The active scanner has now become an essential piece of equipment for any organized squad. What does the community think would be suitable as far as its WP reward? I personally, like two methods.
A) Have it count as an Assist when a painted Target is killed/captured. Possibly with lesser gains than an actual assist.
OR
B) A straight up 5 - 10 WP bonus for each Target that is scanned. This would have a WP cap similar to the repair tool.
What do you guys think? Have any ideas of your own? |

I think it should be the same as squad leader WPs when in the halo. +2 when a squadmate downs a painted enemy. More than that would be too much. |

It's a tricky thing since it could be used to farm very safely, definitely needs to be when the targets die.

Okay, I can agree that my points scaling is out of whack. Lol
I guess what I meant is, should it be rewarded by what it accomplishes or by simply doing it? For example, repair tools give WP simply for using it on someone AND gives a guardian bonus when someone kills while being repaired. Should the AS be similar? |

I you scanned someone else within the 30 seconds you get wp for scanning them.

10wp to any enemy killed whilst under the effects of your scan. Simples.

This makes the most sense to me. If there are concerns that it might be abused to "farm" War Points, put a cap on it similar to the Repair Tool. |

Or, contrariwise... 0 points.
If it's as essential to combat as people seem to say it is now... then there's no reason to give an incentive for people to do it.
The benefits will come from
1. staying alive longer
2. being able to go get kills that didnt see you coming.
PS: #2 would be easier to do,if my recent "make maps large all the time" request gets accepted.

I disagree. If someone decides to use an equipment slot to assist their squad in finding the enemy they should get the same bonus as the squad leader. Give them 20% of the WP earned if the target is painted. A good scout should be able to avoid enemy contact put paint them and get credit.

If weapon-sight based scans werent so ludicrously OP, it would make the most sense to say that any enemy painted by your active scanner, that would otherwise be not lit up, would get you credit.
Trouble is, any weapon that is in-range and on target, automatically lights up a target. Hmm. Well maybe simply just toss out weapon-based scans to the calculation.
Although even then, the active scan could have helped out a guy turn around in time to stop him from getting killed.
Maybe some kind of module-specific timer:
They already have a very similar timer for kill assists, so in theory, the following could be an easy code change. Lighting up a previously undetected enemy, gets you put on the standard "kill assist" queue for that enemy, but at a lower reward level.
Similar to what folks have suggested previously, but the highlighted clause is crucial to ensure that they actually deserve the assist points.
Edit: If coded in the above way, I think it could make sense to even give assist points to yourself, if you both scan and kill. |

WP for every scan is way too much. Counting the scan as an assist is too much. This is coming from a logi who will be using it constantly. Let's go with...

Just scanning can't be enough. It needs to assist in a kill or it'll be too easy to farm. The system is already tracking how long each dot is lit so using that as the time the target needs to die in should work. |

Simple, tagged targets should show up to everyone in squad. If you kill them you get 50 points for the kill plus 25 points for the scan assist.
If someone in your squad killed them you get 25 points and they get the normal 50 points
So if you go solo it's a way to boost the war points gained by 50% for a personal kill.
Or it could just be 10 points as most people are pointing out. |

If we went with option A and a player marked a target and did a few points of damage, then what? Only +25 for the assist? I personally like the if the scanned target gets down, you get a +1 to +5. And have ti cap out after a short time like chain injector and repair tool does. |

I think +5-10 for a teammate killing a scanned opponent seems reasonable, but I think scans can also show larger troop movements on the field, and therefore give the team a step up on competition. Therefore, I think there should be some bonus for just scanning an enemy (but in this case, I think there should be some added difficulty to performing a scan, like you can't move when scanning, or moving while scanning greatly reduces the efficacy of the scan). |

Sighting and revealing enemy players is what the active scanner (handheld and vehicle mounted) do. Inherently this give value to both the scanning player and thier squad.
Most of us, including CCP I believe, agree that the value gained by just revealing intel is not enough to justify the equipment slot
But there isn't a current mechanic that I am aware of that assgns a value to a spotting/scanning player.
CCP has to be cautious that whatever they introduce doesn't slow down game performance because if they make scanning too valuable then there will be A LOT of it going on.
They also must contend with the potential for abuse and cheating.
Personally, I like the modified assist score idea. If there were a fair way to do that well it could also be applied to blues leaping from your dropship- pilot could get minor assists for kills, hacks, etc executed a short time after dismount.
So, depending on how process intensive it would be, you could assign a 'revealed' flag to red berries actively scanned that lasts for a time equal to the scanners effectiveness (5-16 sec I think). Kills vs flagged enemies earn the scanning p,Ayer a minor assist score (less than 25 - full assist). Maybe2 or 3 WP
Depending on how many WP could be earned via scanning they may have t o limit point gain the way they do with Triage |

I would also suggest that once an enemy player is scanned ( and give the 'revealed' flag ) he cannot be given an additional revealed flag until after the first expires.
Too much room for abuse.
Say the revealed flag kill nets the scanner 5wp.
I am a scanning, repping logi holed up in a bunker next to my defend flagged squad leader.
100 meters outside the bunker I scan 5 enemies giving them each a revealed flag for 16 sec. I switch to my rep tool, target my squad leader who calls in an orbital. How many points did my squad just earn?
That's why, once flagged, another player cannot scan and get points for those same reds until my scanned flag wears off |

I love the 261k sp i spent on an advanced scanner and every squad im in loves me for it. Way better than a situational rep tool as a logi. Its seriously good even without getting wp for it. Whatever sp it gives should be token at best. +2 per scanned guy killed? Still an amazing piece of kit. |

Thing is though, revealing an enemy, even if just momentary, then gives your squadmember a headsup so that he knows the guy is there, even after the scan wears off. Note this:
5 second scan starts. Squad member notices a blip after 1 second Mentally registers significance and relative position after another second Starts getting into a "firing solution" position. 2+ seconds Starts firing... oh wait 5 seconds are up. Even if they got a headshot, the actual kill credit would most likely register, after the scan effect wore off.
Practically no -one would ever get assist credit from the 5second scanners if we had a "while lit" rule. Yet it undoubtably was responsible for the kill.
That's why my suggestion was to add to the invisible, and already existing "kill assist" list/timer, rather than a "while lit" rule.
