I would be lawful good if I could. But at the moment we're all just dudes shooting other dudes. I feel there's a lack of meta game and there should be more of a sense of connection with the EVE universe before there can be true good and bad guys.

I think the only "good guys" in new eden are the Sisters of EVE. Everyone else is neutral or evil with 'good' intentions.
The Caldari seem to be Lawful Neutral. The law is everything to them, and ISK is their law. The intentions of the Caldari are easy to understand and usually based solely on reason.
The Minmatar are Chaotic Neutral. They live a pretty unstructured lifestyle, and their intentions are their own. Can't be reasoned with, but are not evil.
The Amarr are Lawful Evil. They follow the guidance of their God regardless of what that guidance is, even if that means enslaving an entire race of people and performing inhumane experiments on them. All in the name of everlasting universal peace... as long as you are faithful.
The Gallente are Chaotic Evil. Sex, Drugs, and above all, Power. They want to hold all the cards, and will do anything to get the upper hand, and they have done many very bad things to get it. They stand for freedom... but are willing to sacrifice freedom for power.
The Sisters of EVE are probably Neutral Good. Their intentions are to help the downtrodden, and open the EVE gate. Easily some of the most honourable people in New Eden.
The various pirate factions are different flavors of Evil. They are all in it for themselves only. Some are more evil than others, Sansha's Nation is much more evil than the Guristas for instance.

The Amarr promise a much harder path but one that is ultimately going to be better for humanity in the long run, that ends in the same place as the Gallente. I wouldn't say democracies can only function well in peace time.
I will use my home, the US, as an example. It's definitely a democracy, and definitely a world power. It has the largest military in the world, and has only had 11 years of peace time since it was founded, less than 5% of its time as a nation has been without conflict. We thrive on war and conflict it seems. I would expand further on this, but I don't want to get too heavily into US politics.
It would be more accurate to say democracies work slower than other govt' types.

Good? Bad? Frivolous and meaningless concepts of the foolish. Immortal beings are beyond such moral compartmentalizing, beyond those exercises in restriction that bind them to their death-aware reality. Any mortal meanderings that hope to define the nature of a thing are shaped by their pitifully short years; they could never dream of the wants and desires that an immortal mercenary comes to suffuse their being with. The eyes of the men and women who had lived in the now burnt out husks of the planets we have scoured show the truth of things - they might as well have been looking upon furious, divine messengers who have come to speak the glorious message of War.
And that message is: Carnage.
Good? Bad? Ask them whose cities and worlds we use to stage our brutal wars. Ask those that cower in the ruined shells of their cities after we have sated our thirst for the violence that drives us into our deathless war.
You can ask them if you can find any survivors in the ashes.
I never bother with the opinion of mere ants myself.
(As told by an Amarrian immortal super soldier implanted with alien neurotechnology: surely nothing could ever go wrong with that! Personally, I don't see my dude as good or bad or neutral. He's just in motion, acting in the moment, responding to those moments in a terrible display of violence.) |

We live in a represtative republic - which a type of a democracy - not a full blow democracy. A democracy is basically mob rule. We don't have much peace time because we deploy all over the world instead of minding our business.

The U.S. is a republic. We're a nation based on law. Democracy is an ideal. Capitalism is our basis and we don't have much peacetime because we like to **** things up. You must always keep any potential enemy destabilized and split. It's a tough job but as long as you are at the top of the heap it is your duty. Because the next guy is just going to do the same to you.
It is the spartan ideal.
If we were a democracy we'd be dead in the water because democracy is one step right of anarchy.
