We've come to the point where people have to chose anyway. When dropsuit hardeners come, we're definitely there. You'll have to chose what speed you want, if you wanna be tanked or hardened, if you wanna be stealthy or hard hitting...
And I do not think it's a bad thing.
So if you moan about scanners, then you have already made your choice about your avatars preferred playing style. No need to moan. |

I love my stealth setups, sadly I have to run my ck.0 suits to have viable stealth setups and even then im 2-3 viziam shots from death. My major grief is how scanners are completely ruining NPE. Your enemy has more damage, more health, more of everything, and constantly knows where you are and the direction you are moving. When I play my alts and run solo this build becomes rage inducing.
What's not to love about the scrambler rifle, the thing is a precision weapon and at the same time a shotgun.

These days I typically run a 8k ISK BPO scout fit - Dren Scout, Dren Shotty, Syndicate SMG, 1x Complex Shield, 1x Basic Reactive Plate, 1x Militia Range Amplifier, Remote Explosives, Flux Grenade. If the other team runs proto scans I swap in an enhanced dampener for my Reactive plate.
So yes, I can still stomp protos even in a fit that has under 350 EHP and is less than 8k ISK. |

The real question is, are you a good enough player to kill a proto player when his back is turned, at whatever engagement distance you choose? If the answer is consistently "no", dampening won' t help you. Well, of course it has it's advantages...
But why am I FORCED into stealthy paystyle because someone used an incredibly powerful equipment?
Now that it has been nerfed so you can't do 360 degree scans and you can't perma scan, you can actually flank and do other manevours.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

You aren't forced to run profile dampeners if you don't want to. Chances are the proto squad doing the stomping certainly isn't running dampeners. But if you aren't going to use dampeners and try to flank by yourself - good luck.
I agree that in 1.8 active scanning will be quite awful so dampening won't be as important, so long as when you flank, you do so from a direction that your enemy isn't watching/scanning. |

It completely breaks flanking and other manevours.
So much truth in this post. It forces enemies to use brainless frontal attacks (because flanking is impossible) and end up vs a 1k ehp proto rifle instakill derp-logi.

If you're using a stealth suit and not flanking but engaging an enemy in a direct fight, then you're doing it wrong. The advantage of stealth is being able to get your enemy down to a half or quarter of their HP before they even know where you're shooting from.
I'd say that 360* scans actually makes stealth flanking easier due to the false sense of security they impart and the tunnel vision that people get when they focus on your allies off in one direction while you are picking off enemies from the rear.

Venerable Phage wrote:Let's get this straight the fix for a single piece of equipment at level 1 skill 12k SP
is two proto modules in lows, a level 5 skill and what 1.5M sp? Not sure just doing the maths off memory.
So a lot of CPU, 100x the SP and gimping your armour. Seems a fair trade.
Mind you I play a scout and even my heavy HMG goes forth with an enhanced dampener... You can almost hear them clench when they round the corner in a medium suit.
Anyhow. How is it balanced or even a viable option to require proto equipment to remain hidden at 100m and how does a noob get the SP there?
Scanners are not only out of proportion to their counters they also are vastly superior to their passive scan counter parts.
Level 5 passive range increase on a medium suit will give you a range of 15m vs 24m on a light. Level 1 scanner will give you a range of 100m
Level 5 passive precision will give a medium what 45? Or is it 49.5db Level 1 scanner again trumps that.
So you have a basic piece of equipment that is much better at level 1 skill then two skills at level 5. And then that ability gets shared across the squad and nets extra WP. Effectively cost wise it's SP is shared across the squad as it is a shared effect. So for a full squad they could all be level five passive skills x2 or have one active scanner level 1 and the single active scanner is going to cover four times the area more accurately and share it between all of them.
I think the combination of being much better then its passive skill equivalents (its the RE to the poxie proxie or the RR to the AR) with a very difficult counter (multiple forges to perma hardened tanks). Means that it is logical that people will moan about them. wow, the stupid is strong in this one...smh.

Or many of the scouts left in the game have been playing said game for over a year and know exactly what they are talking about.
Just a thought.
And to be honest I don't feel the cloak is going to help scouts as much as others seem to think, I can stay out of sight extremely well without it personally.
