Is anybody else concerned about scouts in 1.8? I know there is strong speculation that they will become the new FOTM and I would rather they don't get nerfed. I don't think outdoors maps will be too bad as you can see them but CQC maps like the Gallente Research Lab are going to be horrible, there will be scout everywhere and nobody will be able to see them. Nobody except for scouts will want to enter a building for fear of getting killed by 3 scouts hiding around corners and they are completely undetectable unless you run proto.
So I predict that people will start avoiding CQC locations like the plague because they like living and should they dare to venture in they will probably run proto so take your pick; death by invisible scouts or protostomp? |

It's about damn time!
Every FPS game I've played, I gravitated towards the stealth cqc role or the mid long range marksman. Flanking was a good way to net some kills in a scout before scanners appeared. It pisses me off every time I flank an entire enemy squad just to get scanned, bum rushed, and inevitably killed by some logi rocking close to 800 ehp.
If the Gal scout still gets the bonus towards dampening in 1.8, I might park my tanks and run on the ground more.

Really depends a lot on how invisible they are. CCP stated back in that old equipment dev blog that the cloak isn't a 100% invisibility even when standing still, so if that is still true that could easily change a lot of perceptions. And if not, maybe people need to start spraying bullets when they enter CQC areas just in case
If the cloaking is only as invisible as it was in say Red Faction Guerrilla then it should still be very useful while at the same time not being something you can simply camp a corner with.

When the QQ about scouts start cropping up after 1.8 I will only say "I told you so". And it's not just about scanners, it's more about the fact that there is no good counter to a dampened scout. Nobody will be able to scan them, even more so since in 1.8 they can avoid ADV scanners without any skills at all.

The scout is geared towards stealth. If a scout gives up EHP for stealth, there shouldn't be a hard counter for that. Scanners should work off of a suits precision level. Wanna scan that scout? Give up your high slots for precision enhancers. Whats worse, scanners invalidated the entire scout play style since they were introduced as a working piece of equipment.
I'll reply to all the 1.8 QQ with HTFU, GIT GUD!. I can't wait to see how bad some of the scanner scrub's situational awareness is.

I am a little sad that there will be a huge influx of scouts on 1.8 release, however they wont be able to hide too much. Im used to fighting all types with my scout. Everything dies if you hit it hard enough. Invisible also isnt silent and my scan range is pretty respectable. Not to mention I actually run precision enhancers specifically to hunt scouts.

We already see how irritating things are when something lacks a good counter (tanks). I think CCP tried to give the Caldari scout a more "anti-scout" role by it having a reduction to scan dB as part of it's bonus but it won't be enough naturally to detect a scout with zero skill so what is the point? |

So you are telling me a heavy is going to be scared of a scout or two?
A sentinel and commando with a logi (Min for rep, Cal for hives or Gal for scanning) can make short work of most scouts inside an area.
Cloak supposedly can be detected visibly and audibly.
So this seems to be an issue for Mediums who want to roam alone. No longer are you kings of the castle. - There will be different kings given the situation

uh I dont know if you have ever played scout before but we dont have alot of eHP, if your seen and not already moving for cover your dead
personal opinion is that the majority of todays scouts dont have the patience to sit in a corner to camp.. sure we might come ripping through an area to check, bait you into ambushes/REs but I dont see alot of us giving up the mobility to sit in a corner in cloak
thats more of a heavy thing
tomorrows scouts(1.8) might be different but well you have ridiculous heavies to deal with that |

Guys you already know exactly how the cloak will look and behave. You see it every time you spawn in or if you carefully watch reds spawn in - there is the cloaking effect.
It will be hard to see but they ARE a tiny bit visible. Just remember reticle should still glow red when an enemy passes. |

I have Gallente scout to IV and logi to V (before it was thing) so yes I have played scout before. Thing is I had to put four levels into scouts and three into profile dampening to avoid ADV scanners (the most commonly used ones) where as in 1.8 all scout suits will be able to avoid them with zero SP investment. I have had plenty of matches where I just waited around a corner for people to walk by, almost felt bad when they looked both ways and thought it was actually safe. Now with the resistance sentinel suits are getting the Caldari and Gallente sentinels will be very difficult for a shotty scout to kill. Will probably take 4-5 shots at least. |

I've always main the Gallente Scout. Now that we can avoid advanced scanners without any points invested, I feel kind of robbed since our scan dampning bonus will only be useful against proto scanners, but whatever.
I might not run dampners anymore. That's all there is to it. My racial bonus will take care of the rest. Be afraid. Be very afraid. |

so what I am reading here is your upset that new players can get into a suit and avoid getting scanned in a suit that isnt suppose to be easily scannable without spending 2.8 million SP to take it to proto lvl
Im upset that new players can jump into a hvy suit and immediatley have 4 - 5 times my HP without taking it to proto lvl
its the point of the suit, without having the low scan threshold it completely negates the suit and makes it impossible for new scouts to even get into the class.
And I dont think a Gall LogiV really has to worry about that |

I'm not seeing the problem here. Scouts are an important battlefield element. They need to be invisible, and they need to be viable. This heavy will gladly walk into the research lab looking for those three scouts. |
