I've asked before, but I'll ask again. Why do people AFK in the MCC? Are they just not good enough to play, so they ruin it for everyone else? Or do I just have really crappy luck and get stuck with the sucky team that hides.

Then they shouldn't play instead of ruining it for others. Or at least make it so if you don't get any WP, you don't get any SP or ISK. I'm tired of having 10 players doing nothing in the MCC, taking up space that more useful and better players could fill.

Free SP + Free ISK + No Risk (Of course there will people that say its not free because of the electricity bill or something stupid)
The problem with AFKing is that the SP rewards are completely ******.
You get:
5 SP/Second
1 SP/WP
So pretty much you're rewarded for being there, and not doing something.

Making WP a requirement to get any SP at all wouldn't stop them. All they'd have to do is drop an uplink/hive or shoot a few rounds into a turret for a kill assist. Then straight back to spinning/leg crunches on the MCC. Not to mention the poor newberries who go 0/10 with 0WP getting screwed by this, even though they fought. |

The more people we have reporting these people, the more likely CCP are to realise it really IS as big a problem as the frequent AFK threads on the forums would indicate. Also, the more likely they are to consider implementing a REAL anti-AFK solution in place of the current one.
They do listen to the players. And when I've reported people, and commented about the poor choice of anti-AFK measure they're using, they've responded to my reports. |

We are fortunate to be part of an small elite group of people whose only purpose is to gain access into the MCC control room. For months we have made little progress but have not lost hope. A while back we received intel that there is an access panel in one of the corners of the spawn areas within the MCC. All available personnel have been dispatched to investigate the matter. Unfortunately because of many battles that lead to the destruction of the MCC and our clone, we never get to analyze all the data and always have to start over.
Have no fear though, we will remain vigilant and continue to gather data and these so called "MCC Corners."
We will gain control of the ship...

You get:

So pretty much you're rewarded for being there, and not doing something.
The sad part is that the solution is simple. Make the 5x WP SP done during events standard. Then nerf the crud out of the SP/second half of things.

The vets have been fighting that fight since closed beta, so well over a year now, closer to two. Hundreds of threads, thousands upon thousands of words and well-reasoned arguments presented by peeps who obviously know the game inside out and have it's best interests at heart.
To date we've heard absolutly nothing back on it from CCP. It's been like talking to a black hole.
Good luck in your quest, young merc. The path ahead of you is littered with the corpses of vets who are no longer with us.

I feel as though people are blowing the AFK problem way out of proportion.
I see a AFKers like once every 10 matches, and even then it's only one or two people doing it. Sometimes more, but usually not.
It's never enough to ruin a match for me.

Did you bother to check the scoreboard at the same time? Or did you spend most of your time whining and feeling sorry for yourself?
Dust 514 is not a free game in the sense that a death means nothing. People have to pay ISK for all their equipment unless they are running starter fits.
Take a second to step out of your entitled mindset and put yourself in the shoes of someone else;
Imagine a relatively new player, running suits that cost 10,000-15,000ISK. Hes playing a Domination against a super corp. Hes been trying to push all game, but keeps running int squads having 6vs1 fights. Concequently, hes now 0-8 with 75 WP.
How much do you think hes going to get paid for being 0-8 with 75 WP? Probably close to 85,000ISK. Except his suit losses total 120,000ISK for that game. He is already facing a deficit of 35,000ISK. For a new player with low reserves, that can be devastating.
So what are his choices? Keep pushing and losing suits and make the deficit all that much worse? Quit the match and lose the full 120,000ISK? Or...... wait out the end of the game, cash out, and hope to find a more balanced match next time around?
People AFKing in the MCC is not the problem. It is a symptom of the problem. Fix the real problem (PC corps in Pub) and the symptoms will go away.

It is the same as botting, modding a controller or using a macro to perform better. They are getting something for cheating the mechanics, if it wasn't cheating then there wouldn't be a mechanism to try and stop it. Being poor or bad doesn't give them a right to cheat and get free in game assets without risking anything.
It is a symptom of a problem but it still doesn't give them the right to do it. I run starters in a lot of battles in which I am being rolled off the field and I have been playing for about two years now. If they would try to get better or to make a difference then they would get better and make more kills. Cheaters should not be allowed to continue, it is not an entitled mindset. It is not wanting to reward cowards and cheats and nothing else. If you don't have the balls to play then turn the game off or leave the battle. Be a logi or run starter fits. Beat the protostompers at their game by only wearing free suits so they don't make much ISK and when you do get a kill it is much more satisfying.
Being in a squad and/or actually trying is always better then sitting there cheating just to make risk free ISK. Reporting a player is not punishing them having a bad match, it is reporting a cheater. If you can't compete then leave the battle and try again. If you are too poor to use the suit you want then maybe you should evaluate your finances and learn to manage your wallet better.
10k suit * 10 deaths = 100k Just trying will make 50k after the loses. Free suit * 10000000000000000000000 deaths = all profit.
If you can't even make 1 WP in a match then you need to reevaluate your role or you came in to the battle very late. There are plenty of things that can be done to make ISK and it only takes a little though and actually trying. Saying that a starter fit is not competitive is a lie, they are good suits and with a better mod or two you can make a lot of ISK off a 7k suit. AFKing is cheating and should be punished as such.

because they get fed up with jumping out of the MCC after being redlined by a protostomping corp, only to be OBd and suicided by the enemy protostompers, because since ISK means nothing to them so they'll do anything to get the kill.
The only thing you can do at that point is chill in the MCC because those b@stards are scanning down every red dot in the enemy red line and taking them out whatever it takes. |

Imo, the responsibility for AFKing does not belong to any player of this game, be they protostomping queue-synced squad members or broke and bewildered noob or cynical vet.
It's a mechanic that CCP intentionally created and added to the game without consulting the players. It's a mechanic that CCP has intentionally left in the game in spite of players' response to it.
It's a mechanic the their 'rubberband-proof fix' still allows to exist.
It looks to me like CCP has made a design descision that they want peeps to be able to AFK in their game, this kind of kittenpoop desn't happen by accident.

Don't play in the Oceania server, that is an AFK server.
Go to your in game setup menu and select the server you would like to play in. If the automatic setting is Oceania, than you need to manually change it.
It is common knowledge that AFKers do so in a dedicated server for it and that the other servers are for actual game play.
Your petitions should really be asking CCP to rename the server from "Oceania" to "AFK"

Sometimes your team gets stomped, hard. And when the enemy controls the majority of the objectives, has more than 50% shields remaining, while your MCC has less than 50% armor, that match is over. If you've been playing hard the whole match, there's no dishonor in sitting out the last 30 seconds of it.
