Maybe you should have took the past year to develop skill, awareness, and general FPS skill... Scanners and mini-maps are crutches. If you can't figure out where the enemy is on your own, its no wonder so many in this game get trampled on by so-called "protostompers" There is 360 degrees around you, learn to be aware of you map position, and any and all flank routes to your position.
comms are good to have too. Hey snipers make yourselves useful.

You can snipe with a heavy can you not? You can assault with a scout can you not? You can scout with a logi can you not? So why shouldn't my minmatar heavy be able to run on the front lines with the rest of the assaults if I choose to put sprint mods on? I can sprint at 6.7, that's faster than most armor tanked assaults. With a second one I can get up to 7.44...but even then I'm still straggling behind. You're focusing on building up your speed and not bothering with stamina buffs.
Train stamina skills and equip stamina mods.
Now you'll have speed AND the ability to maintain that speed.
You'll have no armour or shields doing it though, so.... good luck? |

You do realize that minmatar suits got a HUGE stamina regen buff in 1.8 right? My stamina takes about 25 seconds to full deplete (25 seconds of sprint time), and only about 3-4 seconds to recharge back to full (most suits it takes about 10 seconds or so)
Stamina mods might make sense on something like an amarr heavy...but I seriously don't need to every worry about stamina again after the 1.8 buff
As for not using shield/armor mods...the whole point of a fast suit is to be fast in it right? There's no way I can out-tank a suit meant for tanking (i.e. amarr or caldari), so I have to use my agility to my advantage to flank/use cover instead of just fighting head-on.
Last thing...no armor/shields? base HP for the thing after skills is over 1000...maybe not impressive for a heavy but when you run as fast as a medium frame you might as well compare it to a medium...and 1000 is actually not bad.

If you can sprint that speed for that amount of time, and recover that fast, but still can't keep up, you're doing something wrong. Please explain HOW people are getting (and staying) ahead of you in suits which are both slower AND have worse stamina than you.
Heavies still have lower movement speed in combat, and as a frontline suit, you HAVE to rely on your eHP more than your ability to move back into cover like an Assault or Scout can. If you can't take cover as efficiently, and still only have comparable eHP to the well-tanked Assaults you're matching sprint speed with, then you're in trouble when you start taking heavy fire. |

Um
Pretty sure scouts can run 9, 10 m/s easily now with the extra slots they got in 1.8. Scouts also have the most stamina and fastest stamina regen of all the frames...
I was never saying that assaults are beating me to the punch...it's scouts that I'm talking about being the main frontline fighters now. Apparently 360 degree 24/7 scans are BAD, yet scouts with a huge passive scan that runs 24/7 360 degrees is OKAY
And don't get me started about the way I see them tanking their suits like assaults...
-_-
Not saying you're one way or another, but it's just annoying.

You'd think that would be how it's supposed to work, but players like Frost Kitty, Flako, Ghost Kaiser, Moody...
The good scouts I play with don't die easily, can see everything, and make the game boring.
Yeah I could run a scout with them, a speed-fit logi or assult...but that's not what I like to do. I like playing as a logi, or a heavy.
But when scouts have such low hp and don't need ammo that much (i.e. knives), my logi is worthless in these squads, and my heavy literally has nothing to do.
"but what about point defense as a heavy, like defending an objective?"
Yeah okay, I'll just sit on the objective while the scouts circle the city not letting anyone in. Trust me, when the enemy team isn't able to push in because the scouts are picking everyone off before I get a chance at them, it gets really boring, really fast.

Well instead of that they just reduced the scan angle and rely on you to still "sweep" across an area. Half of the time it doesn't even scan the players that are obviously there, and if you don't "sweep" it only gives you a tiny little area in front of you.
Makes scanners worthless, yet scouts get to have a huge passive scan area all around them to know where the enemy is all the time.
Now the slaying is left to the scouts, since by the time the rest of us find a red dot, the scout has aleady started to flank him
Feel free to tweet in #logilove, it needs some love from a master logi.
I tried using the AS after DT and I couldn't get it to do anything worth a damn. It would only work if I was pointing it at someone and I knew where they were so it didn't really do anything for me. I only used it that one time and wasn't impressed but I was using it on a Templar Amarr assault.

Could it be that it does snapshot but the FoV is just borked? That would account for "missing" the mercs in your arc, they just weren't covered in the angle when the picture was taken.
It does take a Snapshot as the OP expected, but they still use the old HUD animation, so it appears like yur only getting something like a 10-¦ FOV because it closes before it finishes opening.
Scanners need a proper rework anyway, this is more a plaster until they have time to overhaul its mechanics.

I have a proto gal logi and scanner is not worth because of the long recharge time (quantum version), 30 seconds for a scan is way too much, gal logi scan should be a decent counter to cloaked scouts but it's not because you can't scan for most of the time. Snapshot is not the problem, recharge time is the problem, i don't want a spam fest like 1.7, but i want to use the scanner a little more often, like 15/20 seconds on the quantum version.

Now the slaying is left to the scouts, since by the time the rest of us find a red dot, the scout has aleady started to flank him Classic CCP. Double buff one thing (baseline passive scan range on scouts increased plus Cal/Gal bonuses) while double nerfing its direct competitor (active scan angle radically reduced, cooldown radically increased), with the result that one is OP and the other is useless. |

For me the bigger issue than cooldown is the tiny angle of scan and the fact, as the OP says, that there often seem to be uncloaked people in the scan area that don't get marked (and I don't believe that they're always dampened gal scouts). |

Not saying you're one way or another, but it's just annoying. The Scout makes the sacrifice of eHP in order to get it's scans. What did Active Scanner users sacrifice for their scanning abilities?
Along with that, the Active Scanner has a longer range than Passive Scanners.
Though I do believe that Scouts tanking HP is a bit of a problem.

In case you don't know I've been running heavy for a while now, and heavies don't have the ability to use scanners. Yet I used to be able to do just fine with a heavy suit before 1.8. Now it seems like scouts are able to see anyone and everyone while us slower classes can never get to the enemy quick enough. My point was not "oh my scanner doesn't tell me where everyone is anymore *rage*". Instead I'm just annoyed that I seriously can't get any kills while running with some of my favorite scouts in this game because they always know where the enemy is and can get to them twice as fast, killing everyone before I even get a chance to fire my weapon. I'm not an idiot, I know how to flank, I know how to read the map and where the enemy might be coming from. The issue is that scouts can do it 10x better and my slower dropsuits are always picking off the remaining players instead of being up on the front lines. Well isn't that the point of heavies/sents? They're mainly for point defense, not chasing down and killing. The problem is scouts aren't meant to actively engage targets except for self defense, assaults are. Scouts are supposed to be recon units that provide intel and hack objectives (hence the staying cloaked while hacking). TL:DR Scouts aren't assaults and shouldn't behave like them.
Except that after the couple objectives get hacked your intel scouts wouldn't get another WP all match. Of course they are going to assault. There is no such thing as positional play in anything other than a PC match.
Pubs are the equivalent of peewee soccer. Every kid is chasing the ball going for a goal. Every scout is flanking and assaulting, it's the nature of the game. |

The cooldown timer UI was a nice touch though. I was worried they'd make me guess.

Do the programmers really have so little imagination that this is how they chose to fix the issue? It's just a cheap kludgy response.
Yes, they do. Also, they have no manpower for actual development. Notice how we, very rarely, get an new mechanics and that all these updates are essentially database or modelling tweaks? Yeah, no programmers.
