I think there should be a "Scan Assist" when a teammate kills an enemy who is currently being lit up by your scanner. |

Therefore, I think there should be some bonus for just scanning an enemy (but in this case, I think there should be some added difficulty to performing a scan, like you can't move when scanning, or moving while scanning greatly reduces the efficacy of the scan). When I wrote my post, my initial impulse was to say 15 points, but I've been thinking about it for a while, and I think 10 would probably be enough. You can light up a LOT of targets at once, so it would be pretty powerful if they gave much more than 10 points and didn't also add a cap like you have on healing (which I also dislike immensely). |

+5 per target scanned. no point for repeat scans on the same target within 30 seconds. +5 per target killed while being scanned.
+1 per target scanned. +5 per target killed while being scanned.
Or just +10 per target killed whlle being scanned.
The latter option seems a lot more practical in the sense of being easily implemented and understood in a dynamic environment. The other options are probably better in terms of reward, but it would be more difficult to actually code into the game, and more difficult to keep track of while you're playing.
The "more difficult to keep track of" part isn't really a problem, imo, but CCP seem set on catering to some degree to the typical console FPS crowd, and some of them have issues in that regard. |

With those proposed 1 SP per scan options, we'd only need to scan 2500 people before getting an orbital. It's not like team sizes are only 16 a side or anything silly like that.

Shion Typhon wrote:Planetside 2 uses method A for Infiltrator Recon darts (same basic idea as scanners) and it works really well. You get +10 xp per target killed under your dart which is like 3% of the XP of a kill. Not OP but can rack up if you do dedicated darting on the frontlines. For comparison's sake, how many enemies are likely to be in the area of effect for the dart? And how many points is a kill worth normally? And how long does a dart's effect last?
I would play PS2 myself, but my PC isn't up to handling that. |
