I have been playing for almost 5 months now and it has been one hell of a grind to become competitive. My one question is why didn't sp get reset at release? If a game is released and advertised as new why did new players run into a proto wall of vet players with 15m sp? I didn't give up. I continue to get better everyday but I will never be able to close the gap. I haven't noticed it in pub matches as I can clean up. PC on the other hand is full of maxed out characters with infinite wallets. Any thoughts? Was it some sick marketing ploy to make new players think they could actually close the gap using real money? Any thoughts? How do newer players exist in new Eden ? |

If the game was released in the same state as open beta those new players would not of hit a wall of proto.
See back in beta you could training twice as fast. Then without a word they doubled-tripled the sp pool without increasing the number of skills or the output of sp |

Easy enough with advice, I've brought in a few new players and have them rockin in no time, pending on their gun game I suggest different roles and or weapons.
5 months is enough to make you deadly, more time just allows you to be flexible.
Offense skills first (weapon, mods, ect), defense ones later is the standard route to go due to the lower TTK

There's always going to be someone with more SP than you. Resetting the SP won't really change that fact in the long run. |

Played ya today. You might have the SP to be competitive, but definitely not the Gun game |

Thanks for the confidence boost Reg. Don't use a lagged out PC match to base opinions of a player's gun game. Either way it's not the point of this thread. On a side note I find it funny none of you know when full release was or when you had your scores reset. |

Guys, he is talking about a reset, not respec... as in all SP set to zero.
The reason that it did not happen is that they had done it already so many times to the vets during closed Beta. Doing it one more time would have killed much of their player base that had seen nothing but grind after grind. They stated during open beta that there would be no more resets. |

Beta testers got to keep their SP as a reward for testing the game. The thing you have to realize is that the skill tree is wide and shallow. After a certain number of SP it isn't possible to get any better at a specific role. At that point more SP only lets you diversify into other suits or vehicles. |

I recently read a post where a player mentioned being maxed out in their perspective role after reaching almost 30 mil sp. if that is true I have a ways to go lol. |

There was a complete "reset" at the end of closed beta. All SP was set to zero and all AUR refunded. At this point the game entered open beta. Any PS3 owner with an internet connection could have downloaded DUST 514 and began their merc career. |

The only role I could see taking 30 mil to fully max would be a Logi, because of all the Equipment. |

CCP didnt want to **** off the people who were grinding away at this game instead of beta testing. If CCP was smart about beta tests and actually gave people SP instead of making then play several months just to spec into something, then no one would have any qualms about a reset. The best we could hope for right now is balance between new players and vets but the bitter vets want to hold onto their proto advantage as long as they can, even if it means driving off new players which will be the end of this game. |

Well the end of dust is just over the horizon. No new players equals no more dust. I honestly think they left the sp to push new players to aurum purchases. This may have earned some money but more players would mean more possibilities for revenue. I think I speak for the majority here when I say the CCP business model is flawed! |

Even if their business model is flawed, their sense of humour isn't. I laughed when I realised that no one playing DUST would mean it gathers dust. So no new players would not mean the end of dust, but the beginning of it.

Why do people bring up "closing the gap" anyway? After roughly 10mill sp or so (random guess don't hold me to it) everyone is equal; after that point you can spec into another role. Not really THAT big of a difference is it?
So, yeah, I don't think a reset was really needed. Besides, someone will always have more SP than you whether they did a reset or not; really isn't a huge deal. |
