What does not make since to me. This is not a QQ or rage thread it is I cant believe they think this should be a reality in this game thread.
What does not make since.... The fact that Nova Knifes can cut through multiple layers of armor plating and be the length of a butter knife
What does not make since..... The fact the laser rifle works backwards, that the further the target is from you the more damage you do but the closer they are the weaker the beam is
What does not make since.... The fact that we are in the future and we are still using Shotguns, assault rifles, or any other weapon that uses gun powder
What does not make since.... The fact our tanks still use tracks
Ok I have given some examples what are yours????????

Actually I believe the shotgun and assault riffle are a plasma/gas propellant weapons.
Also I believe the word you're looking for is "sense" instead of "since".

They should strive for it if they can

I agree

its not backwards, there is an optimal distance if the function is similar to a magnifying glass.

they don't use gunpowder, but I agree what it is a bit of ww2 in space

What does not make since.... The OP
But in seriousness, it doesn't make sense how CCP can have such an awesome resource as the experience they've gained in making EVE and throw it out the window. How often do the DUST guys collaborate with the EVE guys on issues on integration when they're offices are about as physically distant as possible on this Earth? How could the DUST guys pass up on the opportunity to use tried and true mechanics from eve (such as unique racial versions of different in game objects)?

I also forgot to address your base question, so my apologies on that
1) Why do we carry two nova knives? Piercing is more effective than slashing when using a knife, which piercing is much more difficult with two knives.
2) The idea the 4 factions reward everybody the same regardless of performance
3) The idea that dust players can be mercs despite the fact that we were created by the 4 factions which should of been able to control our clone supply, thus making us dependent
4) Attacking our individual clones vs attacking the storage facilities of our clones

I mean the production facilities that are aligned with a particular faction in general which produce the bodies which we bring to the MCC (or for EVE pilots)
Essentially similar to how WW2 attacks were made on industrial cities, the MCC is just a transport of military supplies, I'm talking about hitting the source.

Nova knives seem fairly long (8" blade ish? maybe) 8" is enough to reach the spine from the front. Reduce that number by 1 or 2 from the armour, that's still 6" into the body, easily to cause severe damage to any organ.
The current 'shotgun' and 'assault rifle' (hopefully renamed to plasma rifle soon) are both plasma weapons. Both take lead 'charges' (lead attached to a special fuse which converts the solid to a plasma) and fire plasma bolts.
The shotgun doesn't really make all that much sense considering it's loading animation vs the 'pellets fired' (would make more sense if it fired a cone of plasma instead).
The plasma rifle take the lead plasma, compresses it into a bolt in a cyclotron, then fires it at tremendous velocity via electromagnetic rails (similar to a railgun). The bolt is held together in a magnetic 'bottle', a field that keeps the plasma together for a very very short time, which is why plasma weapons have very short ranges. When the bolt impacts an object, the magnetic field collapses at the contact point and the plasma is vented through.
Gunpowder weapons are still very effective in the future, especially since the materials used have evolved drastically. More powerful propellants and lighter weight materials, better recoil dampening, very advanced projectile design and composition, etc. Plus they have the advantage of being mechanical, therefore immune to electronic interference, and reliable / easy to maintain.
And why wouldn't tanks use tracks? Tracks are great.

1: Nova Knifes are really plasma blades. Think light sabre but tiny.... but it's plasma instead of an actual laser.
2: Never understood that either, as well as the fact that it drops off after only 10m
3: shotties, and every weapon other the CR and SMG, HMG, and MD isn't using gunpower. Even then, the gunpower is probably more advanced than what we use toda, and the bullets are tipped with tritanium, and that's very explosive. Think bullet with a stick of TNT at the end.
4: We're only 8000 years in the future. Yes, we have hover cars, but hover tech isn't very good compared to the tracks. Very unreliable.

I know EVE spaceships use submarine logic (which contradicts our current understanding of space flight), thus track tanks might just be shortcuts to game design, but the idea that weight/energy can effect function is not totally outside the realm of possibilities here. Similar to how scaling down real world rail tech is currently difficult without it wearing out to fast, hover technology might have weight/power efficiency problems to where its just more reliable to have tracks.
Not life or death just stating that there could be a potential feasible limitation, but you are probably right.

What doesn't make sense is that fact that CCP showed a fully operable gallente fighter jet 4 years ago in their first few gameplay videos for Dust, and we have NEVER seen another image of that fighter ever again...
What doesn't make sense is that they also showed a warbarge with not only a working holographic map, but a war-room where you can view trophies and hologram versions of vehicles you currently own, this was also used in their propaganda gameplay footage from 4 years ago.
What doesn't make sense is that CCP practically wiped a lot of its members working on Dust after the "uprising debacle", and with this new staff in place, they have re-created OP tank issues that were present in chromosome.

Nova knives are a good 8 inches long. As for laser rifles maybe you never torched ants with a magnifying glass as a kid or maybe you're just dumb but there's a simple thing called beam coherency. 'Assault rifle' and 'shotgun' are colloquial terms for 'plasma bolt gun' (its mean operating temperatures can sear flesh off the bone and it doesn't have crap on the scr or LR in terms of feedback) and 'plasma shrapnel flamethrower' (that armature on the 'shotgun' is designed to prevent it from either ripping your arm off with the kick or flying out of your hands and exploding because you couldn't flush the cyclotron with coolant manually). The minmatar use 'conventional' weapons but they're mostly gyro jets with high explosive warheads or in some cases phased plasma or nuclear tips, but they follow a pretty strict policy of 'keep it simple stupid' in fact they're rather widely regarded in setting for being able to use rather primitive means to great ends - ie starships from scrap metal and duct tape with a few solar panels, or functioning guns from relatively little. Tracked tanks? Easier to fix **** if things go wrong than complex hover systems.

Nanohives, drop uplinks, supply depots, CRUs. Any situation where stuff appears out of nowhere.
Nanohives should be replaced with resupply beacons; after you drop one a high altitude dropship (too high to be seen) drops an ammo crate into the beacon. You then have to actively access the crate (like a short hack) at which point you get a full ammo top up.
Drop uplinks should be beacons as well: you drop onto them like you drop out of the MCC.
Supply depots should be accessed in the same way as nanohives for ammo. If you want to change suits you should "enter" the depot, and changing suit should take a few seconds.
You should spawn inside CRUs, and exit through a door. If the door is camped, or there is another player blocking it, tough.
And yes, I realise that this means that hives and uplinks will only work outdoors.

It's reasonable for it to cut deeper than the length of the physical blade. Not to mention the advanced armour layers aren't necessarily all that thick individually.
Quote:What does not make sense..... The fact the laser rifle works backwards, that the further the target is from you the more damage you do but the closer they are the weaker the beam is Lasers use a lens to focus the beam down to a point, much like how you can use a magnifying glass to focus sunlight onto a piece of paper and set it on fire. The closer you are to that focal point, the more damaging the beam will be, and at any range shorter OR longer than the focus distance, the heat produced - and therefore the damage dealt - will be reduced.
Quote:What does not make sense.... The fact that we are in the future and we are still using Shotguns, assault rifles, or any other weapon that uses gun powder Gallente Assault Rifle and Shotgun don't use gunpowder, they're plasma-based weapons. Caldari have a Rail Rifle, and even the "low-tech" Minmatar weapon uses more advanced explosive technology than modern gunpowder.
Quote:What does not make sense.... The fact our tanks still use tracks There's a reason modern tanks are still on tracks. They provide efficient movement over a wide variety of terrain types while also remaining highly durable against enemy attacks.
What doesn't make sense to me is that HAVs with tracks can move significantly faster than a wheeled LAV. |
