It's hard enough to get another scout to knife battle me.
But Clone D, if I see you in game near something hackable I will gladly trade hacks with you. Just make sure it's something like a turret/CRU/SD and not an objective, because those take way too long. |

Clone D wrote:Does anyone have any information concerning the time that it takes to complete a hack at the various Systems Hacking skill graduations and with various code breakers applied?
Scout cooperation actually sounds like an auspicious way to earn big WP.
Let's say that we establish standard locations to meet up on the various maps and that each scout takes approximately 1 minute to get there and that scouts are tanked with codebreakers (I named my hacker suit "Aardvark").
Assuming that a round lasts 15 minutes, that an average hack takes 4 seconds and there is a 1 second delay between opposing scout hacks, that gives the following formula
[ (15 min round - 1 min commute) / (4 sec hack + 1 sec buffer) ] / 2 people = 84 hacks each
84 * 50 = 4200 WP each
Of course, if we hack faster and reduce overhead between hacks, this method could yield hundreds or thousands of more WP.
I say we implement this exigently.
Time to start designating rendezvous points.
Recommended Protocol
Scouts meet at an established rendezvous point.
We also need a sign that we intend to cooperate, like dancing around in a circle without attacking.
Establish trust at rendezvous point. Remember the name(s) of the other scout(s).
After scouts establish trust at rendezvous point, then one scout leads the other(s) to a choice objective to commence hacking.
Caveats
Saboteurs may learn of the rendezvous points and imitate the authentication behavior to gain trust and then go for the kill when the other scout least suspects it.
Hunters may watch the map for this behavior (objectives changing red/blue every 5 seconds) and go for the kill.
Remediation
Desist activity for duration of match.
If you encounter and recognize the cooperative scout elsewhere, resume activity.
Hold the phone, you don't have enough time to play Dust to earn by winning matches so you want to be able to directly pay for SP in a P2W scenario... but you have time for the above nonsense instead of killing other players and winning the match...
Never have I been more certain that you are a troll. Before, I thought OP might have been someone very new to Dust or gaming in general. Maybe someone with more money than sense.
Consider your posts hidden OP.

What a fail.
It's funny this thread pops up now, I just stopped one of these yesterday! These two n00bs were taking turns hacking a railgun until I happened to pass by and hack C. While defending the hack I saw what they were doing a proceeded to **** up the farming. I camped C like a boss with my Adv scanner and CR and anytime that n00b left his redline I ended him. This happened like 7 times in a row before they gave up and then the game ended a minute later.
The enemy n00b was in proto gear as well lol... |

Awesome. The other day, I saw some enemy n00b in a heavy suit killing a bunch of other n00bs, so I ended his career with my militia scrambler pistols.
There's more than one way to play the game. The only fail is when players cease having fun, but play out of maniacal obsession. Even then, it doesn't harm me, so what's wrong with that?
If you camp out and farm cooperative scouts, swell. If they're smart, they'll adapt to your behavior.

This should be a de facto behavior for scouts. We could be farming tons of WP.
Here's how I see the scenario playing out.
You just finished hacking a reanimation unit in a remote area of the map and turn around to see an opponent scout standing there. Yes he could have killed you while you were hacking, but instead he shows no signs of hostility.
Then he proceeds to hack the reanimation unit and stands back. Then you hack the reanimation unit. Then he hacks ....
This would be way more lucrative than killing each other. Approx. 4200 WP each.
I would be down with that....but people keep killing me...

We can develop a protocol to indicate cooperation, like dancing around in a circle without attacking. This is easy enough to recognize, and is somewhat tactical in the event that the scout you are attempting to befriend is hostile.

This is New Eden, not all clones are down there to kill and have no second thoughts, where are the tricksters, the sooth sayers, the calm collected WP farming saboteurs. There needs to be a way to talk with the enemy. Maybe this could involve an equipment module and work like a squad command order.
Not a very good idea, but though I would contribute it any way.
Actually, we are all down there to kill without a second thought. W're mercenaries on contract to do exactly that.

You're limited in how many wp you can get this way. Each team only has a certain number of clones and the others on your team will often use as much as half of them in a good match.
If you were going to collude with an opponent scout, something like a turret would be the best way to go. CRU there's always a chance of someone spawning nearby and a supply depot there's a chance someone will run out of ammo. Hardly anyone uses a turret, assuming the tankers left any you can both get at.

Agreed, cooperatively killing each other is not the best way to farm WP.
Let's assume 2 cooperative opponents are able to kill each other 30 times in a match. That's still only 1500 WP each. Not that much compared to taking turns hacking an objective.
Taking turns hacking an objective requires nothing but to gain the trust and cooperation of the opponent.
- No wasting dropsuits - No unnecessary deaths - No wasted equipment - Massive WP (approx. 4200 or more)
Trading hacks really should become a trend. It makes a lot of sense.

It makes a lot of sense. The original exchanging deaths suggestion was using headshots which are 60 wp's each. So that would be 1800 in total for 30 kills each. If you could be sure that no-one else would spawn there, you could do it at a CRU, hack then let your 'opponent' kill you, then once you've spawned they hack and you kill them etc. to boost your wp some more. Of course then you'll get one of their players spawn whilst it's hacked to their team and kill you anyway.
Oh, and since reading this thread, I'll be keeping an eye on hackables in the games I play to make sure no-one's trying this. I'll happily be the one to put an end to the cycle. :) Easy kill that way.

Yes, a lot of mercs kill people while they're hacking. It's just part of gameplay.
If the cooperating hackers get in a few cycles of hacks, it would be worth getting caught at it.
5 cycles = 250 points
1 kill = 50 points
not to mention that the cooperating hacker on your team may send a few grenades your way.
It's just a fun idea to think about.

I've kind of done this when in a squad and it was 6v1. We let him hack objectives then moved in to rehack, pull back, rinse and repeat. We figured it was only fair since he had the balls to stick around solo...I didn't pay attention to how the WP worked out, but it was a null cannon terminal, CRU and resupply depot. Only time I've done it, most people just leave if they're solo.
The one time I tried it with the tables turned it was 1v8....they weren't quite so polite, so I left. |

Walking around hunting for these activities may not be the most efficient use of time, because they will most likely be occurring in remote areas away from enemy engagements where there are many more kills to be had.
The element of a merc travelling a long distance to stop this behavior is enough to discourage hunters from wasting time hiking out to stop these activities.
Besides, it will be scarce, and after a while hunters may realize that they're wasting their time looking for this.
Either way, best of luck to you and thanks for contributing the point about the headshots = 1800.
Overall, if scouts begin using this technique, then I would be interested to watch their WP skyrocket.

I just need to keep an eye on the map, if I see an objective changing hands frequently and a blue standing near it then I get myself into a position to snipe it. It's a lot easier if it's a CRU or Supply depot, they flash up with warnings every time someone's hacking one.

I wonder what the chances are that anyone will actually monitor the map for this activity, again since it will be scarce. Most likely, the hunter would get bored and return to sniping or the front lines.
Remember, watching for this activity does nothing for the hunter.
Participating in the activity is highly lucrative for the cooperating hackers, even if they do get killed.

The payoff of a knife battle is 50 WP + personal satisfaction. So the temptation to just shoot the opponent and get it over with quickly is too great.
The payoff of trading hacks could be thousands of WP. This option should be downright irresistible!
