of the "master race." As a "hybrid" myself GÇö both console and PC gamer GÇö I'm embarrassed that s/he's "in the club," so to speak.

Oh, and just for giggles, it's my belief that console and PC gamers share a common, evolutionary ancestor: THE PINBALL MACHINE PLAYER!

Unless something big changed recently, getting a controller that is both comfortable and works flawlessly with pc games is like pulling off a miracle. Secondly, chilling out is something that doesnt involve watching windows or whatever boot up. Studies have shown that tension enters the shoulders with just visual triggers of WORK.

just because it is feasible doesnt make it practical, workable, or comfortable.
Also, those with Work related upper limb disorders ( or RSI ) and other disabilities are being discriminated against by this. i for one dont want to see a mouse in the living room, not sure my wife would be too happy.

And to the sychophants: while you can be a **** and jump on a complaint as a means to discredit the opinion. YOU KNOW that every one of you who bothers to read any dust thread would be guilty of doing the same if CCP took your game away.

I'll be the last person to defend how CCP went about all of this, all I'm saying is that for me, personally, this was basically the best case scenario. I really hope they manage to port it to PS4 as well, I really do, but for right now, PC is what will allow them the flexibility and breathing room to actually bring us the original vision. I was sold on that vision, and I was just about to set DUST down for good because I knew it would never be able to live up to that vision.

CCP restored my hope with Legion. I'm still skeptical, I still have no plans of throwing my money at them any time soon, but for me, I couldn't ask for better news (again, not HOW that news was given)

It sucks for console only players, no doubt, and they have every right to be upset. However, I think CCP made the right call here, if from no other perspective than a business one. DUST would never compete with next gen games. Legion will give them a run for their money.

CCP is good at one thing only point and click. Eve was the easiest MMO i ever played. No skill involved just fittings that's it. A FPS Is totally different i have zero faith in CCP when it comes to shooters. Just look at Dust and all it's issues. Making Dust part 2 on PC Won't fix the issues CCP have with coding and core gameplay.

I respect his right to play Minecraft and all the ****** little Steam games he wants in his base room between bouts of maturbation to internet ****. I even respect your right to do the same or applaud CCP for ******* a bunch of people over or buying their BS about it being the PS3 holding them back.

Platformers? You can plug a controller into your PC.

Couch co-op games? You can plug your PC into a TV.

Those ******, terrible Xbox Live Arcade titles? Hrm, maybe, I mean obviously there's flash games on the PC, but even then most of them aren't that bad.
