Oh my. If you automatically assume that you'll get stomped because you have less HP on a dampened suit, you obviously haven't used one or have played scout to a significant degree.
The real question is, are you a good enough player to kill a proto player when his back is turned, at whatever engagement distance you choose? If the answer is consistently "no", dampening won' t help you. |

You might wanna try hitting the guy you're aiming at, next time. If you can't do that, get closer. If you can't do that even when you're closer, this game probably isn't for you.
And by the way, the key to using a dampened suit successfully is also having a way to scan your enemies. So make sure you have a scanner or your squad is scanning. Going un-scanned, yet knowing where your enemies are, is a huge advantage. |

If you can't kill them when you have the drop on them, then you can't kill them when you have extra HP and they know you're coming. I'd say that's a problem of player skill, not of the HP disadvantage of dampening itself. |

These days I typically run a 8k ISK BPO scout fit - Dren Scout, Dren Shotty, Syndicate SMG, 1x Complex Shield, 1x Basic Reactive Plate, 1x Militia Range Amplifier, Remote Explosives, Flux Grenade. If the other team runs proto scans I swap in an enhanced dampener for my Reactive plate.
So yes, I can still stomp protos even in a fit that has under 350 EHP and is less than 8k ISK. |

If the answer is consistently "no", dampening won' t help you. Well, of course it has it's advantages... But why am I FORCED into stealthy paystyle because someone used an incredibly powerful equipment? Now that it has been nerfed so you can't do 360 degree scans and you can't perma scan, you can actually flank and do other manevours.
You aren't forced to run profile dampeners if you don't want to. Chances are the proto squad doing the stomping certainly isn't running dampeners. But if you aren't going to use dampeners and try to flank by yourself - good luck.
I agree that in 1.8 active scanning will be quite awful so dampening won't be as important, so long as when you flank, you do so from a direction that your enemy isn't watching/scanning. |

So... You used two slots to hide from a brick tanked permascan proto logi who didn't have to give up one slot.
So if you meet in direct battle, he wins. Not only that, but his squad benefits from it too.
It completely breaks flanking and other manevours.
So much truth in this post. It forces enemies to use brainless frontal attacks (because flanking is impossible) and end up vs a 1k ehp proto rifle instakill derp-logi.
If you're using a stealth suit and not flanking but engaging an enemy in a direct fight, then you're doing it wrong. The advantage of stealth is being able to get your enemy down to a half or quarter of their HP before they even know where you're shooting from.
I'd say that 360* scans actually makes stealth flanking easier due to the false sense of security they impart and the tunnel vision that people get when they focus on your allies off in one direction while you are picking off enemies from the rear.
