...at least for dropships, but honestly all vehicles.
I was flying my Python today and took quite a bit of damage from what I believe were proto swarms and some forge gun, leaving me with arout 150-200 of my 1000 armour left. So as I'm booking it out of there the fire alarm starts going off and I steadily begin to lose health, and being unable to either find a supply depot or recall my vehicle, I'm stuck behind my red line watching my 600k brick fall helplessly from the sky.
This is ridiculous for two reasons: It favors armour vehicles over shield and negates our last defense points.
Armour vehicles rarely have this problem, granted that they can repair their armour, but what can a shield vehicle do about it? The only options are to either carry a repair tool or find a supply depot, but really what kind of an answer is that? Am I supposed escape the AV players whilst on my last leg, land safely without blowing up my ship, all within the 3-5 seconds left of my ship's life? Ludicrous.
And why bother having the last 200hp of my armour if it doesn't even matter? Let our defenses be our defenses, not our detriment, that's what they're there for. Could you imagine if dropsuits used the same mechanic? I can't tell you how many close calls I've had that have left me with 1hp, imagine if I suddenly began to "lose air" or "my life support was damaged." Even in EvE the ships don't suffer damage from low structure health.
TL;DR/Less ranting: Remove the damaging "fire" mechanic for near-dead vehicles. It's unfair to shield vehicles and negates our hp. |

Pocket Rocket Girl wrote:I think it might be a hey GTFO now. I'm sure people will complain if the ship just explodes with out giving a chance to bail out. being a proto AV and a lav/DP pilot (scary i know ). I have been on both ends of the love spectrum. As a pilot i'm glad that i get time to jump out of my vehicle and make a attempt to repair it, as a AV user i just want to see the vehicle burn . .
I'm not asking to remove the falling mechanic, just that if I have armour left, even 1 hp, I should be able to fly away and not fear blowing up from the stupid fire thing.
However, I do feel your plight for kills, which I have thought about as well. What about a third, unseen ehp bar for vehicle destruction? After all the hp has been depleted, the vehicle becomes immobile (dropships fall, wheeled/tracked vehicles begin to smolder), allowing the pilot to escape, unless so much damage has been done to deplete the unseen ehp, which would cause the vehicle to instantly explode.
Example: Dropship has 1000 shield and 500 armour, but 500 "structure" we'll call it. If you do 1500-1999, the ship is beyond repair and immobile, allowing the pilot to escape; the structure will eventually deplete destroying the ship. But if you do +2000, the ship will instantly explode. |

Mobius Kaethis wrote:I disagree with this for the following reasons.
1) The armor burning is a neat visual effect and we need to keep any of those we have to keep the game from looking bland.
2) Your vehicle burning is destroying your armor but the armor itself is not burning per say. I like to think of this as the vehicle, having taken major damage, is burning from internal fires in major systems caused by the most recent attack. So the engine, fuel, etc... in your vehicle is burning not the armor, though this does reasonably enough damage the armor.
3) You still have 200 hp worth of time to land, whip out a rep tool (which all good vehicle users carry) and rep the thing if you can't find the supply depot which is always near your ground base.
4) And this is one that almost every AV user, and some vehicle users (myself included) will agree too, vehicles should also have the chance of taking catastrophic damage (ie no slow fall from the sky or chance to bail out). If a vehicle suffers 120% of its armor hit points in damage (or reaches -1000hp whichever is less) it should simply explode. Sometimes the damage a vehicle takes is enough that it will simply explode, this will simulate this removing the chance to bail from your burning ship.
1.) Sure, keep it to look cool, they do it in EvE. Just don't kill my ship if I still have armour left.
2.) I'm all for realism, but let's be real for a second here: this is a game. If I still have some hp left, by all accounts I should escape without getting killed because of "realism." What if this applied to dropsuits? Should I be killed because my life support was damaged or I'm leaking oxygen? Let's let statistics be statistics.
3.) Sure. Let me escape the long arms of the forge gun/ swarms that were attacking me in the first place, get a safe distance and/or safe hiding place, attempt a quick landing in my near death ship without so much as knocking it a little to avoid instant explosions, jump out and start repairing, all within about 3-5 seconds. It's idiculous to assert that as a viable option.
4.) This I agree with (see my above post to Pocket Rocket Girl). If you legitimately destroy my ship, I'll still be upset but at least it's fair. What we have now is just ridiculous. Again, if you're in a tough firefight on the ground and you kill the enemy with only 1 armour left, should you die as well? |

Some things that can improve WP/S and Teamwork would allowing your passengers to repair you. This mechanic reminds me of BF3. It's a nice mechanic in there but one thing you can't do here is having your buddies repair for you.
I wouldn't say "remove" the mechanic but you can definitely seek to improve it. If you're a shield dropsuit user resorting on armor then there's something wrong with that. Armor suits are slower and not as agile. Meaning that escaping a volley of massdrivers (EXPLOSIVES BTW) is much harder. So if a shield dropsuit user gets down to 50-100 armour, they should die unless repaired.
Still agree? Only difference is it's much harder to get to safety and repair a dropship.
I do agree with your second part, but I feel like it could be abused a bit.
Edit: Also, what about forge guns? Shields dropships can't out speed them and are weak to rail weapons, not to mention they do more damage than swarms (which Armour dropships can still out speed, ask White - Lion about that one). |
