When you look at this question normally you think it's not a important question to ask, but in actuality it's the most important question that needs to be answered for the survival of dust 514 because if it's unanswered it can mean the end of dust 514.The thing is though, how do we answer such a open-ended question that may exist forever; the only real answer to that is we don't stop answering this question and make dust 514 the best game it can be.After a lot of thinking on the problems i feel are forcing me away from dust 514, i came up with answers of my own that answers this question; at least for now.After i post my answers please post your own answers and lets help each other make dust 514 better than it is now, you can use the following format that i'm going to use.
Problems:(listed from most important to least important) 1) [Critical] The problem...(Critical, Major, Minor is the how important you think it is) [Solution]The solution... 2) [Major] The problem... [Solution] The solution...
Problems: 1)[Critical] This game lacks a story that all rpg players want.The reason that players want this is because by immersing yourself in that games story you grow to want to stay in that game. [Solution] The new eden universe has a vast history and lore, by putting these two into the game as story you'll draw more people to the game and give players that are already here another reason to stay.The way i propose you do this is by making group pve features like raids and dungeons that involve multiple players.The raids and dungeons can be split between faction, merc, and player.A faction raid/dungeon will only be available to players with enough standing and you will unlock more as your standing goes up.Merc raids/dungeons are available for all mercs and will be unlocked after gaining a certain amount of lifetime sp.Player raids are setup in null sec by players to dust mercs for extra loot for both sides and will be unlocked when both sides have a certain amount of lifetime sp.If anyone else has any further ideas to add to this please post them.
2)[Major] At the moment there are very few ways to gain isk and this problem forces some players to other games. [Solution]Adding raids and dungeons is one way to solve this problem.
One final thing about raids and dungeons, they will not be called this because of this type of game.Instead we can name them something else like S.W.A.T.(dungeons) Contracts & Militia(raids) Contracts, by the way dungeons are 4-8 man teams and raids are 12-16 man teams.(These numbers can be risen if the devs want to rise them for whatever reasons)
As a player that played many rpgs, i can't see myself playing a game that has no story no matter how good the game may be.As for isk, it's one of the reasons that discourages me from playing this game.I'm sure there are other areas that can be fixed, but i think these are the two most important for me. |

I agree with the general spirit of your post.
I was going to say 'there is plenty of low hanging fruit CCP could impliment' that would give players more to do than just 'join battle' but the reality is, everything I've ever thought of, would require significant developer time.
Crafting - requires a dev to pour over the maths, required production assets and a way to generate production assets thats fair an inclusive. Then you got to ask, what is being produced, and it can't exist without a player market.
Mining - How does this work? Do you let players mine on empty maps? If they can, do you allow other player to come in and shoot them. Does this require Dust players to move about the eve map? Do you let them mine in combat zones - a potentially immersion breaking and rage inducing situation (I want mining or resource gathering beyond watching your isk wallet tick up, but I don 't want it in live combat zones, that makes no sense to me).
Economy - You have to link this with eve online. Players without a keyboard will have to be catered for. Potentially balance destroying as those who are good at markets dominate and make shed tonnes of cash. If you allow dust to have a full market it could potentially hemerage players from Eve as Dust is free and all marketeers do is sit in station anyway. You also have to answer the quetion of movement around the Eve universe.
Dungeons/Raids - This requires NPCs/AI programming, something CCP always seem reluctant to do because PvP is thier design ethos. Requires more graphic and art assets (Id image Dust limited art team are focusing on weapons, vehicles and dropsuits at the moment) and a way to get to the dungeon. Is it from a list or is it more immersive?
PVE - They already have this but they seem to be fiddling over the details.
But then again who knows that the devs have sitting in a semi complete state on thier servers. I have to say they definately have to rethink game modes, they are so painfully generic (with the exception of ambush) they do nothing to distinsh Dust 514 from other games. |

I think the easy, concise answer is : "Actual stuff to do that isn't a simplified TDM with horrible spawning systems, or three recycled and rehashed objective based game modes that are pretty much the same thing with varying degrees of filler."

Put a mechanic that allows simultaneous battles happening at once allowing whoever can field more troops an advantage that can still be overcome by higher quality more skilled and more organized troops on the other side. Possibly changing it from destroying all the clones on a district to taking control by a control mechanic of 0-100% |

Why not just attack all their districts at once? Preferably with 200+ clones so you can immediately force another battle and take any district they don't contest in the space of one night. |

with current mechanics if they only have one district you can only field 16 people killing any immersion in this game. I'd like to see it opened up to be more then a lobby shooter. |

we have a winner! there's nothing to do in Dust besides skirmish..which is one game mode! with all of the lore and stuff to do in new eden we should have like 20 diff contract types. PVE is a must and we need social areas and virtual training areas pronto |

Example, setting a drag bubble on the test server or in a deserted corner of null so that when it counts you know how. [Major 3] No PVE, no actual story, my COD play has actually gotten better because this game is so much like it, scotty has got to go. [MINOR] Still need isk to support my bad habit of getting shot by militia assault riffles and other spitballers in my Sever BPO suit. |

I know I already said this, but the game itself lacks a story.They can fix this by integrating the lore into the game, so we can learn about the new eden universe.The counter-argument to this is you can read the books about the lore, the problem with this is you have to go away from the game to get what you(I) want.At this point it won't be immersive when compared to how the lore can impact the game vs book form, and it's not fun for rpg fan's like me.Adding this can have benefits for eve/dust 514, with the lore in the game you'll be able to bring in more players that never considered games like this and you would give players that are already here more reason to stay.
There are several ways you can do this: 1) The marks that were left behind : In the course of history, we have been effected by our past and in the same way you can add the marks of new edens past into the new eden universe. 2)group pve that is intertwined with the lore : There are abandoned space stations, places where characters visited, areas not explored that can be used to make a dungeon that helps immerse yourself in the same while sticking close to the ways of new eden. 3)Items we can find to read : The diaries that were left behind, secret documents, and some sort of written text somewhere that stick to the lore. 4)Ways to replay the past with immersion : Space Distortions that replays the past while you fight through an area, the words that were said, the scene that was missed, and more. 5)The mysterious Jovians : The jovians past that are shrouded in mystery, who they are, how they look like, and more.(not really a way but a major interest) 6)The mystery of our officer weapons past : The history behind our officer guns and there lost owner, there past and what happened to separate them.The officer weapons themself can become major clues in a sort of mystery hunt to uncover the truth, which will give us reason to visit x place. 7)Factional missions : Factional missions that we can take after a solar system has been taken/retaken, which would relate to the faction in question.We can have an ammar purification hunt, a minmitar freedom rebel, a caldari corporate trade guard, a gallente diplomat escort mission; with many more depending on the faction.
These ways that I listed proves that it can be done without breaking the game we love and without the game having to sacrifice it's core standards.ccp please add this, after all it's a win-win for the players and you(ccp); with more players you have more money and a bigger playerbase.Also it would be nice if the cpm can forward this to ccp for me if they haven't already read this, and ty in advance if you did. |

Alot can be done the only question is how long will we have to wait to get it.
Theres been talk of mining, PVE, a player market. Heck, even player trading hasnt even been implemented yet.
There was even a whole dev blog dedicated to Thunderdome, a group of players who go together to do one on one matches. Is it really that hard for CCP dev's to add a 1on1 game mode into Dust?
Problem: Continuous endless TDM's get boring very quickly.
Solution: Give us something to do when we get bored of that. PVE Missions as stated, Mining. We even have trailer footage of a merc shooting at drones (PVE) but nothing came of it.

Garth , you trolle. Yes, it has . It is good enough so as not to be annoying after years of playing . You normally turn it off in massive PVP engagements anyway and just leave weapon sounds. |

Real snipers in real life can't hide behind a safe zone, so why should snipers be allowed to do so.The red line is op and it's the cause of all our problems.
Fixes: - extend the red line with the mcc far back ( long term fix that requires big maps ) - remove the red line ( an extreme fix but had to mention it ) - make the red line a damage reducing barrier that reduces damage by a % ( best fix) also the further away the bigger the reduction to damage
ccp please consider these fixes and I recommend the third. ( Reposted here because I felt this would make game more fun) |

Fitting screen tabs This idea is to expand the fitting menu without reworking the whole fitting screen by adding tabs for customizing your weapons and your dropsuit.By adding this feature your able to further expand on your customization of your fitting and expand on what your fitting can do.you'll be able to add some stuff that is only possible this way which may solve some problems we may have now and problems we may have in the future.
