Hilmar is a good guy with a funny personality, but he has a history with being out-of-touch with the needs and desires of his associated communities. I assumed that the PS4 version was coming soon and they were just trying to be subtle about it, but with this article it's pretty clear he has no plans and is still in his post-incarna shock where he is too scared to make any critical decisions.
That's a shame. If I hear no announcement at fanfest I will be done with the game. |

If it gets me 60 frames per second, it's pretty damn magical. |

Yep... so if the game moved to the PS4 they'd all start playing because... ? That is my point. They won't play on either. Its a catch 22 for CCP. Very few people out of millions play this game now on an outdated PS3 anyway so what is the point in moving it over to the PS4 when even fewer people will play. CCP should just keep this thing on the PS3 and hope to be around for a couple more years and then put this LOL experiment behind them or take this EVE expansion on over to the PC where the EVE fanbois can pew pew each other on space rocks.
Thats actually fairly wrong.
When a console launches, any of the games that are around towards the early portion of its life tend to develop a much bigger fanbase at a faster rate. That is because of all of the early adopters, the choices between which games they can play is fairly limited. And most early adopters will try everything at least once. That gives the game a lot more exposure.
Sure, there may be 70 million PS3's out there, but how many other (and better) games are currently diluting the pool of potential players? A lot. In fact, you have to dig through a jungle of PSN games just to find out that Dust 514 even exists.
Hilmar has screwed over his company here and shot himself in the foot in a most epic fashion. If Dust was on the PS4 at release, even if it did nothing more than brush up the graphics a bit and get the frame rate to 60 FPS, it would have drastically increased the player base. Instead he has decided to play overly cautious, and there is a very good chance it will mean the end of his game as a result. |
