How long did it take before people stopped buying PS2s? Also, Hilmar did not say no PS4, he said he is not compelled to do anything right now.
thats because the ps3 was ridiculously overpriced and very few stores offered a viable trade in deal as it was in early stages. now days there are more options to get new consoles easier. And yes they're not doing anything atm for ps4 but it doesn't need to be overhauled for the ps4 just have a client built for psn store on ps4 so the game can be run, then they can work on graphics and what not in a full ps4 build. just as eve has clients for mac, pc and linux. it doesn't matter the specs of the machine, each has a client built so the system can access tranquility and thats all that would need to be done in order to keep the higher playerbase for those people who do trade in.

They continue to bang their head against a wall for a tiny playerbase- thats their choice. Their ineptitude has totally soured me and if the new games deliver I surely wont stick around.
At first I thought they were developing a client in parallel (they still maybe) but would milk the PS3 for years. Hints from Sony itself and all the trade-up programs and the $400 price point have the PS4 primed for an insane adoption rate.
All of these new deferred plans and content delays will further sideline them in a month or so. |

Sorry just say that and wondered if CCP ever checked the forums..... Dropsuits Vehicles Weapons Equipment PVE #Dustiskindastale..... I'm not sure what you're suggesting here. You think they are not aware what's happening on their servers and infrastructure? You think they're not having an up to date balance sheet on this project, going beyond financial aspects? You honestly believe, that they'd be pushing this if it was only blood, tears and expenses, like all the forum FUDers want us to believe? Especially now, when they said Sony is no going to kill them over Dust failure or porting away? I'll be the first guy to say that the content is lacking here. But I also know that you can only go as fast as you can go, not faster. There are no simple solutions to get stuff done in IT if you want it to be done right. Dropping resources at something will actually make it take longer. My favorite quote here is "nine women will not deliver a baby in a month". We're getting there, but slow. You can play other games besides Dust, you know? It's not your job, you're not contracted to login every day. Just chill elsewhere and let them work. That's what I do. Taking August off (as in offline) did me good.
I still enjoy the game, I still play it, I have a duty to ensure the Amarr are on top in FW.
However just want to point out the much of the community is not happy, were getting there, but there is still a long way to go before they can say that the people LOVE playing this game. |

The PS2 like just stopped being manufactured.... lol...
Do you remember when the PS3 came out? the PS2 still had some of the best titles coming out for it..
PS3 isn't going anywhere soon, this is console history since the 1980's... I'm confused where everyone has been.
Next gen console's are pretty much built with computer hardware and like a PC. The development even designed for the next generation console's are completely built for open ended development as stated by both major parties.
It would be simple to port any game hypothetically over to the PS4 under those circumstances, as the PS3 has been one of the hardest system's to develop for in console history.
CCP is renowned for multi-platforming their games, and probably one of the industry's most successful at doing so. That will be their challenge more then simple porting, and throwing an entire platform population away. Running the PS3 and PS4 simultaneously in a year will be more of a challenge then what people are arguing about and probably what they are going to attempt.
The focus right now is to build DUST into a solid game so rapid fire content releases can be smooth with little problems. Then we can worry about taking a solid game and moving it into the next generation market.
DUST went backward's at the start and the CEO has came down hard... Content and addition's to the game with core mechanic's not solid has ended poorly. It is now rebuild time, right from the guy that watches CCP's money investment and the vision of the product. the Executive Producer.
Anyone coming into this project from the "E.P." title will literally have to write down every piece of this game as it is right now, and try to make sense of the scale and balance of it all in the game. And as it can be extremely opinion based we could see the concept's we have known in DUST completely torn down and rebuilt into some big picture.
PS4 games have offered us nothing as gamers but texture packs... and no true gamer trades "pretty" for gameplay and depth and enjoy's it for long. The #1 reason Uprising caused such a mass exodus of players... Graphic's where chosen over gameplay. |

You have played them all already??? - Cancel the next gen then. Stop making GPU's and CPU's
I thought BF4 will have more players (on console) than before. Deep Down will have ever changing dungeons. Destiny, the Division and even the Crew will offer a similar setup to Dust but with much more immersive and expansive (actual not dots in a madeup galaxy reused on a few maps) digital worlds.
If you are a "true gamer" why spend time on a game where all you need to do is skill up one weapon in a suit with many slots to be vastly superior?
Dust isnt some jewel, its average, so if people want to leave for better looking average or far superior (actual game not hyped promise) that also look amazing why would you try to shame them with your weak argument. |

Probably, they're small, but "it has revenue and people are playing", and the game is improving each month depending on their needs. There are even stories worth talking about.
Hilmar P+¬tursson There's a husband and wife team who pursued different gaming avenues before Dust. He would play Eve and she would play console games. Dust bridged the divide. "She started to play Dust, loved it, built her own alliance in Dust," said P+¬tursson. "Now she has boots on the ground and he has an army in the sky. She's calling the shots and he's delivering them.
"It's those kind of things that we care more about rather than the exact number of people who are playing it, because we know that if we have that passion and we do the updates then the journey is going to take us to whatever numbers will come, just like it did with Eve.
"There were only 30,000 people playing Eve in the beginning, now there's over half-a-million people playing it a decade later. We know how that works. If we stick to our guns, deliver on rapid-fire updates, the game accelerates and progresses so nicely that...
"It's just good to see that we're in that mode. It's a much better mode than before when were just internally developing the game and it wasn't connected to Eve."
Let's do some more math shall we?
Player #'s = Money.

Welcome to gaming for last few years, the same. almost every major developing studio lost money this year bar a select few. Any game in theroy could be or is better then Dust, I never made that argument? Most players don't play the current "better looking" FPS's because the older uglier ones are better. Even Nintendo 1 games can captivate you for weeks.
I never got skill point's to kill the new player i just leveled out of... I got skill point's to have epic gun battles against other skilled player's.. Also knowing there was a MMO scale to a FPS pvp experience and enjoying the progression and challenge.
If your idea of cutting edge GPU's and CPU's is what is going to be in the next gen console's? I come from PC land first.. And that is hilarious...
Any game really could be amazing... CCP has committed to developing this game for the long haul and that's not even something bungee can claim or have a history for. |

PS4 pre orders are sold out, you will now struggle to get one before christmas. Some of these people will sell their PS3's to help pay for it. The "not many people will get one at launch" argument just doesn't seem to ring true. 80% of the people on my PSN friends list are getting one. The launch titles are looking strong (much stronger than they did for PS3) the only black mark i can give it so far is the announcement made about compatible headsets. Roll on November......... |

Well call us when they get at least a quarter way there will you
The hyped promise is now more snake oil salesman, theatrical preacher.
Just because a game promises something 10 years in the future doesnt mean what you will ever get will be that good. You are telling people to stick with substandard as if there is some guarantee this will pan out.
You could be placating yourself instead of just playing something better.
If people want to leave let them.
CCP need to shut up and deliver. Dont talk about sticking to guns, shoot some off!!
Until they deliver a complete base experience I really cant give them any credit . |

You're not using logic.
Let's assume every single PS4 pre-order that sells is going to hardcore shooter-fan that will absolutely never play anything unless it's PS4/Xbone ever again, because.... mental issues or something. That could be like 1.5 million consoles! Wow, think of all the DUST PLAYERS?!
What's their potential audience on the PS3? Well, there were 70 million sold a year ago.
So, if you compare the two, the pre-order estimate of the PS4 (as of three days ago) is 2% of the current sold number of PS3s. Even if EVERY single pre-order is a current PS3 owner that literally tosses their PS3 in the trash, IT'S STILL ONLY 2%!
Here's an analogy for you: Now, let's imagine for a moment that you're selling lemonade (or danishes, peanuts, whatever) to a crowd of 100 people, but you're frustrated because you think more people should be buying them. Someone says, there's going to be this other group of people you could sell stuff to, and it's huge!!! THERE'S ALREADY 2 PEOPLE THERE!! That's basically how stupid it would be for them to try to fracture their tiny pool of devs to chase a miniscule market.
Even if you want to get a PS4 (and I think it looks like a great console), it's silly to assume that:
A) People buying a PS4 will get rid of a PS3 when the PS4 isn't BC. Some people will trade all their stuff, sure. Those tend to be idiots and kids though (from experience in retail).
B) The majority of the buyers would necessarily be fans of or looking to play some sort of MMO shooter. Even super popular games like Madden and CoD only appeal to a certain segment of the public.
C) That the PS4 market will quickly eclipse an already established console market (math already makes that obvious). Wii, 360, PS3... all of those had big launches where they sold out. They still didn't come close to the numbers of the existing consoles for some time. Do you think the PS2 became unpopular when the PS3 launched? Even with the PS3 frickin SOLD OUT, the PS2 still sold like crazy. It's actually a lot easier for them to sell PS3s when the new stuff is all sold out.
D) That everyone will always want the newest console. From retail experience, other consoles wind up getting a little rush around a launch too. Old consoles often get cheaper when new ones are released, and if you're shopping around you can suddenly find a bluray-player that's super cheap with a giant game library vs. an expensive untested console with a handful of "launch titles" - the latter option is a lot more appealing for many people.
If Dust hasn't made any overtures towards jumping to PC/PS4/Whatever in a couples years, then it'll be an issue. |

Thats about my timeline as well.
I understand that moving it directly to PS4 at launch would not be the best for the playerbase as not everyone will buy a PS4 right out of the gate nor would they sell their PS3 right away either. That being said, the PS3 is obviously limiting the ability for this game to evolve beyond its current state. Destiny's Beta comes out in the spring and if this game has not been announced for a PS4 launch by March/April I will just focus on that. By that time I will have about as much unallocated SP as I have in my toon if not more. What exactly is a 40-50 million SP character supposed to be by then?

I hope that I can play it on my PS4 somehow even if it's not optimized for the PS4, I'd be happy with the PS3 version. I don't want to buy another PS3 just to play with my Dust 514 guild.
I know Planetside 2 ships with the PS4 on day one but I don't like the economy nor the scope of Planetside 2, I prefer the ideas behind CCPs game and their scope.
I might have to let my friend borrow my PS4 and I would borrow his PS3 so I can play dust and that makes me a sad panda.
