There is two reasons I am playing less, I hardly get more than half of the bonus sp each week now.
1. I am playing much less than I used to due to work, family and other free time activities.
2. The matchmaking, the problem I have is getting placed on the US server even when I have selected Europe server in the systems settings. this rarely happened before but now it is happening often. I am tired of the lagging, my heavy do fine on the Europe server and I am getting slaughtered by militia fits on the US server due to lagging. |

Because console players are fickle, they are accustomed to PvE games or games that have a short shelf life until the next version is released so they can start from scratch again. PC players have more patience and understand the development cycle of MMO's and how a game evolves over time. Console Gamers = Want everything now so they can move onto the next thing. MMO PC Gamers = Want iterative releases to keep them loyal.
FPS games have roll over exp. Exp you get from any FPS is carried over to the next fps. Dust glaring problems wouldn't be solved with it moving to PC. I have a rig that I play as much as my console. But the make up of my gaming diet is 85% FPS.
Should Dust 514 have been on a rig, rather than a console I doubt the numbers would be that much difference. Maybe a tad higher if your adding the CCP groupies. Dust as a lobby FPS is just not that good.
It started from a lack of respect and understanding for the genre they were making. or trying to combine. And went downhill from there.
Why do players play FPS games? Should have been a question they should have focused on.

LogicLoop and Team did a great job with the new maps and sockets. Also, the Squad Sight changes have added a 'bit more depth to combat.
I'd say balance and core mechanics are of greater concern than new gadgets and guns.

Dust a good game that sorely lacks content that maintains attention and a desire to replay. It gets old fast. And it doesn;t really feel like your free to experience the lore and content of the eve universe. But I suppose we have eve for that.
I just try to be abit zen about it all and hope eventually, one day that CCP delivers on its earlier promises.
Round out the races would be a good start, in terms of material. And the terrain system needs work, still doesn't really feel like multiple planets across the universe, but rather different locations on the same planet.

When you can earn SP offline you essentially remove the need to grind, ofcourse there are those who play everyday so they can get into proto asap but Dust, just like other FPS' is just another mindless grind.
FW may give some battles meaning but CCP really need to connect EVE and Dust as soon as possible. I mean there's no market interaction, PC is limited to one region, no ISK transfer, no PVE content at all.
Dust is still in Beta. |

The fact of the matter is simple. People here know it, CCP knows it, but it gets poo-pooed all the time. DUST is perfectly good for what it is. DUST is woefully inadequate for what it was promised to be.
As a futuristic shooter it is honestly pretty good. I think DUST514 is miles beyond the likes of HALO multiplayer. Map diversity has gotten much better, balance between weapons and roles is much better than it used to be (Scouts as more viable for example). Balance is ongoing always getting better. Graphics are much better than they used to be.
And the Skill Tree and Dropsuit Fitting mechanics are some of the best I've seen in any game, regardless of genre. The amount of control you have to tweak your own playstyle in hundreds of different ways is straight impressive (even if some builds are gimped, that's a balance issue not a fitting system issue. The system itself rocks.)
But all this just funnels into one game: a lobby shooter. It's an awesome lobby shooter, but that's not why I picked this game up in the first place. I wanted an MMO. I was promised something that would be massive, that would tie into EVE. Something where my actions affect EVE pilots, and where EVE pilots affect me. I really wanted a game where I could log in one day to find out that the face of the war had changed due to a push from EVE in the middle of the night. That would have been SO COOL. But as it is now, nothing EVE does at all affects me in even the tiniest most insignificant ways. Goonswarm could take over the entire galaxy tomorrow, and DUST players wouldn't even notice. WOULDN'T. EVEN. NOTICE.
The most people you ever see at once is 32 people. 16 v 16. That's not massive, realm vs realm or kingdom vs kingdom type combat. Planetside 1 had hundred player battles, and that was release 10 years ago. World of Warcraft, Dark Age of Camelot... Hell, EVE ONLINE! The game this one is modeled after does "MMO" correctly, so we know CCP can do it.
Unless I am in a battle, my avatar can't physically interact with my own corp except on chat rooms. Unless I am in a battle, my avatar can't interact with my own district. And battles are the only way to accomplish anything. I can't infiltrate enemy corp districts to lay subterfuge in off hours. I can't steal important resources. I can't destroy supply lines. I can't smuggle. I can't mine. I can't put my own money on the line to call in hits or favors. I can't even sell my own inventory back to the in game storefront (which is the only thing on this list we might eventually get someday).
To those who say DUST will get there someday, there is a saying in poker: "play the flop". After the flop, you have 5 of the possible 7 cards you are ever going to get. Sure, you might get a flush. But right not you have nothing. And 9 out of 10 times, that hand is going to stay nothing. Skyrim flopped a full house. People still talk about it passionately years after release. GTA V is another full house.
Dust flopped a pair of 10s. Like it or not, DUST is out in full release, and this is what it looks like. The chances that it changes to be twice as good, or 3x, or 10x, are extremely slim. And it certainly won't be soon. The things we WANT from DUST, and the things CCP PROMISED for DUST, are so different than the current iteration that we are almost talking about developing a new game. So 3 to 5 years. But with dwindling interest and lack of confidence, chances are, when the DUST servers are turned off, the game will look a lot like it does now.
So play DUST for what it is, a quick and fun shooter. But the people who see the writing on the wall, and see that the game is unlikely to ever be what CCP promised (even as recently as EVE-fest this year), they are leaving. |

As a kb/m user I've stopped playing (as much) due to CCP completely destroying my input of choice but i keep holding on to hope.. The new games on the horizon is making it harder and harder to continue playing..
The few kb/m users I've talked to including myself would come back of they fixed it, this may be a selfish reason but when i came to Dust just for that reason and CCP trashes it, that's what happens..
Not holding my breath as it seems a lot of people have left because CCP continues to break one thing or another with no community involvement/communication... |

I liked this game a lot when i started. Bought a merc pack, capped out every week. Starry eyed newberry, ready to change the face of a war! Charge! Yeah no, it's a boring lobby shooter with a vicious grind. Over that last 5-6 weeks I've stopped caring about SP or trying to cap. I'll log in if one of my friends is playing but usually only play an hour or so as opposed to hours each night. Just waiting for my ps4 in Nov.

The way I read the charts...
* PCU peaked at around 6K shortly after "launch" in May. * It then declined quite steadily to about 3.5K at the start of July. * It was then stable until the middle of August. * It has been declining by a couple of hundred per week since then.
I also think that the last data point on the 6 month chart is a little suspect (bug here Chribba?). It doesn't tend to match the previous day when compared against the same 2 days on the 1 month chart.

I mean **** me finding a squad is the easiest thing in the world, doing things in corp are ******* easy too. Why the hell can't CCP realise there are something we can make do with and some we cant make do without. A ******* squad finder, some damn corp roles are the last things players want or need.
This ^^^^ Add to that PC matches lagging like hell, with such low frame rates - its unplayable.
To be honest people will always leave a game, there are many reasons. I think the main problem for people who want Dust to succeed is that CCP just isn't doing itself any favours.
We dont expect miracles, but apart from shiny new objects like weapons and levels, I honestly feel like since chromosome ended and we started uprising the game really hasn't met expectations.
So many people rage and ***** on the forums because we hate the thought of our beloved game going down the stinker! You have to be real about it though, I for one cant just bury my head in the sand and say "Here CCP take more money". I've probably put in about -ú50-60 over the last half a year or so.
Granted its not as much as some, however its more than others. So yea I am a little disappointed.

A lot of the people leaving have been playing the game for 8-12+ months. That isn't actually a bad run for a game to hold on to a player TBQH.
The game was released without marketing as CCP continues to fix 'core' things before they feel comfortable doing a marketing blitz.
Also, GTAV + GTAV online + FFXIV has taken a lot of players. But some are already returning / or will return due to being bored driving cars around all day or shooting bank tellers or w/e TF you do in that game. Also BF4 beta.
Similar happened when TLoU was released but Dust bounced back. I think this is going to be a longer dip, but it will eventually pick up. |
