Damn I was just in a game on my main fighting against a whole squad of combat rifle geezers.
My god that weapon spits bullets at incredible rates and does crazy damage. Granted I was in a toxin cheap ass suit , I had 400 shields 200+ armour, but they went through me like a hot knife through butter.
I am talking about the 1 v 1 encounters btw....
I dont think a point blank HMG would do that much damage so fast haha it is kind of crazy! Plus it seems to be a good medium range weapon too. Then again I use KB/M and all the controller boys seem to stick to me like glue no matter if I try and shake them off. |

Sorry but you can't just play two games with one test for each rifle and make an educated factual conclusion. That doesn't give you any evidence that they are overpowered. You have just been part of a game where you were in the right place at the right time or perhaps your a CQC battle guy in which the Combat Rifle is meant for. I had games with the rail rifle and went 34 and 2 at just base level but other times i couldn't do squat. You need multiple test samples under many different environments including a proto stomp area, new-berry area and etc. Besides have you consider the ammunition consumption of the gun? You burn through ammo like its going out of style. You sir, are why we can't have nice things.
Isn't this how racism and stereotyping starts? Oh look 2 black guys are good at basketball...I guess that means ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE GOOD AT BASKETBALL!

It really does... it shows how easy it is to pick it up with no experience and to nail a good game... Turns out I did 6.3x better just because I used the different gun, not only better, but better than I usually do with the SCR anyway...

First match on my main i took my recruit BPO and tried it with the rail and the CR. Rail won tremendously. Don't CQC with the RR? Seems to be my advice. Railrifles are easy as $h1t to counter: peekaboo and burstfire. On the other hand, the RR wins unanimously at the Adv tier around 80 or so meters. RR also has no recoil for the first 3-5 shots. So burst fire it.

Enemy in a Prototype Gallente Assault Suit, with the Standard model of Combat Rifle. Me in a Militia Caldari Assault Suit (Starter Fit, obviously), with the Standard model of Rail Rifle.
I have maxed Shield and Armour skills, for the best durability SP can buy, and I have a pair of Militia Shield Extender BPOs for the worst durability AUR can buy.
No, I wasn't fitted in such a way that I stood any chance of actually WINNING, but kitten did I come close. By the time I died, he was down to less than 1/4 armour. Shields pretty much insta-vanished when I opened fire.
I could be wrong, but I think a Protosuit should be expected to survive that encounter. Both weapons are in a relatively effective range, both are equal level, but mine was in optimum range bracket and his was firing outside its preferred range. He had a distinct HP advantage because of an upgraded suit, and I still did a LOT of damage before going down.
I will say that it felt like a LITTLE too long a range to be dying that fast to what's supposed to be a CQC weapon, so maybe loosen up the shot spread a bit or something to make it less effective at that kind of range, but other than that, the only problem I have is the same issue I have with a lot of other weapons in DUST. After hit detection fixes (thanks for that, by the way), it now feels like TTK is slightly lower than I'd prefer for this kind of tactical combat with super-energy-shielded nanotech cyborg clones. |

If it's the standard CR, it's meant for mid-long range. It's got an ACOG specifically for it. The full auto however is definitely close range, there is no going mid range with it even, it's spread is worse than the SMG.
There is no need to adjust this weapon unless it is to tighten the ADS bullet spread for the full auto variant. It's very well balanced.

tried all the variant of the CR tonight, i've skilled it to 5 prof V and 4 in sharpshooter, it's a really good weapon, the full auto variant seem pretty balanced to me, i got to say i was quite impress by the damage output of the burst, it may be a little too much, but it doesn't have the charged shot of a scram, i dunno too early to say if it's OP but it remind me of the glory days of the allotek burst riffle, now if only tanks would let us test it in peace

Ive specced into both weapons and have been able to do good scores, around 33/4 with the CR and 37/3 with the rail and 35/2 with the SCR, but i encountered allot of squads yesterday, one time was met with 2 squads of UPS othertimes put againt Rave Tech & WTF ....not really ideal test scenarios while playing solo.
I guess when i max out the profficiencies, the 40+ scores are just a matter of time....ill also need to get used to Pre-spooling the RR when you see something move to compensate.
But they are both solid guns

It's pretty clear that you are trying to use the RR like a CR/AR and rush in CQC ... The RR is not a CQC weapon .. you have to pick your range and engage the enemy at your optimum distance ..
I got dominated by the CR using a RR because they got in close and surprised me .. but I then dominated him a few minutes later when I was aware of him and kept my distance to pick him off
As a former LR user I'm used to picking my fighting distances (the damage drop off is so bad outside of the optimum and the optimum is so small that you really have to know your distances to use it properley)
CR + AR are CQC/Mid Range Weaps .. ScR + RR are mid to long range weaps

First touch, combat rifle for sure. Rail rifle in the hands of someone who's gotten used to the hangtime from trigger pulling to firing, ridiculous, but profile dampening and shotgun still works like it used to. |

I personally found the RR to be a much higher damage output weapon an kick my ace in Cqc when I used the CR, but I started just running at people with the ACR in my gk.0 an had good results but theirs not enough in the clip to mash any logi, but if you get them when wounded its a kill jacker, if not its a assist weapon.
ARC kicks like a donky tho, an bullet spread is ugly even wit SS2 Gonna take practice , I'm good with the smg but it's funny I don't think the cr drops armor like it should I find it rips shields easier , but it's only the first day tho so we ll see |

If you have stupid blue dots you'll find both guns to be very difficult to Use in FW. CR has that crazy ROF, so you'd wipe out a blue dot that jumps on your line of fire. RR has that hard punch that'll probably save the red dot by killing that blue dot instantly.
For CR however the Assault variant has a reasonable damage for the ROF, but the boundless however is a different story.

I can see how it SEEMS over powered if you first use it but it really isn't, in fact its PERFECTLY balanced, see the CR is like an AK-74M, in the hands of an untrained soldier it is heaven but it doesn't get any better as you become skilled, as everyone eventually does, the RR is like the M16-A3, it is crap in the hands of an untrained soldier but as you become skilled it becomes MUCH better than the CR, close range, long range, mid range, hell I bet a skilled RR with an ADV Suit would WRECK against a skilled CR user with a proto suit, these two guns are very well balanced, I must say CCP, hats off to ya, for this at least. :-D |

F*** you. Stop the D*** nerf threads. No one can have anything nice without some jackoff trying to get a weapon nerfed. So you had one good game, big F***** deal. The CR and the RR are fine and should be left alone. We are have more pressing manners to attend to like Tank Spam, match making, and the release of all racial suits just to name a few.
