If anyone went and looked at CCPGames.com and looked at all the positions they're hiring for the Shanghai division, they'd know that CCP is doing everything in their power to turn things around and speed up the development process. I think everyone needs to understand that these guys have (up until the recent holidays) been burning through -monthly- point releases; that's no easy task and I'm sure all of the developers have felt the grind from that.
Then of course there are members of the community that chastize them for having extended holidays... With that kind of acid-spewing, you can't immediately wonder why CCP is more often silent then not xD
Ya I saw that they are looking to hire plenty of programmers, why did it take them so long to figure out that they were so behind and needed better or more people? Could have been anything, really. Budget concerns at the time, employees leaving for whatever reason (I know at least a Game Designer and Executive Producer no longer work there) or it could have been pressures from Sony; you never really know but you can always speculate. What's important though is that they -are- hiring the position and taking pretty great strides to ensure change
Indeed many possibilities but it may be too late if they don't already have something awesome planned for fan fest
After Uprisings release the forums were a bad place, I'll never forget how CCP screwed up so badly.

I'd rather something feasible and realistic than awesome, though awesome as a byproduct couldn't hurt

These forums are a double edged sword. They are not representative of the entire player base, just those of us who are very dedicated to the game and want it to be all that it can. Then there are those of us who are positively jackasses about things demanding things you frankly have no right to demand. That is not to say I don't agree with some of the CCP changes (looking at the logi suits) but to say they are not trying their best to make this game successful would be an understatement of the highest caliber.
You can say this game is going to die within the next year, but CCP would know way ahead of you if that were to happen. Metric data, player base, income for the Marketplace going down. Number of games played per day. This isn't something that as of December 31st everyone is "Welp it's the end of the year time to stop playing" it is going to be a graphable decline in their business projections. If there were any indications that Dust or Eve were to die within the next year CCP would be taking a lot more steps to resolve the issue.
Yet all you see on their website is job openings and expansion of their offices. You don't make those kind of business decisions blind unless you know what is in the foreseeable future. Unless of course you have no common sense in business. Eve has been around for 10 years, I've played off and on all those 10 years. I have the anniversary edition of the game. Those kind of products are not made easily and the cost that went into them had to be justified.
So while the game is being developed slower than many of us would like I still believe from a business executive stand point that Dust is still viable. All their indications are pointing to them continuing to develop the game. So how about some of you armchair businessmen focus on something you're good at instead of focusing on the business and viability of both CCP and Dust, okay? |

I still cant believe they have got people to believe that it takes 2 years to produce a suit that runs .X m/s faster and takes Y HP more damage and some weapons that vary in a similar matter. This is not even touching vehicles.
we have heard "its art and that takes time" then "the assets have be done long ago" but still nothing then "balance" that one really is funny given this game then "new EP" dont know what a change at the top has to do with producing basic content which should have been there from launch.
I enjoy this game and will probably continue to play until something else comes along and totally consumes my time. Even in the state its in I still enjoy playing but CCP really should understand that people are sick of the excuses and would just like to see progress or at least hear valid reasons why somethings arent happening.
On basic content - there are no excuses, there is no reasoning. They just need to deliver as soon as possible and then move into the new phase of building for the future expansions.

You have finite number of resources in an office. So Master Smurf for this Socratic Exercise you're going to be the office manager. You have your staff that you now need to divide into teams. Like artists, programmers and testers/balances (whatever you want to call them). You currently have multiple projects on your plate and 50 employees.
1. Introducing new content (armor, guns, maps) 2. Balancing Content (New and old) 3. Art and design for all projects 4. Managing interaction with the player base
These are just broad categories, refine them as you wish. Not every project is finished. You and your staff work on average 8-10 hours per day. You have 30 days to refine as much as you can before having to release this content. Each person will work between 240 - 300 hours per month. More if you force overtime every single day of the week. Now this your show. How do you divide your assets? |

Confirming that the above statement is NOT total bull****.
I've seen CCP during slow periods, I've seen CCP during periods where they've just been doing a s**** of communicating about work they absolutely should be sharing with the public, this does not qualify as either.
This is hands down the most productive period I've seen since taking office as a CPM rep, the studio is growing faster than ever before, and there are concrete plans guiding this process. The lack of information shared at this time is intentional (and in my opinion, for completely understandable reasons). CCP wants to be sure their communications are of substance moving forward, in sharp contrast to last year's FF where a bunch of hype was dished out without much regard to feasibility.
Once Rouge is ready to show what he's been preparing for everyone, you'll likely see the communication frequency increase sharply again (and become regular). The silence for the past few months is very specific to the current work in progress, I don't have any indication from where I sit that it will be a trend. I applaud Rouge and the rest of upper management (and the new dev staff) for being so forthcoming with the CPM about their plans, every step of the way.
There will be an end to this, that's all I can say at this time. I totally understand where you guys are coming from, I'd be going bonkers if I wasn't one of the few CCP is consulting about their work-in-progress. Your frustration is completely justified. Believe me, I was around last summer when communication was really in the dumps, and it was because of CCP employees failing to do their jobs to engage the public. I've always called this **** out when it happens. The reasons for the silence have changed sharply in the last few months however, even if the end result for public has not.
Anyways, I won't belabor the point I just wanted to stop by and give you guys what little perspective I can. I look forward to the next couple of months as everyone is brought up to speed finally on where Dust is going. And it is going places. I've never seen more investment in the game (by all measurements: financially, manpower, etc) than I have since Rouge has come on board. |

Expansion of my previous post. As I do not have experience managing a game studio. How long does it take to go from concept in an art program to modeling? How you program that new content? Is a week for each piece? How long is it for a map? Do you have to model each height object so that fall damage is calculated correctly? After all that is done and rough balance is achieved how long does it take then to get put into the real game?
The coming content how long as then been done for? Or is it being modified constantly up to the point of release? These are all things you will need to consider in this Socratic Exercise. |

What does that have to do with communicating with the public if you have staff devoted to that aspect.
So stuff slipped because changes in focus needed to be made - do you think Soon (tm) is an appropriate response for months. Then why employ anyone to fill those roles, just post soon until your next development is done.
I also dont understand how you plan to launch a product and you cant get your basic requirements in that window, not even 3-6 months after your launch????
Things further down the roadmap I will forgive and have long since stopped most of my critical posts but on the topic of basic content I make no apologies. IMO its unacceptable.

From what I've seen him post in the past he comes across as a straight shooter and even though I dont know him, I like what he posts and where he would like to see the game go.
Its not like in the past where a certain CPM seemed like de facto spokesperson, and chief defender.
Now if things continue to slip then obviously all hope in CCP's productivity will be lost and nobody will be able to vouch for them. At this point in time I choose to listen to someone I trust who is closer to the situation than us and give CCP a stay of execution

@ OP:
Quite frankly, most of the promises made by the previous EP did not happen because shortly after making those promises, he was no longer with CCP.
It's still unclear to this day how much of those promises were even in the pipeline or if he basically just went up on stage basically saying whatever cool stuff his underlings had fed to him without fully realizing the time and effort involved in realizing those. It's also irrelevant.
It is also reasonable and safe for anyone to assume that the bulk of the promises will not happen as stated by an EP who is no longer at the helm.
Like you, The CPM held up a lot of the previous promises during our initial meetings with CCP Rouge shortly after his arrival... Stating that it was these promises that got people excited and what made people want to keep playing. In response he said something that really hit home: "Should we really be trying to live up to old promises and goals made foolishly that left us with dust as it is now... or strive to set new goals to make it the game it always should have been?"
Not making promises without being able to back them up is a lesson that CCP is slowly learning, and one of the reasons why we're not seeing much from them recently, despite a few showerings of awesome attentiveness from a few of the devs (Balance feedback threads for 1.8, etc.) This is something we're glad for. We'd much rather have CCP delivering news of things that are actually being worked on and time feasible, than just saying whatever they can to try to draw people in because it sounds ~cool as hell~.
To echo Heinrich and Saberwing : Suffice it to say... There IS a plan, and with new leadership comes new goals and ideals. Without hearing this plan for yourselves, it is understandable for you to have doubts. Like anything... some will approve, others will disapprove. We have been in constant talks with CCP trying to nail down the details of where and when certain details get released (We're always pushing for information being released sooner than later... like the 1.8 balancing stuff)
I won't blame anyone for not trusting this faith we have in Rouge, but I can only hope that once he starts getting his stuff out there, people will share our optimism for a bright future for Dust.

Until we hear this plan for ourselves, there is nothing CCP could say that would allay our concerns for the future of the title.
Until CCP decides that the people who play this game deserve to have some idea of where the game is going and a rough estimate of how long it might take for certain things to be done, then the community will remain as toxic and cynical as it has become.
I stopped playing Eve because I grew sick of hearing SoonGäó instead of a real plan, and that same attitude will eventually drive me from Dust.
If CCP wants us to accept that they have a plan, they should provide some info. If CCP wants a community that isn't waiting for things that are not coming, maybe they should come out and say that item X,Y, and Z are off the table.
For myself, I have no faith in CCP, nor will I become some optimist based on some words posted on a forum. If CCP wants to wait to fanfest to release a small amount of info, expect that I will be laughing my ass off when the community freaks out.
There are very few developers who can get away with saying "We will release info when it is ready, and the product when it is ready" and have people place faith in them. CCP is not one of those companies. They have a long track record of completely crapping the bed, so betting on them to succeed is a surefire way to end up broke.
I am going to give CCP until Fanfest to get their house in order. By the end of fanfest, if there is not substantial changes to the way CCP informs the playerbase of where development stands and where it is heading, I'm out. I have invested more than enough time and money into this game. If CCP spends fanfest getting hteir egos stroked and saying SoonGäó, I'll gladly biomass all my characters and forget that I ever played a CCP product.
A developer that produces substandard software and then has the audacity to act as if what they are working on and its progress are nuclear secrets is the type of developer that does not deserve my respect, my time, or my money.

aka SoonGäó
FFS. If all you can do is make a promise for info later then don't post.
How is this so difficult for you guys to grasp?
Don't make posts that you are working on dev blogs. Just work on the dev blogs.
Don't say there is a plan, provide some tangible info or don't mention it.
Don't say that you don't want to mislead the community and then fall back into the old CCP trap of telling people to hurry up and wait.
You want our money, earn it like a professional.

I've seen some footage of Hawken on youtube. Also an F2P game, although for PC. Now that game impressed me as something polished and worthy of fair competition in the mainstream market. What stops Dust from hitting the same mark? Money? Greed? Incompetent leadership? Overambitious plan that does not mesh well with resources to execute it?
Hell if I know. But those are all the questions I've been asking myself. And none of them are flattering for CCP. Whatever Dust has right now - not talking about not having cool new content - is just poor.
Balance is poor. Maps (majority, and Manus peak at the helm) are poor. Communication is poor. Mechanics ridden with glitches (can't fix sprinting glitch for 2 months where it feels like you are walking through water instead of sprinting- are you kidding me?) are poor. Competitive games (i.e. PC) execution is poor. Sound (looping on and on and on after the end of the match) is poor. Mic not working in team chat is poor.
What having Saberwing show up in the forums now all of a sudden excuses all of this? Or all of this is because of the old Evil EP and the rest of the Dev team are razor sharp pro's? This is an insult to intelligence when ppl make these excuses for CCP.
