Bottom line is no matter what they call it, Bonus or whatever, it's SP. If you fail to get this SP, it is "lost" a daily log-in bonus is a ******** way to budget out our weekly allotment of SP. I think all SP should be gained through active participation in battles. No more passive for sitting in a battle not doing anything. No "bonuses" Stuff like this is frustrating and it DOES put pressure on casual players. I had posted before in feedback forum about having weekly "goals" which would give gear bonuses or SP. CCP could try something engaging like that instead of this lazy-mode ****. |

The thing is, you aren't "losing" something you've been given.
You're doing something else that loses you that SP.
You're making a meaningful decision that has lasting consequences, even when that decision is to NOT PLAY THE GAME. It's your decision that makes you miss out on that opportunity for SP. It isn't CCP saying "nope, you didn't do what we asked, so we're taking away the SP we gave you. It isn't SP they already gave you that's going away. It's only the potential you had to earn extra SP that's being "lost".
It would be possible for me to start a whole bunch of alts, scam a ton of players, and get ridiculous amounts of ISK. It would be equally possible for me to start up a legitimate in-game business that would make me a significant amount more ISK than I currently earn. If I don't choose to do those things, I'm not "losing" ISK. I'm passing up opportunities to earn ISK in order to spend my time doing other things that are more enjoyable to me.
I could simply spend more time playing DUST, and less time playing the various other games I enjoy, and make more SP and ISK, but I choose to vary my gaming and enjoy myself more, and to occasionally go out and have fun doing things that aren't videogames.
Giving players a reward for being regularly active in the game is not making you "lose" something. It's allowing you to gain something if you want it enough. If you have reasons not to play, or you have commitments that prevent you from coming home and signing in, that just means those things are higher priorities than your SP. In most cases, this probably shows that you're a well-balanced and mature person who can keep their gaming life in perspective (unlike me at at times) |

Of course i had to quote that ;).... And it is entirely true. No matter how you put positive spin on the language. 'Bonus' whatever. (Everything is relative, e=mc and stuff.)
So you lose sp for doing all those other positive things, i.e. life.
So, actually, tjaking it further: ccp punish you in sp terms for getting on with life. Im all for reward for PLAYING. Reward for constant logging on, or even daily play is ridiculous and, dare i say it, irresponsible. |

In most cases, this probably shows that you're a well-balanced and mature person who can keep their gaming life in perspective (unlike me at at times) Because the part you quoted WASN'T entirely correct and I clarified why later in my post. I said what I did there to run with the phrasing I was replying to, not because it's an accurate representation.
If a wealthy guy says he'll donate money to charity, that doesn't magically entitle every charity in the world to money from that person. If I say I'm going to give some candy to my friends when they visit, that doesn't magically mean that a friend who doesn't visit can expect me to take candy to their place when I visit them. And when CCP tell us they're giving us an additional SP reward for signing into the game daily, that doesn't mean you should get the reward without having to sign in.
Missing out on an opportunity doesn't cost you anything. Failure to earn stuff doesn't mean you lost it, because you never had it to lose. You lost the OPPORTUNITY TO EARN SP, and you lost it because of YOUR actions, not because of anything the devs did. |

Chill out buddy. But Gain and loss is relative and subjective. If ccp NOW, give us all 2 rewards, passive and active, the only diff is how much you play. now they give an additional reward for frequency. If you cannot honour this you will not get the maximum reward. Therefore a loss by comparison. Example, a bunch of monkeys is given food for sucking ****, you deny it to everyone else, they loose out, because they dont want to fall in line. Simple, you withold people loose out. I guess your going to tell me the people choose not to suck, well thats true, and the game dies. |

Or Friday+saturday+sunday? If you had logged in six or more days consecutively prior to that weekend, so would've picked up 6,000 SP on Friday, I think you would lose: 6,000 SP Fri 6,000 SP Sat 6,000 SP Sun 3,000 SP Mon if you log in 2,500 SP Tue if you log in 2,000 SP Wed if you log in 1,500 SP Thurs if you log in 1,000 SP Friday if you log in 500 SP Saturday if you log in Grand total: 28,500 SP lost from missing three days. This is on the assumption that you immediately get reset to the base 3,000 SP if you miss a day. If the reset is more gradual (e.g. you miss a day, you get pushed down to 5,500 SP) then you would lose a bit less SP on Monday onwards. Can't say I'm too happy with the daily active bonus. It's a real kick in the teeth if you have to be away from home for any reason, like normal people have to be. I suppose they thought they had to give bitter vets a reason to log in after 1.4 makes AFKing harder. Wait... You guys care about just 28k SP??? If so, don't be. It should take less than 7 matches to get that much. |

And it's not like the 'bonus' is a one time thing. Suppose that, every other weekend, you can't log in - hardly an unusual situation. In six months you'll have 370,000 less SP than someone who logs in every day. That's equivalent to 370 post-cap matches.

From what it looks like to me the way that it is worded they are really trying to get people to log in every day. As soon as 1 day is missed the bonus resets. I am not really a fan of the new bonus system based on the patch notes. But we will see how it works out i guess. Course i am also a casual player.

Thats the idea.
No need to have a problem with this, its a small amount of SP anyway. If you want that SP then find a way to log on. Otherwise its only a quick skirmish worth of sp at best. |

I'm assuming (and hoping) that this log in bonus is just temporary and that it will eventually become more of a daily challenge type thing. Like one day the challenge is "get 15 assists" and then the next day it's "get 2 double kills in a single match" and so on. They could then also add weekly and monthly challenges that would take longer but be worth more SP/items. |

This discussion of 'how big it is' is frusrating. We all know how big it is in numerical terms, what it means is different to us all. Moreover CCP decided it is big enough to acheive whatever it is they are trying to acheive. 'The jury is still out'
We are all happy to be rewarded as per the old system 1) for playing (Active) and 2) coming back (Passive) But not all are happy with this login business.
Personally, I think the login reward is pathetic and insulting. But many seem to disagree.
There is now a dev blog on the subject if you want to see/contribute - https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=107229&find=unread |

YAWN the loose conundrum
1) does that mean you cant lose a game? e.g. a football match? 2) different whether you like it or not - you get rewarded for your custom, not for logging into their website 4) is that an idea? seems reasonable
If the general populace is happy jumping through hoops, e.g. loosing civil liberties, does that mean no-one else looses? no of course not - people with character LOOSE due to a system which rewards a lower state of being - supported by short-sighted and unimaginitive masses. Some things are wrong by their very nature. rewarding me for turning my playstation on and off is a perfect example of this madness. |
