I'd like to point out that games with 'clans' like Warcraft 3 DO have alliances - just because the game doesn't support it doesn't mean people don't do it.
Clan, corp, league, faction, guild - as long as it's player runned and maintained it's all the same and words can replace each other easily. |

Top men as an alliance functions very much as you guys are describing clans, there is no significant distance between our corps.Every fight involving top men corporations is just assumed to be an alliance thing as that's our mindset.
Great game everyone, hopefully we'll get a chance to face off against you again soon. |

I can understand the mindset but definition of ringer still holds. Because you do agree that Deep Space and Seven are separate cops, correct? And if they are separate, then that means one corp rings for another.
But if you guys dont feel separate from each other.....why not merge into one corp? |

Why not take all 50 US states and merge them? I mean, when the United States deploys troops, it's not like we specify "Well, these are our Arkansas troops, and these are our New York troops." |

What? That's such a fail example. US states aren't "allied" with each other. I mean, unless you feel that NY and California has the same relationship as US and UK during WWII.
When a country declares war on us, they don't declare war on NYS, they declare war on USA. We didn't declare war or challenged Top Men. We challenged Seven to a match that had nothing to do with PC districts.
But I'm not going to continue this further because I see where this is going. You guys are disputing the factual definition of ringers as far as fps gaming is concerned......and at the same time, I didn't even care that you guys used them. I just asked if you guys were going to use them so then I know that it is ok for us to use them if we were short (which we were). |

I don't think you can "declare war" on a single corp of our alliance either. What EVE calls a "coalition" is more close to what you're thinking of as say... allied countries in this analogy. EoN and LoI were at war, not two corps within them.
I'm not disputing the "factual definition" of ringers in FPS gaming, I'm saying you're applying the definition incorrectly. |

Note that in New Eden, you cannot declare war on a corporation that is part of an alliance. If a corp is part of an alliance, you have to declare war on the alliance.

Now, I understand what's going on..you guys are Eve players.
In fps gaming, if we challenged Seven to a battle....and Deep Space players show up, then Deep Space players are ringing. Fightclub is just set for friendly skirmishes/battles. FCP isn't for conquering districts.
If we declared war on Seven/Top Men, then we would be fighting on your districts outside of fightclub. Send a pm or ask any fps gamer if I am applying the term, ringer, "incorrectly". |

Im so ******* confused but I think the term/word that some are confusing in the thread is..
"smurf or smurfing A (usually) experienced gamer/team posing as a newbie under an alternate name/corp. I think I'm going to smurf and **** some n00bs."
For example going to a match expecting seven and getting a vetted corp in its place... I think ringers could still fall in the same line as smurfing. ..
Example: We go into a match against GAC and there are 12 Si and 4 GAC, in the end did we play Si or GAC....
Ringers would no longer apply if we go into a match against GAC and there are 16 Si... imo this would be considered "smurfing" you go in to battle expecting one team and get another team that is on a whole other skill lvl...

Personally i believe the entire debate over "ringers" is far over-drawn. Allies help allies, no matter what. (at least ours do). Call it what you will, whatever you'd like is fine. |

Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean that really got out of hand fast! Brian Fantana: It jumped up a notch. Ron Burgundy: It did, didn't it? Brick Tamland: Yea, I stabbed a man in the heart. Ron Burgundy: I saw that! Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident? Brick Tamland: Yea, there were horses and a man on fire and I killed a guy with a trident. Ron Burgundy: Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safe house or a relative close by because you're probably wanted for murder.
To be clear about Se\7eN's stance, we don't give a ****. I think it will be more beneficial for everyone, though, if PFC matches were 16 vs. 16. So, fill 'em up, people.
And, Bolsh, thanks for the gg. It was honestly one of our poorer games as of late. With me being responsible for putting everything together--and then me losing power right before the start--we were running around without clear purpose for a little bit. I think we could have made a better game of it without that horrible start. Let's be clear, we probably wouldn't have won, but it would have been a better fight.
I do feel like Se\7eN is some joint being passed around at the EoN BBQ. Puff, puff, give! But keep the battles coming; we won't back down from anyone and will continue to fight, no matter how bad the battle goes.

Exactly....from the start, I said that I didn't care. And I think that by my using the word, "ringer" may have been interpreted as if I was degrading Top Men.
I really only continued the conversation just to enlighten those that didn't know what a ringer is. Because someone from Top Men in this thread said, "ok, this is a good discussion to determine what a ringer truly is". When I find the quote, I'll post it here. And that has really been my whole point.
Edit: Here's the quote and this is why I actually kept the conversation going because it seemed like some in the thread wasn't sure what a ringer is.
kiarbanor wrote:No, I don't give two craps, either. But I think this is a good conversation for everyone on PFC to read. I think a lot of people have a different thing in mind when they hear "ringers." I think back to The Simpsons' episode where Burns hires all those MLB All-Stars to play in his company softball game.

I honestly never realized EoN had this many corps, it's been fun to meet them all. ;D |
