Just you wait....
(R)amps - range amplifiers.
Because of the small but significant boost to logi scans and scout base and cal/gal skill bonuses, the teams that can 'rampscan' the best will have a huge advantage.
The name of the game for 1.8 will be who can scan what and with what in order to apply the ambush.
If enemy scouts can detect you while remaining undetected and you get no warning, then they can ambush (or lead the ambush) against you and your especially vulnerable heavies.
I'm thinking attacks now will proceed shortly after a scan, so that in the same way an orbital 'sound' implies impending doom, if you get scanned you will be much more likely to come under attack.
If you can have the good fortune to hide from STD scanners, then you may not be aware of the scout 50m away showing his squad where you are.
I AM REALLY EXCITED. Because all of the different suit weights and bonuses means really interesting mixes can be deployed to really amplify the different suit advantages. |

I kind of agree although the only way a scout will be able to share enemy locations using passive scans is over comms because I believe they changed it so only active scans are shared with the squad
So.....when are the um......new dropsuits coming out CCP.....it's been a few weeks now....

Nope. As of right now, passive scans are shared with squad. I confirmed it with my squad last night. There is no doubt they can see the red dots my suit picks up. The only difference is that I think while the red dots more slowly fade on my screen, I think they more likely flicker off on theirs. So its kind of seems like the broadcasting scout can 'see more' if they are moving around and may accidentally blind their team to dots that appear then disappear. |

I think you have the right idea of what 1.8 might be like.
I expect elite teams to be able to fully utilize the Cal Scout racial skill to its fullest. No more logi scans, just pure speed to hit fast and move on to the next target. Identify, non gal scouts, and then move around the battlefield accordingly.
The cloaks + open equipment slot on scouts could make a Cal scout lead team a formidable foe and counter to slow moving Logi + Sents people might expect to be the dominant force.
I'm not saying you won't see a gal sent heavy 1.8 but scanning will dominate the battlefield and those who can avoid it (again gal scouts) might be only ones who stand a chance.

I also run a passive scan suit and according to my squad, they only see my scan results if they are within scan range of me - did you find this the case, or was your squad able to passively see the enemies you saw, even when your squadmates were across the map? |

We should get multi-racial scout squads going.
Gallente scout will be the broad precision, high range scout, to detect the bulk of the enemy team. Caldari scout will be the sharp precision, lower range scout, mainly to detect flanking scouts. Minmatar scout will be the hacker and designated heavy assassin. Amarr scout will be the bait. |

I've had similar results. Though I'm the only one passive scanning so it's hard to get true confirmation. I need someone else who can passively scan to really confirm. |

I'd assumed OP meant you lead your squad to prey by visually following them rather than using some sort of shared passive scan. I'd be really surprised if passive scan was shared with the squad - I've not heard of this mechanic working this way. That said I've been soloing all the time for the last few months so wouldn't have noticed it myself....
What passive scan range did you all have? Because base scan range is only 10m or 16m for light suit, which is bugger all really, so the ability to determine whether or not someone else's p-scan is picking up reds on your own tacnet is kind of inaccurate.
Unless you're running p-scans at 50m+ in an L5 Gallente scout suit or something? Curious
Anyway yeah generally, looking forward to more diversity in 1.8, esp. increase in p-scan ranges - it's a mechanic that can really make for nice ambushes |

Hmm. This is a good possibility that I didn't think of. However, the scout I was testing last night only actually had a measly 35 ish meter scan range and my squad members were saying how far they were from me, they had no active scans or ramps, and they were seeing my own ramp scans.
I'm pretty sure it shares beyond scan range to the squad tacnet. |

That was the point of the OP. Sorry if it wasn't clear. I was refering to Ramps or range amplifiers as extending your base scan range. Scout suits are getting a buff to base scan range from 16m to 20m while logis are going from 10m to 15m. This means that when you stack ramps you can get logi and scout suits to passively scan quite a bit (and share this info with the tacnet). |

Yeah, it's passive. I'll test it tonight to see if it's limited by range from the person doing the scanning.
I've been trying to keep a lid on it though, since shared passive scans are very useful as a well-kept secret ;)
What my squadmates have confirmed is that they don't see my passively lit-up enemies when trying to drop an OB, so in that regard active scanning is better. |

Heh no, that part was crystal clear, what I meant was I assumed you meant you could lead others to prey by them visually following you, not because there is some sort of shared p-scan mechanic. I'm not aware of any sharing of passive scan at all. The idea has been booted around various threads over the last 6-12 months or so, on many occasions, but I never saw word of it being implemented. |

Those are active scanners, and they won't work the same way in 1.8. They will take snapshots instead of lighting everything up as you go. |

I really hope and believe that this could be the case.
A heavier/brick tanked squad not utilizing scanning will really cripple their capabilities as they will find theirselves being regularly ambushed and out-flanked. I really think that right now, these are the players that are crying the loudest about TTK. They feel entitled to the false reality that all of their HP should let them spin and kill anything that is smaller/lighter than them. IMO ambush/surprise trumps all tanks.
Teams that run more balanced medium setups with PRO active scans will be able to help shut down lighter scout squads though.
Also important consequential note: passive scans from downed players still share to squad. If you kill a player and are in their passive range, their squad will seek revenge.
- Secondary effects if Cal/Gal scouts get too popular:
Renewed equipment/signal saturation on tacnet leading to lag. |

Perhaps, I'd assumed an active scanner was an active scanner, but I never thought about how the vehicle one appears to work slightly differently before. hehe time will tell come release! |

How many Range enhancerss do you have to stack for that 54m? In 1.8, the scan radius for all scouts will be set to 20, and only gal and cal scouts get radius increases with level, but only 5% instead of 10%. 20m+25%=25m max before enhancers, and thats only for cal and gal scouts.

I think Caldari also gets the range amplification skill, so it won't really be the low range scout.
