For Amarr, better DPS upkeep than Amarr commando. Caldari, it's not slow as **** like it's commando is, and has better viability dual tanking. Gallente, it's faster and hits better than Commando, but also doesn't rely on using ****** weapons to survive. Minmatar, I got nothing, it really does suck. Also, that -25% fitting on weapons is no joke, that's a huge bonus over other suits. It's got more health than logis, and bonuses that actually help in combat. It doesn't die when someone looks at it funny, unlike scouts. They generally aren't as vulnerable to flux nades or require logis, unlike the sentinels.

you can't fit scouts with the same weapons as the same tier assaults AND get a better tank than assaults. You live with their main bonuses; speed, hitbox, profile, endurance, and shield regen. They cannot do the same DPS as assaults with a better tank. |

Kind of. My motivation was a match getting owned by Basic Heavy / Proto RR Fittings. I asked myself: Why use an assault suit at all, when most of the game consists of relative low mobility fighting in the proximity of objectives and sub-objectives, that depends more on high dmg output and ehp. The flanking and harrasment / quick assault and retreat part seems more feasible with scouts. I just cant see what makes the assault suit special or a relevant alternative. Enlighten me. |

Versatility. Being boxed into a specific role means you lack versatility. Mediums give you flexibility. That's why they are Medium, they are the middle ground between heavy and light. I run Assault because I find the versatility of the role to be an extremely valuable asset in a battlefield that is going to change.

The weapon fitting is inconsequential as the logi has higher base CPU/PG (possible nerf later, but could just use FW specialist weapons to close the gap). Also, the slot configuration coupled with the higher CPU/PG allows the logi to recoup the deficit in armor and/or shields fairly easily. All this while having the added utility of additional equipment slots. Currently, the assault is not the best suit at anything nor does it have greater versatility than the frames that could be considered "adjacent" to it (Scout, Logi, Commando). So if the assault frame is not best in class at anything nor the most flexible, what exactly is it for? If I want more staying power and damage, I'll go commando. If I want lower signature and greater speed I'll go scout. If I want equal or better tank with more equipment, I'll go logi. Mediocre at several things isn't a class defining characteristic (or at least shouldn't be), but that seems to be where the assault frame is at currently.

The assault suit is currently the best at not having to spend a lot of SP to fully utilize the suit (mainly because it doesn't have any real specializations) but still, its strengths don't rely on you needing a ton of SP in equipment, electronics, biotics, or heavy weapons to make useful. In a way, it fits the role of a base tier slayer that you can progress through. |

You express my feelings very accurate (even better than myself). I would reformulate it like this: Something that is a little bit of everything, in this case, feels like nothing at all. And is being trumped by something in almost every situation, which can be frustrating or irritating. |

We have yet to see how increased TTK will effect things. Sidearms may go from being nice to have to necessary for a"slayer". when you run slayer logi you are basically sacrificing being able to run decent equipment to run the tank and weaponry of an assault while foregoing the sidearm in 3 out of 4 logi suits
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

Why would someone want to fit additional modules on a Logistics suit to get the stats back up to Assault suit levels? It just makes it more expensive to run and you lose the sidearm. You'll need to add a shield extender, a shield recharger or energizer, an armor plate, a stamina module and a kinetic catalyzer, oh and probably a CPU and PG upgrade to make up for the lack of weapon fitting bonus. This is just to get back to Assault levels.
I'll be running Logistics and Scout because I like to run those roles. I've also trained Assault to 3 for those times when I want a cheaper suit to just charge in and kill stuff.

True, the sidearm may make him better than a Logi, but why would I choose an Assault over a Sentinel or Commando wielding light weapons? If I want mobility, why would I choose an Assault over a Scout? Havent heard persuading answers to these questions yet, which was more or less the reason for this thread.

Good discussion going on here. I do think the sidearm slot will take on a greater role/importance. However, the reduction to equipment fitting costs for logis may make is possible to run a first rate slayer set up and still be able to fit decent equipment, which doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice. Regarding the assault suit being the entry level slayer suit, I agree that it is initially SP efficient, but that seems unsatisfying given that it will still take a couple months of SP to bring it to proto. Why not spend your SP on one of the other suits, knowing that you'll be using a slayer set up and then use your incremental SP over the next several months to fully realize the other possible roles of the frame (true scout/logi/whatever)? The scout, commando and logi suits don't require you to make many sacrifices with regard to fitting once your core skills are maxed. You can run a scout with full proto tank and primary weapon (swap in a signature or scan mod if desired) and still run a cloak and compact hive. Change your plates to ADV ones and now you can run an ADV cloak. In a game that offers slow incremental improvement, spending SP on a dead end seems counter productive for limited short term gain. I like the idea of the assault suit, but it currently suffers in comparison to other frames. Just my thoughts.
Cheers,

I've been running Gal logi most of Uprising, which already has the equipment fitting bonus. And at proto level with electronics and engineering maxed you can run proto gun, a combination of advanced and complex tanking modules and have advanced equipment. It costs you over 200K ISK and you get around 900 EHP but are slower than most assaults and of course lack the sidearm. Now my Amarr assault currently gets the same EHP, fits a proto weapon, is faster, has a sidearm and is all around a better killing suit and costs 50K ISK less and this is before weapon fitting bonuses. Now it doesn't have as much equipment but its not a support suit
Basically, the assault offers a mix of the other suits in my mind. No it is not as tanked as a commando, but it moves faster and has a grenade. No it is not as fast as a scout or have as low a profile and as good at passive scanning, but it has better tank and can usually fit a little better weaponry.
On my alt I run Gallente scout and minmatar assault. I was planning on running a version of the gal scout that was tanked out and using it as a "assault suit" but it turns out that I was making a suit that would be about the same speed as my minnie assault, have 100-200 less EHP, and not get bonuses to clip size of my CR and SMG.
IMO a well made assault is the suit that can handle changing battlefield conditions the best (by that I mean good in many scenarios without having to change suits) and it is competative with Commando, Logi, and scout. Sentinels on the other hand......well I've done enough whining about their OPness.
Between my 2 characters I'll be at proto level in 5 suits. 2 assault, 1 scout, 1 logi, 1 commando
I would like to ask you all though, if the assault had a second grenade slot and a CPU/PG boost in order to utilize that 2nd slot, would it differentiate it more in your opinion?

I run proto Cal Frame. Why? Cause I can and I look awesome. Not as awesome as proto cal assault & logi but up there. My fit
Frame GEK [smoothest rifle ever] M209 [one of the two] SMG Locus Nades ADV Rep Tool 3 ADV armor plates 4 ADV Shield Regs
Some things you don't need to go proto on. But even if its just to look awesome suits are worth it.

I'm a scout, and a logi and a 'assault.' Proto Cal Frame

Absolutely. Anything that makes it unique could be enough already. I run Gal Logi and Scout since Uprising 1.0, but I considered getting into assault. But as it is now, its unattractive to me. |

Because I don't have any commando BPO's and running a light weapon on a sentinel is for scrubs.
Also, the whole point of the assault suit is to be a workhorse suit that does a lot of things well without big time SP or ISK investment. Faster than a commando, more durable than a scout.
Why do you want it to be something else?

I just want the assault to be something. I just cant wrap my head around it. I see Logi and I think: "Yes, that is the guy.", I see Heavy and I think: "Yes, that is the tough guy.", I see Scouts and I think: "Yes, that is the sneaky guy."
When I see Assault all I think is "Meh" and go on (In the marketplace, in the skill tree, and on the battlefield). Would be great if they added something special to it. Nothing miraculous. Just something that gives me a hint.

True, the sidearm may make him better than a Logi, but why would I choose an Assault over a Sentinel or Commando wielding light weapons? If I want mobility, why would I choose an Assault over a Scout? Havent heard persuading answers to these questions yet, which was more or less the reason for this thread. Because you get the middle ground with an assault. You can have better mobility with low health as a scout. You can have high health with severely poor mobility as a heavy. Or you can have decent health with good mobility as an assault. Just means you are capable of everything but not as good at the one thing that the specialised suits specialise in. |

I got one: I'm gonna use Caldari Assault. Everyone is complaining about the bonus. I just want to see the "fan mail": "Why are you using that useless suit?" "My "Raven"? It killed your Gallente Proto Assault/Logi/Commando/Sentinel/scout suit, didn't it?"
I don't need luck, I have ammo.
