30 seconds is fine but when it is the entire match and they purposely don't leave the safe zone for more than a few minutes it is a problem.

It is the same as botting, modding a controller or using a macro to perform better. They are getting something for cheating the mechanics, if it wasn't cheating then there wouldn't be a mechanism to try and stop it. Being poor or bad doesn't give them a right to cheat and get free in game assets without risking anything.
Its not the same at all. You are comparing intentionally using cheating devices to someone is is just hesitant to go and incur another loss. When the MCC is close to destruction and the enemy is sitting on your redline, what other choices are there for an inexperienced player? Whether he hides in the MCC or hides behind an installation on the ground under the MCC, his only choices at that point is hide or die or quit.
The Robot Devil wrote:I run starters in a lot of battles in which I am being rolled off the field and I have been playing for about two years now. If they would try to get better or to make a difference then they would get better and make more kills. Cheaters should not be allowed to continue, it is not an entitled mindset. It is not wanting to reward cowards and cheats and nothing else. If you don't have the balls to play then turn the game off or leave the battle. Be a logi or run starter fits. Beat the protostompers at their game by only wearing free suits so they don't make much ISK and when you do get a kill it is much more satisfying.
You are talking like someone who has experience. Again, remember the demographic in question here. Its not about "fear" or cowardice. These people are not trying to protect their KDR, they are trying to protect their wallets.
You learned how to be economical. Me too I learned that. Some have not. they have not learned to diversify their roles. You and i know a losing situation when we see it, and switch to cheaper suits so that the ISK losses wont be too horrid. A new player is not expecting to lose. Hes expecting that as his equipment gets better, his results and payout will too.
We are not talking about someone who is 9-3 and wants a good KDR so hes hiding to get the good KDR and good pay. Someone who is 0-8 has already lost the game in all senses of the word.
The Robot Devil wrote:Being in a squad and/or actually trying is always better then sitting there cheating just to make risk free ISK. Reporting a player is not punishing them having a bad match, it is reporting a cheater. If you can't compete then leave the battle and try again. If you are too poor to use the suit you want then maybe you should evaluate your finances and learn to manage your wallet better.
10k suit * 10 deaths = 100k Just trying will make 50k after the loses. Free suit * 10000000000000000000000 deaths = all profit.
You are repeating yourself mostly here, so ill repeat myself as well; Hesitation to jump into the meat grinder is different than joining a match just to AFK all match. Now if a player is AFKing in every match, thats a different story than a player who is just having a bad game and is waiting out the last 2 minutes.
Of course they need to learn to manage their wallet better, but that is not going to happen instantly. People take time to learn things. They wont learn anything by going bankrupt or by quitting the game. Incase you forgot, non ingame items, like skillbooks, can cost quite a bit.
The Robot Devil wrote:If you can't even make 1 WP in a match then you need to reevaluate your role or you came in to the battle very late.
In all fairness, the game is not clear as to what actions will award WP. Most new players are coming here from more basic FPS where the players only role is to kill. These players are used to being rewarded for kills or objectives. I didnt know drop uplinks gave 25WP per spawn. I didnt know I could get 35WP for Triage, or 10WP for team resupply, or 40WP for Baloch destruction, or 75WP for damaging a vehicle.
When I first started playing, I only knew of 25WP kill assist, 50WP kill, 50WP hack and 100WP objective. A player who is 0-8, is not killing, not capturing objectives, not hacking installations, and is lucky to get a kill assist while using their militia AR. If they dont know about other ways to get WP, they are prettymuch shutdown from competing at that point.
One more thing; The thing about symptoms, is that if you dont fix the real problem, they resurface in another form. If you implement a dragnet punishment for anyone taking time in the MCC, they will just find a spot on the ground to camp. If you find a way to punish them for that then they will still find another way to run down the clock safely. If you fix the real problem, the unbalanced matchmaking, then the symptom of people too discouraged to fight will go away. |

LAVALLOIS, why are you going so far out of your way to defend AFKers? In response to your earlier comment, "Did you even check the scoreboard?" Yes I did, you know what it said? 0/0 0WP, AND THERE WERE 10 OF THEM! Don't even try to bs me that the starter suits are useless, because they're not. I still use Frontline dropsuit set up with a Militia Nanite Injector and there is no way I can make less than 60WP a match, unless I were to be hiding in the MCC. If people are hiding because they're getting ravaged by the opposition and its clear we're going to lose, I still think we should go all out, but I don't really care if they do hide. However, people sitting in the MCC from the start of the timer is the issue I'm talking about. Is that what you do? Is that the reason why you think people should be able to hide for an entire match, not contribute anything to the team, just be useless, rather than just use a free suit and at least have a go?

the issue is that they are in the MCC from the beginning of the match until it ends. if they are getting stomped to the point that one team has 140 clones left and the other has 30.. then yeah sure why bother at that point. but it is the entire 10-20 minutes of the match. |

If i'm in a game and I'm the only one pushing the objective while the rest of the team are sightseeing or I get outnumbered and I die only to find out some moron has placed uplinks on all the towers / buildings then that's it, I'm done with that game.
I just want to be paid for the suits I lost and claim the SP I earned being in the line of fire while the rest of them are dying in droves trying to get off the high points or being largely ineffective.
And you know what? I'm still usually around 4th place at the end of the match. For 3 mins work.
And no I won't just quit. Firstly I want my goddamn money and secondly why should I make some other poor sap get pushed into a game where he's automatically down at least 30-40% of the earnings and doesn't know what kind of shitstorm he's getting into?

I think I should have stated earlier, that if the match is so one sided, that people find that they can't do anything, not even get a single kill, then by all means, be a ***** and hide in the MCC. I, on the other hand will spawn in a cheap/free suit, and keep going for just maybe that one extra kill. It's cheap/free, I don't give a crap if I lose 50-100 of them, it's a part of the game, it's a part of getting anywhere.
If they don't like the game after the patches, then don't play. Are they mentally handicapped? It's not hard to figure out, move on from this game and play something else.
If they're alts for ISK farming, IP recognition and banning, or PSN account banning. Hold corporations accountable for the actions of their members, fine them a percentage of their ISK if they don't talk to and fix their useless members clogging up matches that just ruins it for others. If their members don't comply, kick them or risk the fine.
If they're actually behind the controller running around nonstop in the MCC all match then... I don't know, that's kind of just sad and pathetic, having a life that empty and dull seems like punishment enough really.

Why are you guys letting CCP off the hook for this? How is that "letting CCP off the hook" exactly?
Every time I make a report about a player AFKing in DUST - EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. - I"m making a distinct point of mentioning that the current anti-AFK measures are woefully inadequate for the task. I'm ALSO making a point of intermittently referring back to the forum discussions which covered that BEFORE CCP EVER IMPLEMENTED ANYTHING. We clearly explained that the system CCP ended up using was a terrible idea, and covered most of the reasons WHY it was a terrible idea. People clearly defined the problems we're having now as a result of the game's poorly-implemented anti-AFK measures, and CCP still implemented a system which was known IN ADVANCE to be in some ways worse than doing nothing about the problem at all. I KEEP POINTING THAT OUT. I'm not letting go of the fact that CCP have made mistakes in how they try to control this behaviour.
People circumventing the anti-AFK measures built into the game are willfully and deliberately doing things that CCP doesn't intend. That's a fact, and that's a valid reason to report those people to CCP. But those people's deliberate violation of the intended game mechanics doesn't give CCP a free pass. If competent anti-AFK measures were implemented, it would be more difficult for people to do this, AND it would be easier for CCP to identify and track down the players who are trying to circumvent the system. |
