This bodes very well for my confidence in CCP Wolfman and Remnant for hteir upcoming vehicle overhaul! I think I love wolfman. There are scrambler pistols... and now this? The man deserves an epic theme song or jingle custom made that plays every time he does something right for dust 514. |

Actually I like the armor burn, though I honestly do think vehicles should have 3 hp bars (shield, armor, systems), for those of you saying that this is no where else in the game may I refer you to "bleed out" for the regular dropsuits where you will die unless someone hits you with the nanite injector. If they take out the armor burn and don't have anything to replace it like systems burn the game will just be loosing another intresting element to it. It's like all the good parts of the game they keep removing such as keeping people in academy for least a full day or two. Also I have a post asking for the 1.4 notes...or least what the devs have said in different forums/topics under one offical thing. |

I was flying my Python today and took quite a bit of damage from what I believe were proto swarms and some forge gun, leaving me with arout 150-200 of my 1000 armour left. So as I'm booking it out of there the fire alarm starts going off and I steadily begin to lose health, and being unable to either find a supply depot or recall my vehicle, I'm stuck behind my red line watching my 600k brick fall helplessly from the sky.
This is ridiculous for two reasons: It favors armour vehicles over shield and negates our last defense points.
Armour vehicles rarely have this problem, granted that they can repair their armour, but what can a shield vehicle do about it? The only options are to either carry a repair tool or find a supply depot, but really what kind of an answer is that? Am I supposed escape the AV players whilst on my last leg, land safely without blowing up my ship, all within the 3-5 seconds left of my ship's life? Ludicrous.
And why bother having the last 200hp of my armour if it doesn't even matter? Let our defenses be our defenses, not our detriment, that's what they're there for. Could you imagine if dropsuits used the same mechanic? I can't tell you how many close calls I've had that have left me with 1hp, imagine if I suddenly began to "lose air" or "my life support was damaged." Even in EvE the ships don't suffer damage from low structure health.
TL;DR/Less ranting: Remove the damaging "fire" mechanic for near-dead vehicles. It's unfair to shield vehicles and negates our hp. I, too have been shot down to 200 HP, but then i landed, started repping it, and it blew up right in my face! WHY LET US REP THEM IF THEY ARE JUST GOING TO BLOW UP?!?! |

keep the fire burn visual effect when armor is low, but dnt take the burn damage. when drop ships reach 0 armor, they should get 1 second more of flight, and then just start crashing to the ground and explode on impact with anything they hit. |

If anything CCP should do the opposite and make it more common.
Vehicles in Dust are unlike most other FPS games, and not in a good way. You cannot "damage" a vehicle in Dust, only destroy it. By that I mean, you can bring a vehicle down to very low hit points and he can still move and fire and do everything else that he normally does without any penalty. You can't immobilise a tank by taking out his engine or tracks, you can't neuter a tank by destroying his turret or main gun. You can't even blow off one of the little turrets.
So If I fail to kill a tank, he can just roll round a corner, switch on his repper and come back in a minute back to 7000hp like nothing happened. It's ridiculous.
TL;DR - Take your scolding.

Please let this be a troll. Perhaps keep the fire as an effect, in order for it to be visually appealing, but make it stop causing damage. EVE does this once ships take enough structure damage. But seeing your dropship in flames is still a good "time to get out of dodge" indicator. A good "Time to get out of dodge" would be a siren or red lights flashing. Have only fire as an effect would be silly.

Only remove fire damage if the dropship will just outright explode instead. Dropship users seem to get a pretty epic free pass, where they can all bail before the dropship hits the ground. It's kinda unfair. |

I will accept any change (or semi-change) CCP decides to make on this "armour burn" complaint. But personally, I like the component as it currently is. Also, GOOD Dropship drivers don't really get a free pass with the chance to bail out--we feel we screwed up when we can't get our people to bail out at the wrong time and they splatt on the ground or die the vehicle. And also, there IS an alarm siren that sounds when the armor burn and control failure is immenent---but your home audio set-up determines how well you can hear it.
It's great to have an FPS that uses MATH to allow you to CALCULATE your defense against attackers by COUNTING hp and KNOWING the %'s and repper cycle rates.
But I also think there is value in some hazards you CAN'T calculate the exact result of, where when "a fire in your cabin" starts, you CAN'T figure how many hp or seconds you have left, and you have to RISK deciding to drive the vehicle further or park or ditch.
SOME of us drivers run into the "armour burn" regularly, and we recognize the risk it represents. Sometimes we're able to park it FAST and run the right repper. Sometimes we have a great gunner who hops out before you've even parked and starts "putting out the fire" with his hand-repper---some gunners really know what COOP means, and kick-arse! Sometimes we suceeed and high-five... sometimes we risk it for too long and lose the vehicle. We suck it up and get resourceful and enjoy failing sometimes.
I don't mind palyers getting micro-demanding and rubbing the genie lamp a LITTLE to make it easier for us to survive without having to try harder. I just would hate for us to slowly delete ALL the difficulty out of Dust by removing things like the armour-burn "unpredictables". |
