Out of curiosity have any of you got profile damps on your suits, or have the skill?
I find them a fantastic way of staying off of enemy scanners, I fully suggest using them.

No they do not. I use a logi suit with profile dampening 4 and 1 ADV profile dampener and hide from the scanners all the time. It is really easy to get your profile down below 36 DB. They would just rather stack armor.
They call me the C.L.I.T commander.

And i still get Scanned.
Use A Med frame,say Amarr Logi A/1 series? with 2 Cx Dam Mods?
And i still get scanned.

but I played on an alt that only has lvl 3 in damp and is a minmatar assault
and the active scanner spam was awful
I love the concept of the scanner but there is no real drawbacks
also the whole 360 degrees is something that needs to be fixed
and like someone pointed out in the other thread the a45 should be a proto or level 4 scanner
with a bit higher cpu & pg

:) you shouldn't because they get the message "some marginal error detected. Which means even though they didn't pick you up, they still know that you are there.

if they reduce scouts profile signature down from 45 to 40, then a fully skilled scout would be 27 dB

I have my Profile Dampening at 5 (on an Assault suit), with no Dampening mods. It is shameful how many times a match I see Scan Attempt Prevented. I'm a bit surprised about scanner QQ. What, do people want squad vision back? What was the point of scanners before squad vision was taken away?
I personally like the scanning mechanic (I have no SP into scanners). Got a bunch of guys in the Corp running the higher level stuff. They are about the most important troops on the field.
If anything, i'd say buff vehicle scanners, make those the top dog scanners. Got a Scout with an ungodly low Db messing with you? Call in the LAV scanner to peep him out. This way Scouts are super sneaky, but can be flushed out with enough effort. This would make top end scanning requier a bit more work than just press and spin.
But all in all, I don't have any problems with scanning as it is now. |

Well actually, If the Duvolle FOCUSED A.Scanner gets removed the scout its already in a GREAT position.
Even usable in PC's since they WILL be truly invisible.
At level 5 scout with Lv 5 Dampening the Scout can Avoid the really common ADVANCED A.Scanners. This without using Modules.
With one BASIC PROFILE DAMPENER he can already fool every Proto Scanner there is,without having to spend too much CPU, wich they heavily lack.
Reducing the Scan precision to 40 instead of 45 might work on their favor next to ANOTHER RADAR RANGE increase, to 20mts by default.
If scouts can get to be TRULY invisible in everyones radar,its already a GREAT step towards buffing them...well..US.

Who uses proto dampeners? JK but really all suits start at 50 DB The advanced scannners pick up everything over 36 DB.
The proto scanners pick up everything over 28 DB Exept the one that picks up anything over 15 DB) So we take our profile dampening skill and find out the total bonus given.
At level 5 The bonus is 10 percent if i am not mistaken so every suit already has 10 percent subtracted. Which is 5 making your suit have a 45 DB reading. It is basic math. figure it out yourself
Proto dampeners give a 25 percent reduction if i remember correctly. which gives you roughly a DB of 33ish. So i would say at least 2 profile dampeners to avoid most proto scanners. But not many people run them. get below 36 and see for yourself.

Level V scout and level V Damp does not beat Proto. Scanners without a basic damp fitted

This is honestly why I hate General Discussion. I can put up with peasant trash going blah blah blah. I can even put up with people bading mouthing my skill. What I cannot stand, is players balancing game design on public matches. The assumption is because it was a effective counter in a pub it is therefore balanced  .
In PC, people run proto scanners. Therefore, I would need to sacrifice two Highs just to stay off the radar. To a shield tanker that is suicide.
Furthermore, in order for me to counter the scanner I must either sacrifice shield or DPS, yet the opposition sacrifices a equipment slot.
How is that balanced
