I'm fairly certain that whether you play this game on a PS4, high-end PC gaming rig, or a goddamn megacluster supercomputer, the RR would still be OP, tankbush would still be unplayable, PC districts would still be locked, etc, etc.
Maybe we fix the core content of the game first before we waste time with moving the whole broken mess to another platform because "oooh it's more powerful" and "PvE will magically appear out of my unicorn's butt" because it's on PS4 now? 60 fps will NEVER happen on ps3 Your point being? 1) Dust is not the first game I've played on a PS3. I know that there is a bit more than just hardware limitations going on with the framerate and lag issues here. 2) OK, so " oooh it's more powerful" and I get 60fps. Hooray! I can watch myself get spawncamped by HAV's that much more clearly. Besides (MAYBE) getting better framerates, assuming CCP can get their act together, what else gets fixed? Especially if one considers the months of development time lost to porting the game? Nothing. You really think there's no difference between 20fps and 60fps Increased frame rate would make a HUGE difference in the feel of the game It would also allow for better rendering, textures, increase player count, bigger battles, and many other features |

There is still power in Ps3 and if CCP told otherwise, its just maded excuse, nothing else. Blacklight Retribution is such a shallow, terrible shooter though. I was originally interested by it's "deep levels of customization" only to find that the customization was the result of either mindless grinding or spending of real money. You obviously never played that XD I started clan in original PC one long time ago and level of custom is such awesome. You basicaly doing whole weapon just for yourself, if you saw something less, you propably played Blacklight> Tango down and not a Retribution. I played blacklight on my ps4 and it was terrible Broken controls and very much P2W Dust felt silky smooth after playing blacklight
Nope you are just devil advocate, nothing else. In Blacklight: Retribution i will made full suit by myself (legs, armor and helmet). In Blacklight: Retribution I will made full weapon by myself (receiver, stock, ammo, scope, barrel) I can using stuf like, medpack, revivepack, stealthpack, shield, riotshield, searchtowers, hacktools, hell i can call my own terrorbot, hardsuit-armored suit like bot with rail rifle and minigun, or buying for ingame points special weaponry on battlefield. And many many more. And whole that in fastpaced fights with great modes. Boyo you just dont even know what you can have in BL:Retribution, hell you have even eletric shurikens what are like stunt mines, machetes, knifes, swords and my preffered hammer. And your P2W "yup really", just another b*shate, you already know where you need boosters more, yup here in dust boyo XD Just admit it, you saw BL>Retribution just on picture XD

Nothing.

I do in fact know the difference between 20 and 60 fps. 200%.
You, on the other hand, are missing my point completely. What I am saying is that there is nothing about the PS4 that will instantly make CCP better at programming a FPS.
It will not make them the second coming of Id or Bungie (or even Rare) with a magnificent new flawless engine. It will not fix OP weapons and vehicles It will not create/balance all the racial heavy weapons or vehicles It will not fix PC district locking It will not create PvE or a player market out of thin air (or unicorn farts)
TL;DR The PS4 is not a self-aware machine that writes it's own code. It will not fix any of the major problems with Dust on it's own.
(We would probably get modestly better rendering and frame rates assuming CCP can actually take full advantage of the hardware.)

Moving to the PS4 right now would improve our game experience not one bit. CCP has a lot of work to do before the game is in a polished, playable release state.
Moving to PS4 before that would be a waste and only serve to garner DUST more bad reviews and probably the ultimate dismissal from the minds of the gaming public and press - you can only fail so many times before nobody takes you seriously anymore.
PS3 is where we should be. As far as DUST is concerned the PS3 has a lot more to give than we're getting right now, and it's CCP's job to get that out of her. If we can get a stable 25 fps out of the PS3 and address the gameplay issues, we'll be in a very good place.
And with the game in that polished state and steadily gaining playerbase and getting more new peeps up to speed and invested in New Eden, the move to PS4 will be a major event for the entire gaming industry.
But you've gotta stick the landing first time, CCP.

If someone asked me to guess what CCP's plans are for Dust on PS4...
My first guess would be an announcement at FanFast that Dust will be released on PlayStation Now, with the headline "Now you can play Dust 514 on your PS4".
My second guess would be that there's been a directive from senior execs that no CCP employee can discuss Dust on PS4 because they really are "laser focussed on the PS3" and don't want to be constantly justifying this.
My third guess would be that they've been working on a PS4 port but their agreement with Sony prevents them discussing it within 12 months of the game's launch, so expect an announcement in May 2014 (or 5/14 - see what they did there?).
Regarding PS3 and PS4 players fighting each other; I see no fundamental reason why not, but even if they can't do that then they'll all still exist within the same single-sharded universe. You'd be in the same corps, share chat and voice, have a single player market (assuming this ever happens), etc.

Maximus Stryker wrote:Would E3 be a better place to announce such a move or would FanFest be better?
Reason for FanFest: It is the pinnacle of CCP's achievements and visions, no better venue to announce DUST will move to the PS4
Reason for E3: It is later in the year (a month or two i think), thus giving CCP more time to work on it and be that much close till the launch date (assuming the launch date would remain the same whether they announced at FF or E3). Additionally, an E3 announcement would get more press from the gaming community as a whole, at least that is my guess, and thus would hopefully attract new/more players.
Definitely FanFest. People outside these forums either know nothing about Dust, forgot about Dust or just think Dust is just an awful/boring game. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people get confused between From Dust, Dust: An Elysian Tale and Dust 514.
FanFest will be where the people who actually know/ care about the game are going to be. No one else cares.

That means double the development and coding since both systems are not compatible in any way. So split an already small team into 2 smaller teams. Yeah that seems logical.
This is one of the many reasons that it may end up on PC/Steambox before the PS4.

Why does everyone expect them to get it on the ps4 anytime soon? CCP is having a hard enough time trying to get the ps3 version right. It'll be years before they get it on the ps4, that is if the game survives the rest of this year.

My take on it is moving to PS4 anythime soon would be a wasteful tragedy for the game, and moving to PC would be its death-knell. I originally posted this link based solely on the chuckle to be had of imagining 'blushing CCP employees'.

CCP has never claimed that there would not be a PC version, only that there would be, at least initially, an exclusive to PS3.
That's all over and done with now. If you're making a game, and you want it to last 10 years like your existing flagship, you put it on the same platform. The platform that you are familiar with.
Now the case for PS3 in the first place was to capture the console market. That hasn't panned out for CCP, and frankly, the console market isn't nearly as attractive as it was say 4 years ago (when they started with Dust). SO, a PC port makes perfect sense because the game can be much better there and CCP wouldn't have to deal with a company like Sony to push out updates/content changes and the microtransaction market.. Also, both new consoles are basically watered down PCs anyway so a port to one is essentially a port to the other.
The original arguments against PC were that Dust might erode the playerbase of Eve and the mouse vs controller issue. We already have mouse control in Dust (A strong indication of CCP's interest in a PC port) and due to Dust not being massively embraced by the console community, the first argument is moot as well.
Development costs on PC would also be lower.
This is all speculation of course. We'll know when CCP wants us to know.

I have an honestly ignorant noob question for you move-to-PC peeps.
Is it possible to stop botting/hacks on PC? I know other fps games suffer from these - we mercs will someday be deciding the fate of large alliances/wars and these hacks will destroy DUST's engame.
Is there any way CCP could deploy onto PC and realistically prevent this? My experience tells me no, but it would be great if more informed peeps could weigh in. That includes you too, CCP, no need to be shy here and this is really a dicussion about modern PC gaming in general.

Dust has server side authentication/replication of all actions.
Nothing is 100% against hacks/mods - no, not on consoles either. Server side calculations pretty much stop it cold though. There are plenty of games on PC that have no real presence of hacks/bots etc, in fact - nearly all of them.
Eve has been online for 10 years, and it does a pretty good job of keeping hacks off. Steam also runs some software to check for known hacking/botting software and it seems to do a pretty good job.
The real secret though is to make all important decisions server side rather than client side. Incidentally, Dust already has this. I wonder why? |
