In case some may have missed it let me link It
To summarize the post strafe speeds will now be 90% of their running speed.
We'd like to introduce a penalty to shield tanking (most likely increasing the delay on shield recharge when you use shield extenders) but we wanted to buff armor first. We will be watching 1.4 closely and if necessary, add the shield delay in 1.5. - Role skills still need to be updated to better take advantage of armor tanking.
Adjusted Armor Plate attributes - HP bonus of 85/110/135 (Basic/Enhanced/Complex) and speed penalties of 2%/3%/5% (with full skill bonuses this equates to 93.5/121/148.5) * Adjusted Ferroscale Plate attributes - HP bonus of 35/50/75 (with full skill bonuses this equates to 38.5/55/82.5) * Adjusted Reactive Plate attributes - HP bonus of 25/40/60 and speed penalties of 0%/1%/1% (with full skill bonuses this equates to 27.5/44/66)
So in turn this will be a great balance between shield and armour.
Armour players still move slower than shield tanked players but not mind bogglingly slow. Shields will still have the advantage of having armour players take more damage from more guns.
The other two plates are an option now. Instead of being just there.
I've already seen a post about how this is a stealth nerf to laser weapons such as the scrambler rifle and the laser rifle. This just isn't the case.
Caldari will always have an easier time stacking extenders then they would plates. Most peoples fittings can't handle good shield mods and armour mods at the same time anyways. A good shield tanker would use regulators anyways. So in turn
Shield players will be good with shields.
Armour players are now comparable as well.
This is a stealth nerf to weapons like the mass driver though. More armour to chew through now. (Not that it will be any harder because they do so much to armour anyways.)
If all goes right so far from what i've seen announced for 1.4 I'm gonna love it, and it will revive this game for a lot of people.
Tankers you got 1.5.
On a side note, good job Wolfman, and everybody at CCP for that matter. we see your hard work, and this is a huge leap in the right direction. Keep it up. |

Too bad I put no points in armor plates because they sucked so hard.
It's literally impossible to plan a build.
This game falls so short of EVE in terms of customization and meaning it's completely laughable. |

To all the shield people complaining, you're still faster, any half decent armour build will have a 10% + movement penalty because of the amount of armour.
Your still more resistant to explosives.
It's now that it is balanced. |

So don't plan a build. Build what you want now, and spec into something else you want that comes later.
If you want to have the new items when they come out, don't build at all and wait.
I had no issues dumping my points into armor tanking, knowing one day they will balance it. Just like i had no issues dumping my points into HMG and having them nerfed into shotgun range.
You will always have the ability to accrue more SP. Make a decision then live with whatever consequences that result from it.

I still dont think there is enough diversity with the plates to make a strategic enough of a decision to use one over the other.
My thoughts are - Basic should stay as they have it listed, that is fine. Its just vanilla armor. Ferro should have the same EHP stats as basic but cost more in PG/CPU. Its an advanced form of armor so I think the penalty should be in trying to fit it and not that it has low EHP figures. Reactive should have a slight buff to EHP and slightly better regen stats
There needs to be good reason to use one over the other - Basic - Lower PG/CPU costs - Ferro - Less movement speed penalty but pay for it in PG/CPU - Reactive - Trade the speed penalty for armor regen |

Perhaps SP might be refunded in certain skills depending on what they change in the Vehicle/AV patch in 1.5, but nothing like that will happen in 1.4.
There would be no reason for it. Just aiming being fixed and this lovely armor balance. |

If only the game had any form of meaning or persistence that actually mattered to anyone what so ever, and I wasn't forced to use one or a few highly limited playstyles for months and months on end in order to play another.

I believe that's how it works in EVE (correct me if I'm wrong, i don't play) so I think they built the game with that basis in mind.

I've never once felt limited in EVE. Every skill unlocks so much, you have SO many ships to choose from, so many places to go and things to do. You can just mine, do industry, explore, work with planets, kill mobs, kill bigger mobs, gank noobs, get ganked like a noob, haul freight, scam or be scammed, you actually have a physical place within the universe you're playing in, you aren't forced to grind for your SP, most SP you "spend" directly benefits you.....
These games are nothing alike.
I don't mean to hijack this thread, and I don't really feel like talking about this anyways.

Well I don't play this too much these days, dreadfully boring. Mining in EVE is almost more exciting than this game has been these past couple months....red line or be red lined....DUST 514....your choices matter.... |

It's not like they just introduced armor tanking... being able to build a suit with high DPS and also a decent tank with armor is exactly why I went Gallente Assault. As a player that is skilled in the art of FPS gunplay, I trust in my ability to efficiently kill opponents and stacking complex damage mods is playing to my strength. This also means that I'm limited to basic plates for the most part, so I'm not getting the best of both worlds. I'm getting the best of one and a bit of the other. My goal is to kill the enemy quickly and move on to the next, not to out HP the enemy while we both dance circles around each other.
Armor tanking has inherent weaknesses (movement penalties, complex repper module required for a single-digit regeneration rate), so the balance is in the ability to use damage mods. |

reduced armor speed penalty is going to just make it a slightly faster game but the *true* effect is going to be an overall decrease in TTK due to increased usage of damage mods (when shield buffer penalties come out) and a BUFF to mass drivers / grenade spam due to more widespread reliance on armor.
I love that the suggested penalty to shield extenders puts the caldari assault's current bonuses in direct conflict with one another. roflmao
